@DodgeMan360 It's all about where in the power band those numbers are. It may peak at 500ft/lbs, but it's not producing that much torque for very long. The Ecoboost has a very fat torque curve, which is why it wins most of the tests. I'd still take the V8 though, just because I like the sound and how iconic it is as a truck engine.

The Ford F-150 is up agianst trucks that have almost twice the liters and 2 more pistons, and it gets better mileage. that Ford F-150 has a lot of engineering into it.
my 2006 Ford Ranger has a 3.0L engine and the F-150 has just .5L more than my truck and it can pull about 5,000- 7,000 pounds more than mine. and it gets better mileage than my ranger. holy hell, My next vehicle is going to be a Ford F-150.

Still, not nearly enough in my opinion. 3000 miles is still considered brand new, and the ford truck chassis had put how many miles on it just at the race track? still a big difference. All the stuff I see is good. One thing though, the Ford truck (running gear/chassis) has 12,000+ miles on it. They state that the Dodge and Chev both are practically brand new. Can you say friction? If you've ever had the pleasure of buying a brand new vehicle, you know that it takes a few thousand miles to free up all the running gear. Your fuel economy will actually continue to rise for several months. Break the Dodge and Chev in with equivalent mileage and then run the tests again.

The one thing that stood out for me was I couldn't believe how sucked out it was with a cargo box full of snow after sitting for three weeks in airport parking. I'm not saying my 2010 F-150 5.4 is better in a similar situation, but what I'm saying is I don't think the result of this demonstration is farfetched given my experience.
@pixel288 The Silverado half-ton is not even in the same dimension as the F-150 at this point. They didn't even come close in 2007; fresh sheetmetal and lots of old thinking hiding beneath a pretty paint job and shiny grille does not cut it. Compare the trucks in terms of thier design, engineering and build and material quality, and look beneth the skin. Silverado is on the verg of antiquity compared to the F-150 and there is nothing you can do about it.

In response to the previous two comments, it's a fair comparison because they are in the same class and price range. They put the ecoBoost in their lightest duty full size pickup. And its the most economical engine offered in the F-series.

The Ford F-150 is up agianst trucks that have almost twice the liters and 2 more pistons, and it gets better mileage. that Ford F-150 has a lot of engineering into it.

A side from toyota having a chassis that bends like sheet metal there problematic crankshaft issues have also been well known. Moreover, if you go in an asian country you will see american vehicles and vice versa its just a thing people like things that come from other countries. @CrashJSTest dude, it's still impressive. The heating and cooling test is pretty amazing if you think about it. The tensile strength of the whole engine is compromised when you do that. That's no joke. What about hauling all that timber?
And even if you negate all of this, the fact that this little engine can out gun 5.0L+ V8's with hemi's? Is that not impressive on it's own?

Still, not nearly enough in my opinion. 3000 miles is still considered brand new, and the ford truck chassis had put how many miles on it just at the race track? still a big difference. All the stuff I see is good. One thing though, the Ford truck (running gear/chassis) has 12,000+ miles on it. They state that the Dodge and Chev both are practically brand new. Can you say friction? If you've ever had the pleasure of buying a brand new vehicle, you know that it takes a few thousand miles to free up all the running gear. Your fuel economy will actually continue to rise for several months. Break the Dodge and Chev in with equivalent mileage and then run the tests again.

@pixel288 Yeh, I agree, but the 5.3 Silverado, even when broken in, is not really a great towing vehicle whatsoever. I had a 2008 5.3 from new. The one thing that stood out for me was I couldn't believe how sucked out it was with a cargo box full of snow after sitting for three weeks in airport parking. I'm not saying my 2010 F-150 5.4 is better in a similar situation, but what I'm saying is I don't think the result of this demonstration is farfetched given my experience.

@pixel288 The Silverado half-ton is not even in the same dimension as the F-150 at this point. They didn't even come close in 2007; fresh sheetmetal and lots of old thinking hiding beneath a pretty paint job and shiny grille does not cut it. Compare the trucks in terms of thier design, engineering and build and material quality, and look beneth the skin. Silverado is on the verg of antiquity compared to the F-150 and there is nothing you can do about it.

@pixel288 Let's assume for the sake of argument that this demonstration is nothing but BS. The F-150 is still far and away on a much higher level than the Silverado half-ton. I'm not a hater, but just someone who has owned both trucks and judges a manufacturer by what they offer to thier consumers - and what Ford is offering in thier F-150 is just so far ahead of the Silverado half-ton at this point, dollar-for-dollar, apples-to-apples.

@lariatfx Fair enough. The last Ford I owned was a ratty '86 F150, with the 6 cyl. Good enough for my purposes at the time, but they didn't include the type of work being done here. Currently I own a '01 dakota v6, again plenty good enough for my purposes. If these tests are true to life, then if I ever need something bigger/better, Ford will be the first thing I look at. I appreciate your personal experience with both manufacturers and your viewpoints.
