This is much better than Sutherland's later work, which tended to present little animation and provide fodder for commercials advertising to children.
Bill Scott was working as a writer for John Sutherland's animation unit at the time, and he didn't like it. He got tired of being a mouthpiece for corporate industrial films, and later said that every time he tried to quit, "they stuffed money in my mouth". Finally, by 1956, he finally left Sutherland for good, returning to UPA to work on their "BOING BOING SHOW" for TV...
yeah.. keep complaining about "big oil". That's like the baby complaining about the big boob and the boobs constant control and manipulation. Go work in the oil patch, earn good money, do something useful, learn something. You might learn that it's the government that makes the most money off oil sales. You also might learn that "big DUMB oil" is often more applicable. The API publishes many good specifications and standards that help save lives & money.
No, "atarian999", that is Hal Sutherland, who gave us those monstrosities along with Norm Prescott and Lou Scheimer, two other immensely evil geniuses.
@atarian999 As Victheremin pointed out earlier, the signature looks similar, but you're thinking of HAL Sutherland. Maybe they're brothers, or father and son-- John's company apparently did most of it's work- Industrial cartoons like this- In the 50s, while Hal worked in the 60s-80s.
I think the 3rd Dimension would be great if we could just live without conflict.
And maybe that is the purpose. If we can eventually do what we ultimately want, we can come to an agreement that living as physical is a good way to experience creation.
But is the yin yang sort of mentality always present? When will Utopia come?
Wow! Its interesting the history angle... Big oil pushing capitalism. I mean Mars the "red" planet under a dictator who bears a striking resemblance to Joe Stalan.....

Sutherland's company brought us such dregs as "Gilligan's Planet", Batman (w/ Batmite), "The Superfriends", etc.
