Just brought me a 2003 Sable LS Premium in Silver Frost with grey leather its loaded to the max and no column shifter either. i looked my hardest to find a 2000-05 Sable LS without the coulmn shifter. also you can find the GS Model between the years 02-03 without the column shifter but has the console one.
Beautiful Sable! I actually liked that design along with the Taurus. It was criticized for being too plain, but I thought it was very classy. Great video, thanks for sharing.
My 2001 Taurus has 172,000 & the original sparkplugs & wires. I wonder why they've lasted so long. I've thought about replacing them for the hell of it, but I'm afraid to because I was told by a FORD service tech. that if it ain't broke, don't fix it
I have an 2004 Taurus with 194k which has the Vulcan engine.
Everything is original & it runs perfect. It runs strong & smooth considering it's a base engine. Nobody could tell it has that mileage unless they look @ the speedo. It actually looks like it just rolled out the Budget Car Rental lot all spotless & without a single ding, dent or scratch.
People sure underestimate how good this last generation Taurus is.
It's now about 200 miles shy of 197K. 19MPG? Are you going by the onboard Instant MPG reading in the info display? Cause that always averages about 20.5MPG for me. But when I do a complete fill-up & drive it until the low fuel indicator comes up. I calculate how many miles I've driven & the gallons I've put in from the last complete fill up. I usually get about 25MPG & even 29MPG if the A/C is off. & thats with original spark-plug wires set.
it's an 03, so it doesn't have the Multi information display. I actually think my mileage is a bit low because my tire pressure is a bit low... I'll take care of that and see if it gets any better. Which engine does your car have?
well, the Accord has way better residual value, cheap to maintain, and they last forever... they could drive 300,000+ miles. I don't know how an Accord drives, nor do I know how safe they are, but I do know that some Hondas have road noise issues. But, I like the sable, it's easy to drive, it's a good combination of power and economy, and it's given me very few problems. My only complaint is the transmission
I'm thinking of getting an '03 Sable LS Premium sedan. Seems like a good, solid car. I want something with good gas mileage and safe. Any okays on this car?
It's a decent car, mine has just over 50,000 miles on it. I bought it used in 2006, and haven't had any serious problems. The best gas mileage i've ever gotten out of it was 31 mpg after driving 55 mph on midgrade 89 octane gas. It usually gets around 27 mpg on the highway (on regular gas), and usually around 20 in around town driving. The duratec 24v engine is good, plenty of pick up and power. But if you want safe and good gas mileage, I think a Honda Accord is a better choice.
I used to have an 03, but now I have an 05. I like the updated guages and message center, as well as the all wood shifter and steering wheel in the 05's.
i miss my sable she was white with grey leather seats. cracked block and a new tranny

My 2000 Taurus SEL w/the Duratec gets ~20 MPG city. High twenties on the highway.

That's actually about what I get. I think mine has gone down slightly because it has winter tires right now

same with my grandpas car except 147k and orginal sparkplugs and wires makes fuel mpg go down to :)

Vulcan. It not that quick taking off but it comes to life after it gets rolling.
Intechdude300 3 years ago
Isn't the Vulcan supposed to get better mileage than the Duratec?

Sable is the way to go...and it's a MUCH safer car than any foreign make of the same time period.
I have a 2003 Taurus, awesome car, drives well, great gas mileage, VERY safe.

But, I want something cheaper than an Accord, mildly luxurious, and domestic origin.
galacticempire19bby 3 years ago
well, a sable fits that criteria quite well
