Balrog was originally M Bison, (think about it boxer that looks exactly like Mike Tyson--M Bison) Vega was originally Balrog, and M Bison was originally Vega- when they were going to release street fighter in the states there were some obvious concerns about being sued for copyright infringement for the M Bison name- so they changed the names around for US releases.
