First I was sceptical about a "revival" after all that years, but now after seing it, I think it was splendid! I wished they would produce more episodes. Well written dialogues, strong characters impersonated by a marvellous cast, daring themes. It absolutely convinced me. O please continue!
Rose has aged ALOT in 6 years lol! I enjoyed this, not nearly as much as the original but then I wasnt expecting to. I know its a trivial thing, but why was Rose running an employment agency anyway? She left with the Bellamy's just 6 years prior to this (appearently lol) and theres no mention of what happened? I loved the set tho, lush and definatly 1930's! but whats with the MASSIVE staircase lol its sooooo big!
Nina Simone lives! So thrilled to hear her timeless music being used in film and television, including Upstairs Downstairs, introducing "The High Priestess of Soul" to yet a new generation. The original series was a favorite in my household when I was a teenager in San Diego; being shot on video gave the show the edge it needed to place you right there in the household, right in the middle of all the action, upstairs and downstairs.
I really enjoyed the series and I'm glad that others did to as people keep going on about it with regards to Downton Abbey becaus both shows have been screened at around the same time and in such a small world as the aristocracy there are bound to be parallels. Loved the direction and I loved the fact it was hard hitting as well as sweet and made me think.
The trailer music is Nina Simone's cover of Feeling Good and was written by Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse for the 1965 musical 'The Roar of the Greasepaint, the Smell of the Crowd'.
If the person who chose the score for he advert was trying to be authentic to the period drama's setting then they failed miserably as the music was even written for another 35 years after the time of Upstairs Downstairs.
I'm really not sure what to think about this continuation of the series. Part of me is really excited to see what happens next to the members of 165 Eaton Place, but another part is weary of people tampering with an already flawless show. The series finale summed up everything perfectly, and I can't think how they could possibly best it. At least creators Jean Marsh and Eileen Atkins are on board to bring this show back, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
@AbbeyTheCoolest I agree. That song is absolutly class. I really want to find the singer I know the song (I'm feeling good). But that singer is just SKILLZ!
I think the states will have to wait until mid April to see this. I hope some one from the U.k. downloads this series on You Tube. i will still but the DVD
it's seeing Keeley Hawkes in this promo that is making me think I probably won't like this. I love the original Upstairs Downstairs and was very excited to hear it was coming back to our screens. However I'm fed up of the same people playing similar roles again and again, which is something the BBC always do. Bring some fresh faces to the screen!!!
@n1a2o3m4 I wouldn't know about London being "un-fantastic"---I've never been to Europe! I have to wait til April to see the new Upstairs Downstairs .
I can't wait for this, having never watched upstairs downstairs because it was before my time, all I know is that it's a peroid drama so BRING IT ON. THANK YOU BBC!!!!

This new chapter as advertised was a mistake:165 Eaton Place should have been left mothballed, and Rose pensioned off to the Southwold Estate..
