I think on the first few VH albums he had some real ability, but I don't think he took care of his voice at all and paid the price. Too much screaming and partying took its toll.
To logeybear5150, U must be a tone deaf retard, to not see wot these has beens are doing, wake up man.. WAKE the FUCK UP!!! YA being ripped off. LOSER.
@boxafrogz yeah bro, that dude is a fucking idiot. haha. he just doesnt want to admit to himself that he got burned on his 200 dollar tickets to a weak show with a full blown gaylord for a singer.
its not a bad sound in pretty woman intro,it happens that the sixth string got burst, its awesome how eddie keeps playing in spite of doesn´t have one of the main strings in this song thats why he is awesome
@logeybear5150 hey bro, a fifteen year old could have done better. i can hear eddies tone behind the off time out of key wrong note bad bend riffing. this is not sounding good at all. these guys obviously are too good to rehearse. dont be so defensive of your band here. they sound like shit. its van halen, we expect nothing but the best from these guys, and we got cover band quality at its best.
Yeah but not exactly ed changes his sound a lot and I sure when he made this amp he wanted something that he would have room to work with that is part of what make's the 5150 III so great
I agree. I had the opportunity to play one of those overpriced Frankenstein replicas through one. It's a nice sounding amp, but it's a very "scooped" amp. I had the mids almost pegged and it still sounded like the mids were low, not cutting through like an old Marshall Plexi cranked.
@spialien1 Dude I know this reply is late in comin but.... have ya heard this pub singer!!! DLR can't do DLR, BUT Sammy can do Sammy. Chickenfoot kicks this cash cows ass. \m/ R.I.P RJD \m/
I went to the concert in St. Louis on 4-26-08 and its was unbelievably dynamic, dramatic, and cool like being in another world and outta this world! The best I ever seen. I own all of this bands songs now. Keep at it Van Halen. And a Triple thank you my friends!
hey people. the second leg of the tour and the rest of the shows are all dave. no more lets see what happens. its dave. BACK AGAIN!! the van halen that you want!!!.
And somebody said something about Dave looking gay in his wardrobe. Did you ever see him back in the 70's with purple tights and white furry boots? That's just showbiz, and I liked they he, and Ed too, always wore funky kooky clothes. Again, he looks fine to me. Screw all you goofs and your slams, how awesome is it to be able to see them still? No one today has a 1/10th the energy their music does. Going to my 2nd show in MI, last show, VIP package!Yahoo! Preshow party, inside the ramp seats!
Even in the old days they weren't perfect, especially Dave. He was always criticized for having very short vocal range, and we didn't care. He sounded cool. Still does as far as I'm concerned. Sounds very similar to the old days, and maybe better since I think he's trying harder now. I think Ed is very nearly the same too. He uses different guitars and amps now, I think his sound changed right around OU812 or the F.U.C.K. album. But that's ok, change is good. Everything about the show is awesome
So I was there. About 10 rows back and up on Eddie's side. I was a huge, huge Van Halen fan and as a 13 year old saw them at my first ever concert in 1984. It's was sad being there sorta. Eddie was the highlight of course, but he isn't playing like he used to. I am sure he is bored even though he makes it seem like he isn't. it's sad hearing a much slower eruption, not because i am a guitar person but its like watching Jordan with the Wizards Ed you can play, go play some new stuff.
Sounds decent to me but not having Mike is lame. Also there should have been another verse after the Mean Street solo but Ed goes straight into the outro. "Somebody said Fair Warning? Lord strike that poor boy down!" Ssshhkkkrrraaauuaanngg!!!
Eddie sounds alright, man, close enough to the original '82, '83, tour-sound. MikeSh is right though, not quite as many notes per second, but after twenty years that flexibility isn't too bad. Ed still stands up against most of his contemporaries, and this was a good tour.
Now Eddie is having medical tests done and more dates are postponed!! Doesn't look good. Despite the sound issues, we should be glad they made it this far on the tour....
I think they should have a major reunion tour. Bring Mikey bask on bass, let Wolfie play all the rhythm overdub parts, even lead on a song or two maybe, then have Sammy out for a few songs, (the crowd would go wild) and even Gary for "Once". Now that would be a show!
saw then last night. Great show and loved to see Ed play the old songs. but, his right hand is giving him problems; very arthritic looking and you can already see the deformations. He is not as clean as he has been in the past, but to me, he is still the KING.
Eddie seems to be playing with alot more energy. Maybe he has seen the light? Or does not want to get old. I work at a senior center, and we all get old someday. I just wish the old line up was in place. I am 33, and used to seeing Mad Mike. Why are they always missing someone like every 8 yrs. Is that in the bands contract or something?? And why was dave wearing that gay getup in the press conf?? LOL What did he do get a dress tip from Rob halford "Breakin the Law, Breakin the Law." LOL
I like the fact that Dave just lets Eddie do his thing. He's not trying to steal the show like in the old days. And Eddie's playing, quite frankly is still the best out there...
Man those new Amps are awesome sounding. Those things really bring out that early VH sound. That Peavey junk just don't cut it on those latter VH Albums.
you know i have a early 5150 2x12 and to my ears its better for me than his new evh 5150,even tho i have one too i must admit its very cool channel 2 is very plexi like, everyones ear is different i say, and today eds too effects i wish he was playing the same as in the lwan tour thats priceless
anything is better than the peavey. I do have my ultimate straight from the amp sound. Mesa boogie quad preamp into 295 stereo simulclass. The again you cant beat the spaghetti thats David Gilmours setup
I dont have any kids, but I think Valarie, and Ed are just trying to encourage their son.(I am a huge VH fan but dissapointed no return of MAD MIKE). I dont see how the media has called this a reunion tour. It is not until the original line up returns. The sound quality is awful. Glad I did not waste my tax return on this...
Talanted anybody can play the bass. lol All the bass really is is the root note of whatever the guitar is doing. Bring back mad mike dammit. lol Why are they always missing someone. Sounds like eddie is always trying to re invent the wheel ???? Michael anthony is much better. I saw the 316 solo with wolfie and eddie in 2004. Sounded like shit.
it's not perfect, it's 3 aging men and a rookie kid. think back to when you were 16... now picture yourself at 55.... ya, that's right, van halen are doing just fine thank you.
Looks like Dave has been doing his situps. Now I wish he would sing in the original high register tho. ;( Dave is all form and no function live as he has been since 1976. He's underrated as a singer on the records though...
Wolfgang just probbaly takes after his mom Valerie Bertinelli I mean he is half italian some italians r a little well big and tall (not in a mean way) cause im italian and im tall and alittle big I weigh about 120 lbs. wolfgang is probbly a little big because he's tall
That's a pretty shitty thing to say. You have no idea what it would be like to be thrusted into arenas rocking out to thousands of people buddy. Wolfgang is very talented in case you didn't notice. :)
Cut the guy some slack, he is 50. All those years of jumping off 7 ft drum risers finally caught up with Dave's back. I still can't get over how well they are playing right now. The kings are back!!!!!
Yeh they were like they were 25 years ago, but we all get older. Crap if i can be 50+ and be on stage and have a sh^& load of fun playing music to thousands of people: count me in.
