I'm not a big country fan either, but I saw Jeff Bridges and The Abiders perform this on Jay Leno a couple nights ago and I really liked it. I've always enjoyed his movies and I was impressed with this song. Good luck to Jeff and The Abiders.

For a little in studio show - this is pretty good. It's a simple song and I can see the "Buddy Holly" comment. This could easily have been a 'lost' Buddy Holly tune. Beats crap outta Lady Googa any day.
