  • We played this in 7th grade, it was and still is my favorite piece I've ever played

  • @greendub1000 actually, my band teacher does this by grade. If there is a lot of difference between two grades, than the higher grade gets a better position. I'm actually 2nd now. The other second chair sorta dropped band and went to art.

  • Tuba for the win!

  • @NinjaRawr55 All that bothers me is the repeating eighth notes, trust me my fingers can move way faster on piano then my tounge:p ...i guess playing piano for seven years makes ur fingers pretty quick...

  • this song has a sick timp. part. just saying

  • played this a few years ago, Euphonium piece, love the song!

  • Wow. It seems like everybody is third chair. Including me.:( I definetly deserve second.

  • @GoldenFalchion Getting a certain part isn't about "Deserving it," your band director gives parts on what grade your in. it's mainly about age. just ask me. when i was a freshmen, i always asked for a higher part, but the senior and junior of my section, (French horn) always said no, you suck too much. they said when i was a senior i would understand. i did, and gave the younger people smaller parts. it's only fair.

  • I'm playing this as a freshman in HS. I think that I need a lot of improvement.

  • I performed this with our community band. I have since left the band, due to moving across the state. I miss the high caliber performances and the great music I performed with them. I am hoping to soon get into another community band of the same caliber as the one I had to leave.

This piece is so beautiful. It makes me cry to hear it and remember how much I miss my friends in band. As a 2nd trombonist, I had a lot of fun with this piece.

  • Playin the srconds trumpet solo :)),

  • Thanks so much for posting! i love playing this song on my alto and listening really helps identify the tempo changes(= plus its such a beautiful song<3

  • were playing this in my high school band and it is my personal favorite even though i play the third part, im working my way up

  • so awesome the articulation ya, soo awesome!!!

  • Sometimes I really hate the strict seniority system at my school. (I'm stuck with 3rd Trumpet.) And now that I know what the trumpet solo is supposed to sound like... GRR!

All angst aside though, it's a great piece.

  • I will never forget this song. So I'm a 9th grader. I've been in band for the last three years of middle school, and we were a pretty advanced band. I was in third chair for the longest time, so I didn't suck. But this year I only did marching band but not the class band.. And So my teacher said learn this and another song and audition it for me, your in and back in first row. So I learned this song in THREE DAYS. To audition tomorrow. Im nervous ! <3 love this song, but it's a lot to learn

  • i play french horn and i dont think ill ever play it this fast!! too much pressure for a freshie in high school who's only been playing for 1 1/2 years!

  • Comment removed

  • @Elllo97 im a horn :p this is my first year, and only been playing for 3 months. I'm a sophomore in high school , and switched from trumpet . got moved to 3rd chair last week , (from 4th chair ) and i can actually play it faster than this

  • Best song i've played!!!!!

  • wow. haha my bands gunna play it this year. im first chair clarinet, and since we have no oboe, guess who gets not only the clarinet solo but the oboe one too? me :/ oh well sounds cool

  • Im in band at Manatee high school and It's humbling to go to the same school and be in the same music program Mr. Sheldon was in. He just wrote us an amazing new piece called resurgences for our centennial. He has also written another one for us a while back called Manatee Lyric Overture it is also very pretty

  • Im the only first part trumpet this year in my group wish me luck! =)

  • dude, the trumpet solo sounds like the slow part in Rhapsodic Celebration! awesomeeee. (:

  • My band performed this and Salvation Is Created (can't remember the name of the march we performed) last year and were one of two bands that got straight I's that day!

  • i just played that song yesterday at hill wood high school (flute part)

    Double Reeds Unite!

  • i love this song and its an honor as a member of the Anchor Bay High Symphonic Band member to perfom this song it is a very beautiful song i absolutly love it , i thank all of the members of the original band that perfomed this song you perfomed this song fantasitically i cant give enough praise to you all

  • @dumbass101ify and our bands Marching band , Symphonic band , Cadet band , Wind ensemble , and Jazz band have all gotten 1's in our competitions for 12 years running and we play in the class A , AA , divisions like i said previously its an honor to perform this piece of music

Our middle school band played this last year at ISSMA and we got 2nd place.

    This song NEVER gets old.

  • hey look guys all im gona say is that clarnet is the beats and thats it

  • I PLAYED THE TRUMPET SOLO IN 8TH GRADE!!!!! :D I sounded amazing on this solo :)

  • wow, i am so glad i don't have the trumpet solo for this song in my band this year. we have a lot to do if we want to sound anywhere near as good as this

  • Trumpet Solo FTW :3

  • Playing this piece next school year. I play timpani. Any advice?

  • @DrummerJakeTV yeah i played the timpani part and after the slow section were its just you and the snare drum you are basiclly setting up the tempo so make sure to communicate with the director and ESPECIALLY communicate with the snare drum player

  • I enjoyed playing this song... It is a great peice, written by a great man/composer. Though, I do have to say after I got the grasp on Metroplex by Robert Sheldon, I like that one much more. It shows the variety of styles a band can play, and also shows off the versatility of the Saxophone. I got the Alto solo, and transposed the English Horn solo as well because we didn't have one. :p That might've been what did it for me, but none the less I think it's all and all a better peice.

  • this piece was amazing when our band played it. but we had to change the trumpet solo to a french horn solo but it still sounds amazing.

  • just played this at band camp in kingsville today, amazing piece

  • Thats like the Music in Sims :D

  • im my 7&8th grade band were playing this and since we dont have an oboe i have the oboe solo and as from what my band director says its awsome oh and i play clarinet

  • OMG we played this song for UIL and we KICKED DRISCOLL'S BUTT!!!!!!!!! XD my best bud had the oboe solo at m. 49!

  • were playing this for our spring concert

    cant wait

  • My middle school played this piece . c:

    We got ones . <3 c:

  • I recently performed this piece in concert. Our local community band enjoyed this work. Sometimes, it's not the most difficult pieces that show excellent musicianship. The piece was pure fun and sheer joy to practice and perform. As a trombonist, I love the rhythms we had. I also enjoy the lush melodies and harmonies. This will soon become a classic in music literature.

  • wish our trumpets could play nearly as well, but our flutes got it good

  • @Msmegavivi hope you fun with the song it's really fun

  • We played this for our High School band my senior year of high school and that solo trumpet in the Lento Expressivo section always gives me chills. Truly an extraordinary piece though a little tough on us flutes with all those 16th and 32nd notes!

  • im in middle school and were playing this for uil.

  • Just got a 1 on this peice with my band today at uil

  • Haha! I played this at the Region 11 Band! I was in the second band and I was first chair! I love this piece and it's kinda funny because it was just me (I'm currently a sophmore at South San) and two seniors that made it to Region! :D I played this with my Bass Clarinet that I cherish so much.....This reminded me of orchestra back in middle school.. ;D

  • Loved the song when I played it last year I play bass clarinet and even though there really wasn't to much for me I love the bass part for the song

  • @poetsir wow cool! i just got the music piece for this and i also play bass clarinet!

  • My band is currently playing this song . I'm a trumpeter and im currently practicing the solo . How do I improve the solo because I always mispitch the high G .

  • @fadrul hahaaa im having the same prolem xD

  • we are playing this song in band and i play the soprano sax for the solo instead of thee oboe at m 49:) it sounds amazing!

  • Amazing job! I am playing this for my spring concert on trumpet. :)

  • Oh my ! A nice aong . Likeit :D

Punggol Band is playing this for SYF !

Hope will get what we want to achieve !!!!

Trumpet player here :D Anyone ? HAHAH !

  • I'm playing this for our May concert and I'm in Advanced band and I play the flute it looks reallllllly hard! I hope that I'm good enough to play it!!! It's a beautiful piece, it reminds me of actual dancing. I m a dancer and this makes me think of a jazzy-lyrical/contemp. type of dance.

  • @Funnybunny2000X : I am a flute player as well playing this song and it is easy to grasp because once you learn one part it shows up many more times.

  • awesome job! tuning and articulations is perfect especially where we lacked lol

and i pay the clarinet solo better ;)

    Jesse Compean

  • @sxygi The reason why the tuning and articulations are perfect is because this is the original recording. Not a recording of my band.

  • @sxygi i play it better

  • Go oboes :D

  • Thank you so much for posting this! We're playing this for our District Festival and I have the oboe solo at m. 49. This really helped me grasp the rythm a lot better! Thank you so much!

  • @ChidoriAlchemist No Problem! Good luck with that oboe solo! I'm a trumpet player and I wish I had the trumpet solo, but as always it went to my idiot section leader.

  • This is amazing! I hate when i hear bands playing this sooo slow! The speed is what gives it its fun! I play the saxophone and had a great time playing this for competition! (Although we ended up not going because of snow) But this is just an amazing song! The beginning melody that the saxophones play immediently opens the song with fun! :D Great song!

  • @FrenchFreak0 This piece was composed for fast tempo. It should be played at at least 140bpm (Allegro) and 180bpm (Presto) at most. Any slower would defeat the purpose of the song. I listened to a recording that was played at about 108bpm (Andante) all the way through and it just sounded ridiculous.

  • I love the melody the flutes and clarinets play at 0:34-0:55.

  • i was part of the ensemble that premiered this piece in 2008

  • I love this song. The middle section is so nice >< I play the oboe, and the oboe solo is my favourite part of all!

  • My schools honor band is playing this and i play all the auxlilary

  • our symphonic band is playing this as our closure, and i absolutely love this song, i think i sing it in my sleep!

  • our symphonic band is playing this as our closure, and i absolutely love this song, i think i sing it in my sleep!

  • I like the sound. Love how the recording is in stereo, too. Our directors would have used a portable tape recorder to record the sound. :)

  • @pcwalker When I was in junior high, our district's IT guy would always record the songs onto a computer and post them on our school's website. The only downside is that it always picked up background noise from the audience.

  • The staccato parts remind me of a TV news theme, where they use that kind of rhythm to simulate Morse code.

  • @vwestlife Yes, some parts of this piece do have some resemblance to TV news themes.
