Ugh. I can't believe that a store with advertising this AMAZING lost customers to Best Buy and Circuit City. Consumers just love seeing a bunch of unattractive, plain jane dorks physically holding up poorly-lit and boring electronics!!! These stores deserved to die - with their very existence on the line, this was their strategy?
I just bought that sony discman at my local goodwill store for about a buck, and the thing sounds great in the car!!!!!!! What a deal. I could have paid $109.00 back in 1993. My mom worked at the Caldor in Hamden, CT for years. I used to get her employee discount especially for baby diapers and wipes.
@shawnsgirl56 I've prob seen your mom mad times if she worked in that Caldors lol! My family stayed in that one in Hamden and the one in Milford all the time. The first boombox in the pic I got from Caldor's but in like 94' or 95' though lol!
My MP3 player cost less than both those things, lol. God, how things have changed/ I remember buying my first stereo with my first check working tobacco back in 1990. I felt like such hot shit--$100, omg!!
omg! i remember this store when i was little! me and my parents shopped there! can't believe its been more than 10 years! we went to the Caldor's in Melville, NY and i remember every Christmas, they set up little village scenery with Christmas trees and christmas adornaments and decorations. there was so much good things in that store! now its a Kohl's! my childhood was crushed! at least they have a Christmas scenery every year. man, someone should get this chain back!!
So let me get this straight. Caldor,Bradlees,Woolworths,Ames,Jamesway all quality stores I grew up with went bankrupt. This is totally unfair. These stores were the best now we are stuck with retailers who use cheap products made in foreign countries that break after one use. We need a time machine to go back to 1987.
All of those fell victim to what I call the Bing-Bong theory. Any store that required you to pass through a bing-bong sound to get to the electronics department (imagine a CD player costing $159) as the electronics is the primary source of profit for stores. It's annoying as hell to hear a Bing-bong sound every time you pass through an electric eye, and hence you don't go there, and the store goes bankrupt.
god i loved going to caldor because it had a hotdog restaraunt in it...(only back when i was a kid i didn't know what Nathans famous was lol) good times
ahh CALDOR!!!!!! that store was awesome my Aunt used to work at Caldor plus the one she worked at had a Nathan's so I used to eat there for dinner once in a while.
My Dad use to have that first Sony stereo they showed. It worked till about Febuary of this year and the CD player just quite working all together. When I got it the cassette player was all shot to hell. I threw it out months ago. WOw 1993-2007
Man those stereo sets...the walkman is worth 20 or less nowadays...along with them boomboxes being 30 or under! It's good to know we've come a long way in such a short time when it comes to technology!
