@jacke40 John Morrison had personality when he changed his name from Johnny Nitro to John Morrison. Morrison has potential to be a main-event star, but WWE wont give him a push.
Kidman was awesome in WCW. Too bad he went to WWE and became roided up to fit in with the WWE style. What's Kidman doing these days? he would be great in TNA's X Divison. AJ Styles/Kidman would be a great match.
Kidman was talented in the ring. His best work being in the late 90s in WCW, and his brief stint in the WWE. Was always my favorite cruiserweight. That being said, he belonged nowhere near the main event picture. Could have been a solid mid-carder, though.
I liked kidman wrestling skill but he's just didn't have the charisma or swagger to pull of being a villian or a good guy for that matter but they would of had a better chance trying to make him a good guy
all this "shoot" bullshit Vince Russo and crew did in WCW, was a fucking disgrace to the business. trying to turn it into "reality TV" ruined this company... plus I can't believe, or maybe I can, that TNA does the same thing.....I'm old school from the 70's and 80's and THIS is NOT wrestling; it's not even entertainment
This might have come off better if Kidman didn't sound like this was the first promo he'd ever done, or if he didn't sound like he was reading off cue cards. I've seen porn stars with better acting skills. BTW, has Kidman finally drawn that first dime, now that we're 11 years out from this angle? I forgot, the guy can't even use the Kidman name anymore since Satan (VKM) owns it. Hahaha.
@TVTraX Yeah, Russo booking for the internet marks was a big mistake. The internet marks think they know what's best, but theirs is just one opinion, and it's a minority one.Even if they booked this right, no friggin way Kidman is going to come off in Hulk's league.Kidman's a 5'8" 145 lb. stringy haired cruiserweight wrestling in a wifebeater and denim shorts. The lack of respect shown to Hogan with this smark bullshit. Hogan drew gazillions over 20 years. Kidman never did shit in the business.
I think the main reason that the Kidman push failed is that it pretty much came out of nowhere. For years, he was a jobber to lower-midcarder, then suddenly a main eventer?
@josephD32 I think the reason the Kidman pushed failed was in the way it was booked. Sure Kidman won a few matches with Hogan but they had Hogan beat the crap out of him throughout most of the matches, then Kidman pulls a lucky move on him and gets the pin. They booked him to look weak and the fans not surprisingly crapped on the push.
The only good thing about this feud was the fact that it energized Hulk Hogan. Hogan powerbombed Bischoff on a table at Slamboree 2000 to a roaring ovation!
@MrWrestlingGuy2010 This was a result of the WWE fans for years crying about guys like Kidman not being used properly or getting his push.....and when they did, it failed....Then look at kidman in the WWE, they used him even less! Most the young WCW talent was supposivly miss-used, once Vince bought it brought them in, was miss-used worse than ever witht he exception of Rey Mysterio
Contrary to popular belief, I actually enjoyed WCW 2000 very much. There were some kinks that needed to be ironed out, but if they had more time I do believe they could have made it work. Too bad the merger put them out of business, or else they were still garnering 3's in the nielsen ratings, which is what the WWE gets today (however viewership is higher these days in regards to ratings points).
say what you will about kidman on the mic but anyone who talks shit about his in-ring work is retarded. watch his matches against rey or juventud and tell me he's a bad worker. he was great in the ring.
for the record the cruiserweights did draw. in my opinion part of the reason WCW lost the war was because they started showing them less. like TNA is doing with the X-division right now
@menimeskcor They weren't talking about the cruiserweight division. They meant Kidman as an individual. He was a great worker and put on great matches, but he didn't have the charisma to go along with it and make himself a superstar. Kidman didn't have that special dynamic like Chris Jericho, Rey Mysterio, or Eddie Guerrero to be a main eventer. However, this "shoot" promo was pretty good.
This guy is a nothing. Does anyone wonder why WCW is history? This guy would have struggle to make it as a prelim bum on Saturday morning Memphis. This guy talking equal ratings dilemma x100000000
@CapnAkira You're surprised Kidman went nowhere? You mean with the charisma he showed here? You know, the whiny teenager voice, the backward baseball cap, being 5'7" tall and wrestling in denim shorts? And botching his finisher 30% of the time? I liked Kidman too, but guys like him don't lead promotions for a reason. He belonged as a star in the cruiserweight division. Nothing more.
@peterp21 Compared to the other talent pushed, why not? You act like I'm saying Kidman should have main evented with Austin and The Rock during the Attitude Era. I'm just saying he deserved more, like a run at the U.S. title. I'm not saying win it but at least a shot or something.
Kidman needed to be pushed as a mid card before he went main event. He runs laps around Hulk Hogan as far as wrestling ability but Hogan dosen't put anyone over.
@dewilder 11 (continued) 2/2 As you know that feud worked out well because the psychology behind it worked a LOT better. Nash was a bully and Mysterio the underdog. In this clusterfuck of a storyline, there was no story. Say Hogan had stayed Hollywood Hogan in his heel persona and you used Kidman like you did Mysterio without having silly shoot segments like this one, who knows what could have happened?
@dewilder11 Hogan didn't have to even wrestle Kidman in the first place. I mean, this is during the time David Arquette someone who never even wrestled in the first place was given the WCW World Title, a true way to have buried Kidman or try to humiliate him was to never even give him the time of day in the first place. Another factor that probably didn't help this feud is that it was not booked in a David Vs Goliath style i.e. Mysterio and Nash.
A "Shoot" in professional wrestling is a term that refers to any unplanned, unscripted or real-life occurrence within a wrestling event. "Worked shoot" is a scripted segment that takes place in a show with elements of reality being exposed, such as an off-screen incident between wrestlers being used as fuel for an on-screen rivalry between them. It can also be a segment that fans are meant to believe is a shoot, but is not. A "Work" is an event booked to happen. Get it right Youtube people!!!
Kidman has no one to blame but himself. He botched this shoot like he always botches the shooting star press. They gave him a chance against the most popular wrestler in history and he blew it with his monotone voice and lack of charisma. There is a reason WCW and WWE didn't push him. He's just not a star.
Oh yeah, and I loved the New Blood vs. Millionaires' Club feud. The veterans vs. young guys feud based on real-life tension had been done before, and it's been going on since, but never like this. The feud was awesome for a few months, but it fizzled during the heel/face turns.
Either I tuned in to this episode a few minutes late, or my memory must suck balls, but I don't know how I could forget this. Kidman's promo has to be the best I've seen in WCW.
@spinemelter2000 Yah, started out as a bad ass angle, but having the young guys be the heels and the old guys being the faces was exactly the opposite of what the fans wanted. Kinda ironic how they were still getting held down even during that angle.
Life sucks. It's 2010 and Hulk Hogan still thinks that his promos on Impact and getting the last word are more important than AJ Styles vs. RVD. Kevin Nash had a last good run with the Millionaires' Club in 2000, but now he has no place in wrestling. He's still a mental 11-year-old who thinks it's funny to point at his dick and bury the younger talent.
Trainwreck destined to fail. You build talent towards the main event. You don't have them be lower mid-card one day, put them over a main eventer the next day and expect them to be accepted to be at that level.
the problem with the new blood angle, wcw already is on life support at this point , and the guys who really could have sell kidman role of leader of the new blood, had already left . benoit, guerro, jericho, do this angle two years earlier, with any of those and wcw possibly last a few more years
wether it was a shoot or a promo,Kidman was right on,Hogan (and the likes) just gotta let go,they've had their time, but now they're just hurting the industry *cough* TNA *cough*.Wrestling has evolved, they haven't.
i was gonna say this is a work not a shoot but i see that its possibly half work half shoot and the reason i say its a work because that monitor just happened to be there and the announcers would have probs shut up if it was a shoot
@vidsrgd if it was a work they would have shut up to make it beleivable lol.....they sometimes try to cover up shoot promo's a lot in WCW Ive noticed making me confused wether it was or not :P
It was funny to hear the fans in the crowd... the older fans would cheer for Hulk but the younger fans would cheer for Kidman.
Kidman is way more entertaining than Hulk ever was. All Hulk did was play his stupid hero music and flex for the crowd. Kidman would go all out and put his body on the line on nearly every match he had.
tna is a glorified indie, which a dead nwa grasped for the first few years in an attempt to revive itself & even that failed.oh & tna is 8 years old
wcw had its roots in Jim Crockett promotions..one of the biggest for over 50years,support of an nwa that still had stars like dusty, flair. & when turner purchased it stayed as no 1 promotion in world for almost 2 years
& came this close in putting wwe outta business
the only thing common between tna & wcw will be their ending.
@MrGibbsatWar Everyone TNA Puts over and WCW put over and ECW Put Over that was supposed to be the new face of wrestling was buried in WWE....now WWE is putting over people quickly now cause they see TNA as a threat I think....Kaval and Daniel Bryan are proof they notice TNA has the best Wrestlers in Wrestling today
has anyone even bothered hiring this mug since wcw ? no.. the feud with hogan was the biggest thing that ever happened to him its no ones fault but his that he couldn't get megaover
frankly when you get to the point of putting billy kidman in a program with hollywood, yes hollywood hogan and have to refer to him as terry bolea to make it more realistic..you know the end is near
If he put a little more emotion into it, that would have been a great shoot. The fight was retarded. riiiight kidman is just going to knock Hogan down with ease..Ooookaaay.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Poor Hogan.. Fucking idiot Russo, putting him in there with a black hole of charisma, Billy Kidman. Passing the torch to a young guy is one thing, but some loserweight faggot like Kidman was the wrong choice. Kidman was nothing more than a jobber for the likes of Malenko, Misterio, Jericho, etc. He was not, and never will be, main event material. He's a little bitch, period.
This feud bombed because Hogan wasn't willing to do a clean job and with all due respect...Billy Kidman just wasn't a star nor did he look like one. He had loads of talent but he had no charisma. Russo's biggest problem wasn't pushing the young guys but pushing any and every younger star even if they had no charisma or ring ability.
It didn't work because look who Kidman was feuding with before Hogan...
...yeah, I can't remember either. I like that they wanted to push him, but they needed to build him up first by having him feud with guys like Luger and such, and maybe making us believe that he had any chance in hell of competing with Hogan. Instead they put him right at Hogan, out of nowhere.
Kidman was never the best person on the mike. Kidman never had the best charisma of WCW or WWE. What made Kidman so great is that he performed very well in the ring. I remember watching him wrestle amazing matches against the likes of Chris Jericho, Rey Mysterio, and a lot of others. Kidman beat Vince's "hero" John Cena when Cena was just a punk. As much as a lot of you won't care to admit, Kidman is one of the most solid wrestlers ever. The FCW divas should be grateful to be taught by him.
His match with Hogan screwed him over for all time. Hogan didn't comprehend the difference between putting a guy over and just letting him win. Examples of putting a guy over: Orton over Benoit, Sting over Flair (Sting got over when it was a draw) and Steve Austin over Bret Hart (2 matches that Austin lost). Hogan dominated the match but got hit with a steel chair that allowed Kidman to score a pinfall. The fans saw it as a fluke victory.
kidman shouldn't have broken his neck in WWE while jobbing. although i was actually going for kidman at this point because anything is better than hogan and flair during WCW's last year
maybe a shoot fighter can do it, Hulk Hogan trained by hiro matsuda, he knows things about technical wrestling, he can kick many people's ass in wrestling, surly he can kick simmons and johnson asses.
When did he slug Torrie Wilson? I have never heard tha mentioned by Torrie Wilson or was it ever in the nwes, wouldn't he have had charges pressed against him.
r u dumbasses seriously debating whos better hogan or billy kidman r we fuckin joking hogan has headlined wm after wm or starcade after starcade and has had high profile and even good matches with flair ,warrior at wm wat has billy kidman done he didnt even invent the shooting star press either

This was half work/half shoot. Hogan had apparently gone on a radio show and said Kidman couldn't 'draw flies'
The80srox 1 year ago
wether it was a shoot or a promo,Kidman was right on,Hogan (and the likes) just gotta let go,they've had their time, but now they're just hurting the industry *cough* TNA *cough*.Wrestling has evolved, they haven't.

WCW Shoots = Promo's
HipnosisV1Games 1 year ago
i was gonna say this is a work not a shoot but i see that its possibly half work half shoot and the reason i say its a work because that monitor just happened to be there and the announcers would have probs shut up if it was a shoot
vidsrgd 1 year ago
@vidsrgd if it was a work they would have shut up to make it beleivable lol.....they sometimes try to cover up shoot promo's a lot in WCW Ive noticed making me confused wether it was or not :P

@AdamBomb669 Some women do consider him handsome. By the way do you mean Trish Stratus? Are those two dating? Interesting.
I'm gutted he got his hands on Torrie Wilson. She is stunning.

Kidman.. Wow... Awful on the Mic
kjag23 1 year ago
It was funny to hear the fans in the crowd... the older fans would cheer for Hulk but the younger fans would cheer for Kidman.
Kidman is way more entertaining than Hulk ever was. All Hulk did was play his stupid hero music and flex for the crowd. Kidman would go all out and put his body on the line on nearly every match he had.

This was not a shoot people. The guy who put this video up is retarded. All this was scripted

@sayanroy36 yesssssss i am !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MrGibbsatWar 1 year ago
@MrGibbsatWar
well i guess its a stupid comparison then..my 2 cents
sayanroy36 1 year ago
@sayanroy36 its not stupid when its true , TNA is doing the same shit WCW did , answer me this ... are you in the wrestling business ?
MrGibbsatWar 1 year ago
@MrGibbsatWar
tna is a glorified indie, which a dead nwa grasped for the first few years in an attempt to revive itself & even that failed.oh & tna is 8 years old
wcw had its roots in Jim Crockett promotions..one of the biggest for over 50years,support of an nwa that still had stars like dusty, flair. & when turner purchased it stayed as no 1 promotion in world for almost 2 years
& came this close in putting wwe outta business
the only thing common between tna & wcw will be their ending.
sayanroy36 1 year ago
@MrGibbsatWar Everyone TNA Puts over and WCW put over and ECW Put Over that was supposed to be the new face of wrestling was buried in WWE....now WWE is putting over people quickly now cause they see TNA as a threat I think....Kaval and Daniel Bryan are proof they notice TNA has the best Wrestlers in Wrestling today
HipnosisV1Games 1 year ago 2
Billy Kidman definetely looks like a young Bret Hart.He is another handsome guy that girls would swoon over.

has anyone even bothered hiring this mug since wcw ? no.. the feud with hogan was the biggest thing that ever happened to him its no ones fault but his that he couldn't get megaover

LOL HE BECAME A CRUSIER weight champ in wwe, feuded with jamie noble and was there were like 2-3 years.
But far from getting over, he didnt even get a reaction from the crowd

frankly when you get to the point of putting billy kidman in a program with hollywood, yes hollywood hogan and have to refer to him as terry bolea to make it more realistic..you know the end is near

Lionheart218 2 years ago
shooting star press
thewcwguy 2 years ago 3
This feud bombed because Hogan wasn't willing to do a clean job and with all due respect...Billy Kidman just wasn't a star nor did he look like one. He had loads of talent but he had no charisma. Russo's biggest problem wasn't pushing the young guys but pushing any and every younger star even if they had no charisma or ring ability.

I like the idea of a Hogan/Kidman program. It just didnt pan out well.
DrewBludd 2 years ago 18
It didn't work because look who Kidman was feuding with before Hogan...
...yeah, I can't remember either. I like that they wanted to push him, but they needed to build him up first by having him feud with guys like Luger and such, and maybe making us believe that he had any chance in hell of competing with Hogan. Instead they put him right at Hogan, out of nowhere.
josephD32 1 year ago 4
@josephD32 Well at least good ol' hulky actually put him over rather than the normal squash we normally get with him...
StraightEdgeStunner 8 months ago
@DrewBludd this could have worked if Hogan didn't have creative control on his matches

i wasn't a wcw fan but i guess that new blood faction were a heel group and the older guys were the faces? how was that ever gonna work
Crookmeisteren 2 years ago 9
Kidman was never the best person on the mike. Kidman never had the best charisma of WCW or WWE. What made Kidman so great is that he performed very well in the ring. I remember watching him wrestle amazing matches against the likes of Chris Jericho, Rey Mysterio, and a lot of others. Kidman beat Vince's "hero" John Cena when Cena was just a punk. As much as a lot of you won't care to admit, Kidman is one of the most solid wrestlers ever. The FCW divas should be grateful to be taught by him.
Poenk 2 years ago 43
His match with Hogan screwed him over for all time. Hogan didn't comprehend the difference between putting a guy over and just letting him win. Examples of putting a guy over: Orton over Benoit, Sting over Flair (Sting got over when it was a draw) and Steve Austin over Bret Hart (2 matches that Austin lost). Hogan dominated the match but got hit with a steel chair that allowed Kidman to score a pinfall. The fans saw it as a fluke victory.

amen I loved watching this guy wrestle on WCW Saturday Night
joepescifromcasino 2 years ago 4
@Poenk maybe he wasn't the best on the mic, but the things he said in this promo was awesome
crazyfool619 1 year ago
@Poenk "one of the most solid wrestlers"
LMAO!
praise fail.
What made Kidman great was nothing because he wasn't great. He was a prelim who got lucky and never drew a dime.

jesus christ was kidman bad on the mic or what, just his voice makes it irritating and not in a good way.
goodguycraig 2 years ago
i gotta disagree. i thought he did rather well on the mic
FordHick515 2 years ago 5
kidman shouldn't have broken his neck in WWE while jobbing. although i was actually going for kidman at this point because anything is better than hogan and flair during WCW's last year

hogan would kill billy kidman
johnylea18 2 years ago
I hate to admit it but its true but Ahmed Johnson or Ron Simmons would kick Hogan's ass anyday.
444Sidney 2 years ago
maybe a shoot fighter can do it, Hulk Hogan trained by hiro matsuda, he knows things about technical wrestling, he can kick many people's ass in wrestling, surly he can kick simmons and johnson asses.
19dida83 2 years ago
Hell no Hogan was good but Johnson or Simmons would have or still will kick Hogan's ass. Simmons was also trained by Matsuda.
