  • What depth is the bench? I am about to make a bench in my new shed and want to make it big enough for the 1050 when I get it.

  • @ghulands 30 inches... 1050 has a pretty small foot print...

  • City, its a work bench. Best cover is Stainless Steal. It will scratch and dent, but again its a work bench. I would go a step further and seal the plywood with polyurethane...I am new to your channel and have enjoyed the video's and your humor....

  • Off subject but what brand of loader should i get? Mostly gonna make 9mm . I want a decent one

  • if you are covering the bench top i wouldn't worry about painting it. I would sand the plexiglass with a vibrating sander. It will make the plexiglass opaque. This will disguise the scratches it will get later while you are working. The molding that you like so well will get in the way. eventually you will snag it and break part of it off. (known from experience}. But then you might be more careful than i was. Good luck it is looking good

  • I always paint my work benches. If left as raw wood, they just suck up dirt and grease/oils and end up looking like crap fast. Then again, if you are going to keep this as a dedicated loading bench sizing lube would be the the worst thing that would come near it, and the plexy would solve that. And I agree with the pegboard!

  • A homemade quilt?..jk

  • Formica!

  • I say a light walnut stain God Bless

  • use truck bed linerto cover the table. doest dent, scratch, and looks awesome

  • Sorry didn't get to the end of vid on my last comment. Keep it wood. You could stain if you want. Otherwise in any case use a Marine Spar grade sealant over the wood deepening the wood. After your first coat apply filler to the screw heads. Then 2 final coats. Nothing Shiny and if you can buy the same product in 1 can of spray form too. When your done with your coat you'll want to spray for leveling action. Colder the better. Sand between coats and lightly spray. Maybe 2 cans. Nice work bench.

  • Like the wood look...did you getting clear plexi? you can save some time and get color plexi in one big sheet. wont be see thru but a nice look the to match the bench and the room... you stay classy Socal :)

  • Laminate the bench with some smokey grey or whatever. Easy clean up. Plexi will scratch bad.

  • i really like the idea of white under plexi personally. for one when it comes time to clean it off there will be no doubt when its clean. second the clean room feel has gott be cool when reloading and you definatly get that with white under plexi.

  • You have two reloader's!!!! Lucky.

  • paint i like the glass idea you can put pics or info under it

  • Wood.

  • I'm thinking you should put your Dillion calender girls underneath the plexi, however, I'm not sure Mrs. Socal would appreciate that.

  • No blood today!

  • I'm not sure if I would paint, I like the looks of natural wood but if I did paint it. It would would be a light gray color for contrast I believe if you painted it white eventually you would get a headache from the brightness, just a thought. have fun....

  • @rchopp good points , thanks

  • If it's a consideration, white will make it easier to see small parts if dropped and brighten up the bench top but wood is definately "warmer"...if that makes sense..

  • Use bed liner, That stuff you spray/paint on the truck bed ;)

  • no paint a quick coat of stain will work though

  • print out useful schematics for your firearms and put them under the plexiglass.

  • Looks great bro.im with other comments stain and plexi glass

  • Here is an idea for you. I bought a 4' x 8' sheet of 1/16" sheet vinyl for about $11.00 from Menards. It is smooth on one side and sort of beaded on the other. I used it for a desk surface gluing it over particle board.

I also used it over drywall in the ceiling of a shower where the paint was always cracking from the humidity and sealed the seams with silicone. It has been up almost 3 years now and looks great.

    Good Luck.

    God Bless

  • Stain the wood... but build plexiglass top up off the counter so you can slip your reloading book, or anything, under the plexiglass and not worry about it being in the way. You could have your keyboard under it as well. Just an idea. Good job on the build. Cheers

  • use corander

  • new vacum sealer n drills n smoker n reloader n work bench, what the hell do u do must be medical marijuana grower

  • Hey, you're doing awesome. I would consider the aesthetics now of the color you want in the garage. Paint it the color of your overall garage vision; could be a nice complimentary color, too. It would look crisp, please the wife, and increase resale value of the house.

  • Leave it wood that is a good looking sheet of plywood just countersink the screws put some putty over them then like the shechef said clear coat it then the plexiglass. make it pop.

  • paint the lower half and stain the wood under the plexi.

  • Light stain.

  • Linseed oil over the wood then plexy glass. You can put pics of vidieos from when you first started on YouTube. Would paint the walls white and I think some one suggested Pegboard...LOL I could be wroing might have miss read...Paula

  • @Allen2045 ohhh i like this idea

  • @Allen2045 You can Actually keep the wood look and have a logo or pictures centered under the plexiglass... I saw a buddy do that, it looks sweeeeeeeeeet. makes me wanna do it...

  • you know your just gonna put a light stain on it or just clear coat it - why you playin? lol

  • Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard Pegboard

  • @ChaplainJoe1 you shit head

    LOL

you know I love ya man... you saved my ass I Ill never forget that... but peg board??? shheeeeeeeet.........

  • Wood is pretty. White will help you see better. Like the little parts and pcs. that will be set on top. I like the idea of plexiglass. MyDaddysgirl44 has a cool idea also.

  • Stain it , poly it, put some cool stuff on top of if like pictures of guns or something then lay the plexiglass on top. haha my 2 cents lol....TJ

  • Buy a roll of masking paper and put a piece of the cutter off of a seran wrap box on the edge of the worktable, then just roll out the paper over the workbench!

  • no paint, leave it or stain it.

  • Ha! As soon as I read your reply to my previous comment, I knew what you had in mind. Good idea. As others have suggested, I too would say to stain and finish the wood top and protect all that beauty with the plexiglass.

  • stain it.. it will look awesome....

  • plexiglass will scratch just like stainless steel think about what your gona do on the table top ,Molding along the sides ,with a small powder spill the powder will have a place to hide ... I hope your doors are going to slide rather than swing ,due to the handle on your press going low enough to keep your door from opening ...

  • Don not paint it.

Good luck with your work bench.

    Greetings from Holland.

  • @socalpreppers I would get some kind of SoCalpreppers logo banner made up at a sign store and put it under the plexiglass so you got a badass bench with your name on it for vids

  • @Ifitallfails I like this idea also!

  • I agree with some of the other comments. Stain it.

  • I would keep it natural, maybe some stain like FallenS8nt suggested. Still prefer a 70 shore rubber mat, but it is all up to you! Take care!

  • Rethink using the plexiglas or even the Lexan. They will get all scratched up alot faster then you think. Stay away from even using melonite coated sheets as it chips easily too.

Either go with the formica on a 1/4 in sheet of plywood like Mountain man suggested or just use several coats of polyurethane(thats what I used on my reloader). The polyurethane is pretty good stuff and tough too. I have had zero problems.

  • Stain it, it will look beautiful!!

  • leave it wood

  • You should fill in the screw holes in with stainable wood filler and then stain the whole thing a nice cherry oak color.

  • wow i said tile but did not say ceramic and plexy glass would be like ceramic tile plus dont you have to watch e.s.d around gun powder

  • Gold plate it brother.... Those Dillons deserve 1st class table. or..... Flip a coin.;-)

  • @PopPrepper you nut case... Ill think about it LOL

  • No paint. Put a good coat of poly on and be done. Natural wood looks so much better than paint IMHO. Agree o nthe need to rethink the plexi my friend. Not durable at all..

  • @mountainprepper21 yep wood natural.

  • white makes a very clean look..but i like the wood look best..

  • leave the wood bro. looks better, plus i take it you're going for a workshop kind of look?

  • Ooh, plexiglass scratches up and cracks really easy. You may want to rethink that decision.

  • @gunnwild1 too late.. but made it less than perminent

  • Looks good buddy, kinda on the fence about to paint or not to pant....

  • @minbound not to paint was the choice

  • One more thing... if you paint it, you should wait a week to mount the cover to ensure the paint is completely dry. Otherwise, use a 2k coating that is solvent-based (clear or not) and mount the plexi after the solvent smell has evaporated. If you decide on solvent-based, make sure the coating doesn't craze the plexiglass.

  • Making it too easy for LBP SoCal LOL

  • @Rhiahl QUE>>>>??????

  • @SoCalPreppers Next time LBP visits it will be too easy for him to reload for you....

  • I would suggest using 1/4" Lexan instead of Plexi. It is very easy to crack plexi when drilling and screwing it. Lexan is unbreakable. Also you can get both in opac white or black. Check with your local glass shop.

  • I would paint it gray so it does not show the dirt and walls a color that does the same. Looks good.

  • If it were me, I'd pint it white so I could permamount a cool poster (or two) under the plexiglass with style. Do an arts and crafts collage thing with the Dillon 2012 calendar under the plexiglass... Nice video, and congrats on the 1050.

  • I would leave it wood and maybe fill the screw holes in as it will give a nice effect with the wood under when you look through the perspex , painting white will make it look a bit clinical and not a workspace ( if that makes sense ) just my two pennies worth , looking good SoCal, will have to fly you over here to do my DIY jobs :)
