  • great song.

  • this is music

  • anybody pick up the line from Raggle Taggle Gypsy?

  • @AvariGirl they're not so subtle with it are they xD

  • I love these songs, but I can't help but notice that for the album, they tried to reduce the singer's accent... I don't know about anyone else, but I honestly liked his accent. It really adds to the sound.

  • i always play along on guitar

  • longboard girls ♥

  • This song references the Granite Mountain Mine Disaster in Butte Montana. I think the drummer is from Montana.

  • yo, they just ripped "Shove" by L7 anybody caught this yet?

  • @EmAreDee - dont be a dick, player hater! Love this tune, there's a super celtic strain too it, reminds me heaps of the Waterboys. Amazing!

  • This song was suggested to me in google.com... so funny.

  • Love it:)

  • Carving the mountains :)

  • @nndmiletic exact!!

  • I don't understand why people are so obsessed with getting thumbs up on a youtube video. If that is where you get your sense of accomplishment in life, then you are doing something wrong. And if for whatever reason that is how you feel accomplished, then you might as well do it with something original, not "# of people(dislikes) must be _____".

  • @chubby987 thumbs up ;p

  • WHY HAS THIS ONLY GOT 298,475 VIEWS!!!!!!

  • @jimi1180 how did a car explode exactly?

  • @videomaekrdude My friends car was leaking oil down onto a pan that was very hot. This little pan thing, was located just in front of the passenger side. At a red light, the car shut down, and we started it back up, then my buddy revved it for a quick second and a giant flame shot out on the passenger side. It was a very large flame haha. So yeah, the car didn't actually explode, it was just scary as hell, so we jumped out of the car and I almost got hit by an oncoming car. haha

  • @videomaekrdude

    how do you think..

  • If I were American, would be proud of this song, i love it

  • this song is awesome. im more of a rock person, but this song if really good folk, its so poetic and heartfelt. i dont know what hes talking about, but its realllly good. if someone wants to tell me what its about, tell me

  • this song really should be in every longboarding video :)

  • like if you take shits with the door open

  • I love thiiiis !!

  • 17 people suck at longboarding.

  • @ingiiiiiii So what, If I liked the video, does it makes me a longboarder? Your argument is invalid.

  • @cyckarz that wasnt an argument, i just tried to write a comment with a Carving the mountains reference, but not the usual 'thumbs up if *** brought you here'.

so yeah, youre a fucking genius to troll that simple motherfucking comment.

  • @ingiiiiiii So saying that people who disliked suck at longboarding is just a reference? Yeah right, and what if they never longboarded? If you wrote that under longboarding video then yeah, it will be ok, but i guess that some percentage of the people watching this are fans of the decembrists and never saw "Carving The Mountains".

  • @cyckarz You really did not get my point, did you...

  • @ingiiiiiii I suck at longboarding but I still love the The Decemberists.

  • Comment removed

  • @residrunkalien i dont give a single fuck

  • Time to go longboarding.

  • raggle taggle gypsy breakdown made me smile. I love the decemberists.

  • This album is awesome. Decemberists really were in good shape while recording.

By the way, how come so many comments on all these Decemberists videos are just blatantly snobbish thumb-whoring?

  • raggle taggle gypsy !

  • Why do people argue over what brought people to the video. I havn't seen a single comment about the MUSIC. Isn' that why we are hear in the first place.

  • @EmAreDee1 You can't discover music without a third party, wtf? It's not like you were born listening to the Decemberists.

  • Like if you are a Decemberists fan and you didn't need a third-party to show you this song.

  • @EmAreDee1 Like if you now like the Decemberists regardless how you found them!

  • @Prufrock186 touché

  • Like if the discovery tv got you here :D

  • Comment removed

  • so irish.

  • genius!!! country mixed with irish folk!!! raggle-taggle gypsy-o!!! (i can't be more enthousiast in this reaction)

  • @MusiLinnniejj I just realized why that melody sounded so familiar...haha! Thanks for pointing that out.

  • @BenGabbay XD yourwelcomeee lol

  • Comment removed

  • Stupid shit comments here about how they were referred from other places. Like if you knew the Decemberists BEFORE they got overused in series and commercials.

  • @Spritscake most of them are talking about getting directed here from an indempendent film, so...

  • @Spritscake neither series, or commercials. if you'd know what video brought us here, then you wouldn't be so agressic

  • @Parteque Kay, I'll give you that I don't know what got you here. Fair enough if I misunderstood, for which I sincerely apologize :) I strongly dislike it when people insult good music by saying how they were brought here by some terrible popular movie or commercial, but I might've been too quick to judge here.

  • @Spritscake regarding, that you are a nice person, i'll give you the link:D

    /watch?v=LLvW64MuvO4

    enjoy

  • Something about this song....I love it so much.

  • Gracias por el fin de semana!!!!!

  • these guys are bad ass!!!

  • Anyone knows the name of the tune at 2:00? It appears to be some kind of folk tune.

  • @MrPoombaa Raggle Taggle Gypsy-O

  • @MrPoombaa Raggle taggle gypsy-o

  • @MrPoombaa Yeah its an Irish Song called Raggle Taggle Gypsy-O

  • @MrPoombaa I'm pretty sure that's just the bridge. The Decemberists are, among other things, a folk band, so it makes sense that it sounds like a folk tune.

  • @hinataXD12

Nice, I was asking because I know another song from an italian folk band which is based upon the same tune, I've just uploaded a video, check it out if you'd like :)

  • @MrPoombaa Hey! I didn't know this bridge was used before, I love it. Thanks for the info :)

  • Decembrists brought me here, cause you know, I have no fucking clue what the fuck is the long boarding video and what's carving in the mountains is.

  • @Landerovitch2 I took the long road to get here. Started googling a doco on Columbia called "la sierra" then got distracted with the longboarding chicks in a vid that had the same title, then thought the song was pretty cool. And that, I believe, is what the internet was invented for - a long chain of procrastination and discovering cool shit in the process

  • @JiminyKracker great. =)

  • @JiminyKracker thats how i found this song too. nothing wrong with that

  • @JiminyKracker the longboarding chicks video is "carving the mountains," so not the same name

  • @CommanderSwedePlays there's multiple names of the same clip

  • The Decemberists brought me here.

    Fools.

  • Who cares who brought you here. The Decemberists are awesome!

  • i saw them in concert recentally, they opened this song by saying

"and now for our 20th century mining song"

    i loled

  • @unseen370 According to Colin Meloy at this year's Sasquatch Music Festival, the song is about the early mining industry in Butte, Montana. The more you know!

  • Man, ever since I started longboarding my life has been filled with wonderful tunes..not to mention the feeling riding to these is so awesome I could live a life just riding on my board.

  • .com/watch?v=jMJhPsb1ZB0&feature=related

The first 10 seconds of this song it's the same thing.

  • i love this song!

  • Great song that commemorates the 168 souls that died in Butte Montana's Granite Mountain Mine disaster of 1917. The Decemberists did a fantastic job on this one.

  • 227, 666th viewer. Oh yay, 666, after being in a car the exploded on Friday, nearly being electrocuted to death yesterday, and watching the Final Destination movies today, I enjoy a nice quiet evening with the Decemberists on and I get 666 in my viewer number. Fuck me.

  • @jimi1180 could be worse.

    nevermind, no it couldn't.

  • @jimi1180 you still alive?

  • @rblofthescrdhrt

SURLY you mean you're and not you

  • @mrkanker1

actually I meant what I said you pretentious fuck

  • @rblofthescrdhrt

why do you get so angry over a joke?

  • @jimi1180

    Tractor trailer

  • @mrkanker1 ...what? :S

  • @jimi1180

    its a..."Hint"

Oh well, just dont go near any highways...

  • Nice nice nice song! love it!

but to all who talk about Raggle tagle gypsy and uriah heep, must also know this song from early 90s (and its huge massive fandom. hehe)

    /watch?v=UmhWRiBPJAA

    let me have your comments!

cheers to all of you! (having come from carving mountains or not)

  • Actually, this pretty awesome band got me here.

  • You gotta love contemporary swashbuckler music.

  • WTF happened to 4,5, and 6? XD

  • Those damn girls!!

  • The solo at 2:05 is from an old Irish song called raggle tagle gypsy. Enjoyable song by a enjoyable band.

  • @Enda1544 Actually a very old Scottish song to be exact, covered by loads of bands including the Waterboys.

  • this song is amazing, but it's strange because it has to do with the building of the Hoover Dam... "If you ever make it to ten you won't make it again"... Kinda scares me!

  • Me to, long way via custom motorcycles focused blog with emebeded longboard video :-)

  • The longboarding vid got me here! :D

  • anyone else watch the redbull carving the mountain

  • Reminds me of Jethro Tull

  • Carving In the MOUNTAINS brought me here

  • longboard girls in sierra de madrid takes me here ;)

  • They get props for trying to do something different every album.

  • and 4 months later, 9 dislikes..welldone supermario! :P

  • Trop cool merci papa!!

  • i love the decemberists!!! they sings soooo good and the irish style is wonderful...:)

  • I meant heep fags

  • Uriah heap is my queer

  • Am I the only decemberists fan who thinks that their music has gone downhill since the hazards of love? Picaresque, the tain, and hazards were all so original and this is so REM.

  • @EreHIN I agree with you completely. This is a great album, but it's no where near as good as any of their other albums.

  • Lady in Black is great indeed, but listen to it's cover made by Ensiferum. It's a masterpiece!

  • this song is amazing. His voice goes so well with it. this song makes me happy in a sad way

  • i apologize, about 50 of these views are from me

  • Listen to the back music, it's the traditional Celtic song Raggle Taggle Gypsy. No coincidence, they did it on purpose.

  • @donnaabbottserif you sir, are correct...very few really invent music out of thin air. It's somewhat refreshing to read an intelligent comment on the Youtube.....at least more intelligent than "Uriah Heep is a queer"

  • Dude, this song is a direct rehash of Uriah Heep's Lady in black. Youtube will not let me post a link to it in the box here, but it is an AMAZING coincidence. So why bother with this rehashed faux-folk, when you could be rockin' out to the genuine article? Do yourself a favor and type Uriah Heep Lady in Black in the search bar. It is UNDENIABLY the same chords and melody.

  • @xbullettoothx

    I just listened

    It was shit

  • @Skinnyoompalumpa so is this song, but at least Uriah Heep did not recycle shit.

  • @xbullettoothx

    Uriah heep is a queer

  • must replay

  • Dis shit fo Todds.

  • this band deserves more hits they r a great band i saw them in raleigh in the rain and it was great concert

  • his voice is similar to robbie's williams voice

  • Like if the long boarding video got you here :D

  • @jubeeish ha yes same man.

  • carving the mountains

  • im guessing its about war

  • Anyone else think the instrumental section at 2.00 is the exact same as the start of The Waterboys - Raggle Taggle Gypsy? Awesome song and band though!

  • @Trimblator The Raggle Taggle Gypsy isn't actually a song by the Waterboys, they only covered it, as well as many other bands such as the Irish Descendants, Carlos Nunez, Celtic Thunder, etc. etc. The song itself is a Scottish ballad dated back to the 18th century, thusly no one knows who wrote it. But yes, it is the exact melody.

  • @blahGreenDayfreak Thanks for clearing that up! :D

  • @supermarioawsome Sssssssssssss, aaaaaaaaaaah. Sorry dude :(

  • This makes me want to go see them live again

  • wooo.

  • Aguante los redondo'!

  • from IAMBORED to here

  • @Abboman111 yeah exactly >:D the skateboarding thingy video thing?

  • @clowdycloud Ya saw it there, I thought that was a cool video and song and knew someone else would youtube it! :-)

  • The melody of this song sounds very similar to the melody of the traditional Irish song "The RAGGLE TAGGLE gypsy" Check out the similarities by going to the song and forward to 2:00 min.

  • @victorius0xyz that is such a beautiful video!! i have been following juanrayos for the last few months

  • I've been playing this song for 3 days straight...and it still hasn' gotten old :)

  • 2 people didn't get the water out of there socks

  • Hahaha, best ever!

  • two people don't like this song?

    WELL, OKAY THEN.

    fuck them.

  • Holy shit, this is amazing.

  • This song is simply beautiful.

  • god damn good !

  • beautiful... the finale on the notes of raggle taggle gipsy really awesome

  • Seeing 'em live soon! :D

  • Great sound! i do most of my listening from my phone, and far too many videos just don't have enough sound.

  • Omg, I'm sleeping :)

  • Wanted to skim through the album, but realized I couldn't. The songs are too good to be skimmed through.

  • Riff semejante a "El pibe de los astilleros" de Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota...

  • @laberintosrock si es parecido, pero me parece que es un riff muy utilizado en canciones country.

  • Best on the album by far

  • 295 likes and one person who missed :)

  • @littleglonia nope, i love every kind of music my whole family has been that way cheers :D
