@alphonsemouzon I was in a NIGHTCLUB where Dizzy was playing. And I had a wallet that would appear to burst into flames when I opened it.And of course whenever I did that it would attract the attention of everyone including the band because it made a very large flame that was hard to ignore. He loved that and that's why he started talking to me. He loved funny things. Before I worked in the film industry I was a professional juggler and he was was naturally attracted to things like that.

I just wanted to say its really a thrill and pleasure to be here tonight and hear Al Mouzon pay tribute to one of the great players of the only true and real American art form. I have a good feeling that says Dizzy would have liked this a lot and I will re post on google+ just because of that. Dizzy was a good friend during the 80's who stayed at my place when he was in town because we shared a passion for a good joke. So I think its okay for me to say that..

I had the pleasure of playing "live with Dizzy and having him record one of my compositions called "Virtue" with Toots Thielemans and the late great Cuban percussionist Mongo Santamaria (who first recorded "Virtue" in 1969). Flute player Bobbi Humphrey recorded it after Mongo. I recorded it in 1996 on my album eponymously entitled "VIRTUE" in Germany. Then percussionist Poncho Sanchez recorded Virtue" on his "Soul of the Congo " CD a few years ago.

Modern Jazz sourced deep in "Hard-Bop". Mouzon continues the tradition, created by Drummers, leading their own groups. He does that since

the early 70tees, innovating JAZZ-ROCK with a group of musicians. Now he turns around, doing "some" Jazz, always with a great feeling, not thinking about style. Good music uses style, but is never dependend on it.
