Have to agree with the folks who say this is top notch. 89 and 90 the Dead were on top of their game. Jerry and Brent had incredible synergy. Check out Dead New Years DVD you don't believe me. No comparison. How can you say Kieth or Vince in same league with Brent. You don't know music if you do.
These were some of the best shows Ive seen them play. Two years later they kicked ass again at Copps. Unfortunately I got popped the second day and missed their last show at Copps. The energy was always fantastic whenever they played these round arenas.
I was at these shows and they were amazing. First of all any show with Brent was better the The Vince era, but that was not all Vince's fault. Secondly The Victim into SOTM (3-21-90)was a mind blower for those ready to take it. (wink)
This was a great Scarlet. The bands energy level was very high in Canada.
Well i just watched this version, and it sure was nice, and i haven't seen the Deer Creek one and i am so not into arguing which song version was better etc... but for all you Scarlet lovers out there, i have never heard a version better then May 93 in Albany, regardless of the decade. Jerry had like 5 solos... and kept on coming at us wave after wave... talk about vibes running through your body! see if anyone has it and can post it. I'm sorry i don't.
Hey Tito, thanks for sharing bro, its a great version. Sound quality is great, a lot better than most of the stuff i click on. What sucks is that the coments thread reads like a sad reflection of society today. People just seem to love to bitch and argue about every little thing in life. I love the Dead and their music is an escape from the negative shit in life for me a lot of the time. To the arguing bitches, go watch Hanity & Colmbs. The Dead needs a soup Nazi. BItches, No Dead 4 U!
@MrGrevy melvin never played with the grateful dead..and i love melvin and i still see him donna was only in the band from 72-mid 79 thats bout 7 years touring cauze the 75 hiatus and she took some 73 off...brent 80-90 pure fire. he brought the best outta jerry. you dont see him smiling for nothing. brents vocals and keys especially his b3 playing brought a fire buring under the band's ass they really needed after Keith (God Bless His Soul) was just really lacking all in all in energy by late78.
@mrfish4lyfe True melvin was a JGB entity, but still far better than brent. Brent was not responsible for bringing out the best in Jerry, that's simply an offensive statement. Brent's sound was just odd and did not suit the band as well as it should have. Vince was a non entity and hardly worth mentioning imo.
@MrGrevy ran outta characters lol...brent was a great musician too he had a ear of gold and never stepped on toes. i think vince was the real misfit but lets not go there (god bless his soul too) brent lives on
It's OK. Happy to have the vid. But, *something* went down in those '90 MSG shows that will never happen again. Those of us who were there... Well, we are *still* there 20 years later....
By far this is the best Scarlet Begonias in the late 80's thru the end of thier run. I was at Deercreek and it was no where near as sick as Copps. I was at both shows and the energy this night was insane. I wish they would release this on DVD but I don't think they had all the cameras they would normally have if they were doing an outdoor show that night. Don't get me wrong I freaked at the creek, but this version/show was on a different level. Brent>Vince/Bruce
@MrGrevy Was Deer Creek 95 the only scarlet>fire you have ever seen or something? I was there and it was uninspiring. By album sound do you mean all parts of the band firing on all cylinders, great interaction between the band member, then yes that is what I want. Are you one of those deadheads who listens to hissy poorly taped shows and think its the best show ever just because you saw it? I would rank the number 2 scarlet fire of the era as hampton col 89. What would be yours?
@Spaceysowhat No, I wasn't there my presumptuous friend. I have what is called a differing opinion. It may shock you to learn that not everyone feels the same way. This solo (not the whole song) was better constructed but the deer creek 95 solo was immaculate, it really expressed the feeling of the times and the desperation of a dying legend.
@MrGrevy OMG I just re-listened to a 14 minute fire with almost no solos! Smack is a terrrible thing! Deer Creek 95 is not even a top 10 Vince Scarlet Fire. Besides the back fence crashing really bummed me out that year. 95 was the summer tour from hell =(
I would put the sandstone 91 or richfield col 91 as the best of the 90's. It is just my opinion, but nonetheless, thanks for this posting, it is good!!
what happen to the "terrific Black Peter video???? who cut it to a minute and some change? I need the full black peter terrific back in its entirety. who does that, cut it:
@TitoDead I know I just commented, but just needed to say I've listened to this version of Scarlet -Fire NUMEROUS times, and it is, in my eyes not only the best from the 90's but seeing that I'm a "87-90 child", this is, for me, the best version of Scarlet-Fire period....THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU- FOR POSTING THIS!!
@TitoDead I would check out the Sandstone 6-24/25-91 and richfield, oh 9-4-91. Was at Richfield, not sandstone, but that sandstone S/F might be the best all time (imo). It is unbelievable to me, and the Ohio S/F is just beautiful, prob because i was there, but nonetheless, think it is up there in the all time best. The deer creek 91 gets kudos for being the best under 20 minute S/F. Not knocking this one, i love it all, just check out those other 2 and let me know what you think. peace out!
I was at 6/7/91 while very good, 3/22/90 is superior IMHO.

Having seen the dead since 1983,thru 1995.I saw many scarlet/fires and listened
to many versions, and although I didnt attend this show,I always thought this was
one the finest of any era.The energy, the midi, the jams just blew me away. The one
version Iiked in the vince era was the philly show in spring of 1993.

@mrfish4lyfe No, not at all. He was the misfit of the band. Never really fit in. Melvin Seals and Godchaux far outshone his briefly burning star.
