@ afewtube...I would care to cross 3000 miles of the Atlantic ocean for the right reason in any type of ship, I would most definitely leave any land for being persecuted for my beliefs, What is savage about america?the people?you mean the native americans that lived there?so you're calling them savages? Obviously not regarding them as equals at all..and after leaving England for religious freedom reasons..the puritans didn't allow any religion besides christian protestant..irony?
An ancestor of mine, Abraham Shaw I believe was a Puritan kicked out by King Charles I in 1636. Virtually everyone in North American with the surname Shaw is in some way descended from him.
william da foe was a puritan;john milton too ,brave ,faithful to christ and no fear whatsoever these are puritans no wonder they are the founding fathers of america.im a christian but man they were great people.
@afewtube You have a lie typed out here the puritans did not consider the native Americans as equals in any way they were to be converted or killed they had no right to their own faith or beliefs
@afewtube Yeah, no, the Puritans didn't respect the Native Americans. They regarded their shamanistic beliefs as being equal to the devil. And I'm pretty sure if anyone here was being badly persecuted, they would leave.
@afewtube Idiot. The Puritans were not forced to leave, nor persecuted because of their religious beliefs. On the contrary in fact. Puritans left for America to prosecute. They were resentful & unhappy at the Church of England's (somewhat tolerant) approach to other religious practises. They left for America simply to persecute others. Catholics, Jews & others of course left for America to escape these same Puritan bastards they found operating in America. Get your facts right you dumb idiot!
@afewtube Big fucking deal, I made a 'typo' you fucking imbecile! Got anything factual to back up the bullshit & lies you had brainwashed into your stupid fucking thick head? For a start, the term 'Puritan' meant to be purified of the Roman Catholic church or anything tainted by the Church. (Anything associated with the term Church is in connection with the Catholic faith as Protestants are merely heathens, Protestant meaning Protesting Catholic).
@afewtube When these sick Puritan bastards arrived in America. They had one aim. To make sure that this new land would be intolerant against any other form of religious practice, except that which they themselves taught. You quoted the the Puritans had to leave their native homeland because they were PERSECUTED? Are you simply fucking trolling? Because surely no one could be that fucking dumb.
@tomrichardson83 Much of Europe has neither nationalism nor religion. Much of it does have socialism. Europe is pretty, but those are vestiges of ages past. European population is declining faster than any other population in the world. At this rate, it will be replaced by outsiders, inevitably. Socialism has given Europe economic hardship, a spiritual vacuum, and an unmotivated to live people. Stricter adherence to religion and to the community would deflect future catastrophe.
@tomrichardson83 Religion did spark wars, and it still does today (muslim "extremism" or really all of moderate Islam). Land dispute, personal quarrels between rulers, ideology (Nazism, imperialism), wealth, or any advantage meant to be made for the state sparked wars as well. Differences and boldness spark wars, whether it is religion or not. In the end, an all secular society is weaker than a united religious one. Religion gives people a purpose and is a source of unity and identity.
@tom Actually, one may argue that no religion creates a sort of spiritual/moral vacuum. The type of vacuum that we see in Europe today. Compared to the bloated-on-welfare communities of those in Europe to those of small New England communities today, I would take the latter any day. I am not religious, but I would like to be. Most people are born with a natural belief in God and a higher power. Some are not, and I believe I am not. I do see great value in religion however in all forms of life.
@tomrichardson83 - incase you're wondering if the puritans were natural heathens like yourself, think again...these people were santified and lived to the glory of the God that saved and knew them well
If you are watching this piece of crap movie for any other reason besides being forced to by a teacher/professor, congratulations you officially have no life.
@craigyoung12 - so could you explain to what life is, i'd like to know....is life to live like a swine in filth and mire and glory in your hedonistic vileness....to be unclean and take great pleasure in it
And people from "the religion of peace" are murdering thousands of Christians in the Sudan today. Oh yeah...and Napoleon and the Catholic church had thousands of Protestant Calvinists murdered during the French Revolution. Yep- Puritans, Catholics and Atheists are all messed up! Think of that! Humans who make dumb mistakes!
well dotn forget the jewish lobby is working united with the catholic church to destroy protestant christianity-the war of the reformation never ended in rome-they have a new idea-you want to know the full idea let me know

hahaha... 1950's propaganda is wonderful no? buncha BS, they didn't know greek or latin. puritans were extremely anti-catholic, and latin was/is the language of the "papists". how many memorable puritan text were written in a language other than english?
you missed the entire point of my statement didn't you? if i had made an anti-prod comment you would have jumped on me wouldn't you have? people get so upset when they are attacked, and then they wonder why others get upset at them for being a-holes. i didn't attack the puritans, i stated a simple fact.
The Germanic Church was mostly conquered by the Catholic Church as retaliation to the Germanics destroying the Roman infantry. English a Germanic language survived in spite of Latin, and helped preserve their heritage. But Latin was the of the system of the conquerors, they had no delusions about Latin and its teachings from its first university founded in Balonia Italy, as the comment when these words conveyed the "Baloney" of that Latin based culture. Odin is God. Aristotleism is baloney.
Interesting slice of seventeenth-century puritan life. Weird to think of these pioneers, at least the male ones, knowing Latin and Greek. Why on earth did anyone post this on YouTube?

Ok, here's Wiki on the Puritans:
'The Puritan spirit in the United States
Late 19th century view, the Puritan stereotype in a sculpture by Augustus Saint-Gaudens.
Alexis de Tocqueville suggested in Democracy in America that Puritanism was the very thing that provided a firm foundation for American democracy.'

Quote: 'What is savage about america?'
I was referring to the 1600s.
Surely that was obvious.
Surely you would correlate the arrival of the Puritans with the 1600s.
Quote: the puritans didn't allow any religion besides christian protestant..irony?'
Evidence please, of the Puritans banning Roman Catholicism for example.

Like them or not, nobody on Youtube could do what the Puritans did.
Firstly, no-one here would care or dare to cross 3000 miles of Atlantic ocean in small ships.
Nobody here would leave their native homeland because they were persecuted for their beliefs.
Nobody here could face the challenge of what was a pretty savage and inhospitable land - America.
The Puritans respected native Americans, and regarded them as equals.
I don't see much respect for other races here on Youtube.

@angels77100 Quote: 'On the contrary in fact. Puritans left for America to prosecute'
Firstly, retard, it's persecute, not prosecute.
Try learning English before you write about the English Puritans.
So, according to you the Puritans said to themselves: "Now, where do we go to find someone to persecute?
Do you have any evidence that this was their attitude?
If they wanted to persecute they would have chosen a more populated country than America, somewhere that had more people.
Idiot.
