  • Planescape Torment forever.

  • why have you called him the 'creature who hates all living things'?

  • Yes, i'm curious about the scene with Ignus as well. how did you manage it?

  • AT LAST! The only video with Ignus' final words.

  • so frikkin great!

  • thank you Crezber for uploading a new video with better image quality.

  • for the ones who will play planescape, a site with an unnoficial patch, restoration pack and tweaks, look for spellholdstudios . net on google.

  • too bad there is no audio. But thanks for the subtitles.

  • this game looks so awesome for been such old, a real classic!. im going to buy the new edition of this game, now with PC DVD ;)

  • The Transcendent one is the only character that looks cool in caps :)

  • Superb video!! Very good summary of the last dialogue and character informations, outstandig. Just the graphics quality isn't that good

  • Only 21 videos? Is this a bare-bones speed run or is it just a really short game?

  • Play the game I don't have even 21 videos besides there is no point making gameplay It would be failure it self

  • Awesome.

  • The writing in this game is so, so far above anything else in the whole sphere of interactive entertainment... it makes the story in any other game seem pathetically unsophisticated and lacklustre.

  • You're right .... the storyline was good enough to MAKE you believe this world actually existed in itself, or that it happened in some far off place.

  • I played this game centuries ago, and I was trying to remember if I had seen this ending. Then when I saw Morte confessing he wasn't dead, he just had decided to "play dead", I laughed and I remembered the same thing happened.

Thanks to the creators of the game and this video.

  • well some of us can read faster, so we don't have to spend hours on such a dialogue. If you were able to shape planes with raw power, being a mortality incarnated... would you be supple and kind? Not like TO is supposed to be such. If you went through the whole game and got to "know" the meaning of it, you might have understood and liked it better. There are those who like Sonic, CoD, Sims, and there are those who like RPG, and well, talking is a great part of an epic RPG...

  • As i always say: Planescape Torment is the best book i've ever read.

  • I know I'm going to be made fun of, but games like this are actually getting me to start reading books like Les Miserables and The Tale of Two Cities now. RPGS with lots of dialogue are like Like Hooked on Phonics for me. I'm retarded, but it works.

I'm going to play this game again for a second time.

  • This is interesting. Out of all the youtube videos, comments on several reviews, forums and other pages I've only seen two people (out of hundreds) say that this game is bad, both in this video.

It really shows how great it is.

  • I still don't get HOW this game sold so poorly.

I am starting to think that this was not just a matter of too much text for the masses, but rather of poor marketing. I for one only learned about it a long time after it wasn't being sold anymore.

  • You have to remember that it's not a game for everyone. Everyone doesn't want these miles of text to read.

I remember the first time I played it long, long ago. It was to much for me. I got lost in the Clerk's Ward knowing not where to go.

  • Well, that's true to an extent, but so many people like it nowadays... It has a rather huge following.

A pity it is now too late for a sequel - and by sequel, I mean a game in the same universe and the same development team. I don't think the nameless one saga needs to continue, it ended perfectly well IMO.

  • True but the setting is to cool not to be used again. Another story, maybe someone looking for their home, a portal somewhere in Sigil.

  • The main character was not a dashing hero or a pretty elf.

The adventures did not consist of frolicking thru meadows and forests and snowy mountains.

    That's why.

  • nah, it's because the majority of gamers seek simple stuff.

for instance: fallout 2 - excellent RPG with great story, char dev, ambience, mature humour etc. 800K sold.

diablo - brainless hack&slash with no sidequests, extremely repetetive gameplay and NO interesting characters - 5 million sold. BUT, it got a lot of items, a lot of aoe monsta kill.

    that's all about gaming industry.

  • Planescape and Baldur's Gate! These are sure the milestones of the frp world. After playing these two I couldn't take any taste from any other game. No offence but my favorite character is Minsc and Boo from BG II :D Go for the eyes boooo go for the eyesss :D

  • Go for the eyes boo GO FOR THE EYES!!! ARRRGG!

  • lol, that's from bg, not pt xD

  • It may not be Shakespeare or Faulkner, but there's actual depth to this game, and that's extremely unusual.

I keep thinking of parallels to Bioshock, another game that was a bit short on the bells and whistles and graphics, but it at least allowed the potential for someone to think about more than just "how do I hit level 20?"

  • I hear you! It offered you personally meaningful choices.. and treated you accordingly. (beyond what armor sword combo would best fit my party).

  • HELLO!

I am working on a "TOP 10 MOST MEANINGFUL VG QUOTES".

Obviously I want to onclude something from PST, but because it's been a long time since I played it, I could use a refresher of memory.

Any replies on your favorites would be appreciated. THANKS!

  • @ZenOfEmotion "What can change the nature of a man?"

  • thank you!

was that a reply to the quotes project ? - if so, it's the first one in 7 months :)

i think i'll get to it since im on vacation for two weeks.

  • This game is by far the most .. visionary in its (quite unadvertent, Id say) approach of human philosophic themes.

  • Sounds cheesy, but this is more an experience than a game. Truly a work of art.

  • Just an incredible game, so involving.

  • For those whiners who keep crying about the "too many conversations in PSC"- do you even know what an RPG is? I doubt that you've ever played REAL "Paper-Pen-Dice RPGs" with your friends for hours late at night during the weekends while munching on chips and drinking coke, having plenty of fun.

  • I really loved this game and I still love it. A very touching and sad story, and still it's brilliant. The only game (series) that can be compared to this EPICness is the Legacy Of Kain series(IMO). All these games have a dark, deep story about the hard choice of immortality over mortality for a greater good. Too bad these games won't ever be continued again. :( Nowadays' games don't even come close to these "diamonds"... :(

  • The Witcher was pretty good in this regard..though the story was kinda forgettable..

  • epic!!!

    Vahilor rulez^^

  • Hey, how do I cast spells in this game? I have my spell book with spells in it, and when I click on a few to bring it to the "cast" part, and then engage in combat, right click to bring up that circle thing showing actions and such, like spells, none of them are there!

  • tbh i cant remember! been ages since i played it..I know you onlt get the best spells right at the very end..really awesome as well they are.

  • Exactly...i mean, you might have to read and use your brain...*gasp*. Why on earth would you want to use your brain when you can also play World of Warcraft?

  • Trolls these days aren't even trying

  • yea dude i mean redin is teh hard lol :( srsly leik they shouldv made the game like teh eldar scrols oblivian 4 tgat is a good rpg lol

  • Actually, Oblivion was really good. It's a more modern RPG though, and I do really miss the old ones, such as this amazing game. But since BG3 is coming, I wonder if they'll dare to start PS:T 2 as well! Something tells me they might. =)

  • And who's they? Bethesda? God forbid they make Planescape Torment 2. They're just going to trash the game with their nauseating mediocrity. They should stick to making banal games for banal consumers.

  • They already trashed the Fallout franchise. God forbid they do the same to PS:T.

  • Developers have already seen what it's like to deal with a rabid crowd of fallout fans. I doubt *anyone* would attempt to provoke PS:T's fan base.

I don't mean to say "No one should make a game to do with Planescape" As the universe itself existed in D&D prior to the game, and had they defended their universe from B.Isle we'd have never witnessed this blessing.

What I do mean to say is this self-contained personal story should remain untouched and untarnished. A forgotten jewel in gaming.

  • Who are you to define the term RPG?

  • I am a person that knows what an RPG is.

  • Have you ever read a book? If yes, you should knew that texts and dialogs aren't boring.

  • But seriously, a book with that much dialog would be extremely boring. I only read books that are full of pictures, sentences no longer than 8 words and have a shiny 3d cover. I don't read books to read text that is at times over 30 minutes long. Goethe or Camus really did themselves over with boring books like "The Stranger" or "Faust". You can finish the books by skipping to the last page and it's read. That is not a book. Might have book factors, but a book is not about exhausting dialog.

  • I could write on and on about how this game was praised by the best game critics I know. I could reply by explaining that this game's gameplay is all about the consequences of your choice - something you won't find in books. I could then try to point out the flaws in your logic and indeed, call you an illiterate prick.

    But I won't. Instead I'll just say:

GTFO to your xbox and play halo.

  • Hah, oh the delicious irony. 15 years old and calling people newfags.

You are the cancer that is killing the internet. You are also an idiot and as such, I have no intention of wasting any more of my time on you.

So take my advice and GTFO and play some halo.

PS: knowing what 4chan is does not make you an internet tough guy.

  • What must I do to be half as awesome as you?

  • If you argue online over a game then you know your a loser

  • If you argue online over a game then you know your a loser

  • You can't say I'm a loser. Instead you can only say that you think I'm a loser.

  • @Foaroan The irony of this statement is that I'm pretty sure with all of the quests and dialogue and NPCs talking to each other, WoW probably has about as much writing as Planescape Torment (more typos though, I know, it's terrible that I know this).

Only problem is that no one reads the stuff when the shiny Exclamation Point! can tell you where the writing told you to go.

  • @CharlettMoon

I'm sorry if i gave the impression i despise WOW. I don't. It's a quite enjoyable hack 'n slash game. And yes, there's a lot of writing in WOW. However, unlike PS:T there's hardly any dialogue in WOW and the interaction with NPC's is minimal. NPC's will usually give you a quest to kill an x amount of mob y. Often, they will deliver an amusing little speech. But that's it. No moral choices, no interaction apart from handing in the quest and receiving your reward.

  • @Foaroan From what I remember in wow, 95% if the text in the game is useless and solely aims to provide a small amount of background that, come the next patch, will be utterly disregarded. There is not real incentive to read it because it's mostly boring as hell.

Warcraft 1, 2 & 3 are great. The books I enjoyed. WoW is a grindfest. The literature is just a side project and halfassed.

Torment however, well... If you want to find out who you are, you need it. So the literature has 'reason'.

  • @Grigeral

Oh, i agree. I never read the text in WOW either. You should probably just take WOW for what it is: an enjoyable hack 'n slash game. If that's not your thing, that's fine. Unlike PS:T (and the Baldur's Gate series) there's no 'depth' to WOW. To me, it's never been more than Diablo with prettier graphics (though Diablo has better gameplay, imo).

  • @Foaroan Indeed. People think this is a fault of Blizzard or the Warcraft world. Truth is, the warcraft world has a fantasic history. Blizzard are also great at using that history.

The issue is in the repetitive nature of the MMO.

There is one exception however. I played through the Death Knight start area about 2-3 time and thoroughly enjoyed it each time.

  • @Foaroan I tried to use my brain there, but my wisdom's character was too low, lol :(

  • @Mirkoyanque IIRC, you need a minimum of 19 Wisdom to get the best ending (where you get to resurrect your companions). Mine is always 25 here. If your wisdom is low, you can equip tattoos to raise it.

  • Too much fucking commenting and complaining about the game. Who on Earth would bother giving a flying fuck whether you like this game or not...

  • yeah theres alot of text but in this game thats a good thing. The dialog, story, plot and characters is all flawless and so interesting that you dont want it to end. Its engrossing not boring, and no other RPG come anywhere near close to matching its dialog. I play games for the story and characters and wish there were more games like this and Bloodlines instead of boring shit like Oblivion, Fallout 3, Gothic 2 etc etc

  • Sigh. The game is UNIQUE, you are truly clueless.

  • so you never played it. That's evident now. And I have probably read a few more books than you, pal.

  • gothic 2 = Weak

  • You've never played it then.

  • Let me guess.. you have been offended by some of the things it implies ?

  • Nope.

  • So what would you say you hate the most about it then ?

  • The dialog.

  • You mean the ammount of it or the overall contents of it ?

  • Isn't the answer obvious?

  • Somewhat...

You are saying it was too shity to be worth the effort of reading through it (especially given the ammount of it) ?

  • So you imply revolutionizing games such as Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale, WoW, Final Fantasy, Fallout and other such titles as shit. This game is a cult classic for RPG's in 1999, hell this game is still talked about and praised for in many gamer and developer circles, for the people who had the time to enjoy the story it offered. I dont want to change your perspective or anything on any game, just respect the genre.

  • You are a fucking douche. Icewind Dale, Baldurs Gate and Fallout are some of the greatest RPGs of all time. FF and WoW are not revolutionary, they are shit. I am not respecting the game for one reason, I can't respect it. What is there to respect? Dialog? Give me a break.

  • The dialog pertains to the story, what is the true aspect or attribute that decribes an RPG more, it is story. Most gamers out there dont call RPGs' a game anyways. Have you even gone through the entirety of the game, battle may not be the main factor in the game, but its story makes up plenty for that. WoW in my eyes has broken the boundaries of what is possible or can be achieved for an MMO, its scale is definitely above others. FF has continued its run for over 20 years now, need I say more.

  • RPG is a game thats length is considered above all games, if your not interested in the story then gameplay really doesnt count for much. There has to be sure balance between both. FF meant for "animefags" is that how you rate your games, by stereotypes. "Alter decisions and experiment with the game" Have you not played it, you can definitely shape the journey, and for a 99' RPG it lived up to its goal. FF7.......need I say more. Your very linear in your idea of what an RPG is, be more open.

  • I am gonna break down everything you said:

    - An RPG doesn't have to be long. Fallout 1 can be completed with all quests done in 2 days, yet it is one of the greatest RPGs

    - Story is fine, it is when story overpowers gameplay, then the game is fucked (PS:T)

    - Animefags: fags who enjoy anime. Anime fags are blinded by Square Enix, thus buy all FF games.

    - I have played FF7, nothing good, completely overated, nothing revolutionary, poor graphics (for its time), poor story, average gameplay

  • You realize that you are probably the one other person on all the PST videos that didnt like it...

Now either the two of you are right and the rest of as are idiots for loving it.. or..

Based on your classifications and definitions I would say you are a

"I gotta have my RPGs fit my definition of whats good" - fag (you used it first so dont get all offended).

I dont care if PST was a good RPG or not (according to your "competent" definition of that). coz it was an amazing experience.

  • Oh .. and if you cant respect the game asking yourself if you and your buddies could create a better one would be a good start.. Stop being an idiot and grow up.

  • your opinions are fine in and of themselves, but its childish to simply regurgitate them without making any attempts at an intelligent debate. You say you dont like games with this much dialogue, while the fans praise the game for this very reason(and its quality). thats fine that you dont like talky games, but why bash a game, especially one as obscure and barely remembered as this one? are you just seeking attention?

  • why did you go through the trouble of looking up a game you didnt even like, and then bash it in the comments section? I dont understand the point of it. Do you think you'll actually persuade any of this game's small, but loyal fanbase to actually STOP liking this game?

  • Awesome ending music

  • How do you keep Ignus from betraying you in the Fortress of Regrets?

  • For some characters you need to follow their alignments.

    Ignus = evil

    Vahilor = good

    Otherwise they betray you.

  • To my knowledge, you can't, unless you have chosen the evil path, in which case Vhailor will be the one you have to fight.

  • eternal fighting...eternal dying...in the blood war

  • Most atmospheric music EVER...

  • This way to defeat the Transcended One was unknown to me. Pretty cool, but I still prefer to beat the crap out of him. Also this way to win should' have lead to another ending...

  • The dialogue in this game is EPIC. Only Planescape could have inspired such an awesome game. Shame that WotC decided to gut Forgotten Realms for 4th Ed than to bring back good settings like Planescape or Dark Sun. FAIL.

  • playing through it as a mage was totally awesome.

  • This is the best rpg game ever produced.

  • epic music :D

  • I can say only one thing : I LOVE THIS GAME!! :D

  • a story anybody can relate to, self discovery, this game means a lot more to me than ANY game...in my opinion, the best music in a game

  • Planescape Torment is one of the best examples how Black Isle Studios finely balanced on the border between videogames and art.

  • As someone wise told me in the past "Planescape Torment is more an epic tale than a game..."

Great video - a shame that Ive killed my mortality... My Nameless wasnt very wise or intelligent xD

  • totally its like getting lost in a good book, but you tell the main character where to go, adn what to do.

  • Exactly... well said

  • Why no sound, I would've loved to hear TTO's voice :(

  • Wow this is the first time I've ever seen anything of this game and it looks fepic...

I'm getting really freakin interested right now...

  • Ah, so that's what happens to ignus if you keep him with you until the end. I wonder what becomes of Vhalior?

  • the nameless one could not atone for the sins of his first life. No matter what he did. The bloodwar, would be he's outcome no matter what. and in end it was.

  • Actually, there was a rumor there were supposed to be multiple endings, but they were cut to meet the deadline.

Though imo the idea of TNO's fellows searching for him in the lower planes could be no less than impressive, if realized right. Few games - if any - have had such an amazing supporting cast as Planescape:Torment.

  • "i wish we could fight the lady of pain"

Reason #1 that I don't want a Planescape MMORPG, despite as intriguing as it sounds.

  • Lol, trying to kill lady is like trying to kill the sun or somethin.

  • LoL looks like someone saw my post. ;D

  • Than k you so much for this, my friend you've really helped

My games is buggy all the time and i've never gotten to get ingus with me

So tahnk you very muhc for this

  • Makita is correct - the Lady of Pain is not an obstacle to be conquered, what you are saying is like asking a dying man in the desert to fight the Sun.

And TNO was condemned to the Blood War for a crime so heinous that even a lifetime of good deeds would not make up for the evil he did. This is why TNO sought Ravel's help in the first place, to live forever and evade this fate. Instead, he found one far worse.

  • I couldn't have said it better myself

  • to fight the lady of pain goes against a planescape staple; clearly you do not grasp the greater masterpiece of planescape; the fuckin game wasn't about fighting.

  • He have too much nature of the first reincarnation ,so he must continue he is destiny.

  • 'I do not need to hear your word to know your heart, Annah"

    Beautiful!

  • This game is certainly not an ordinary game. Sometimes playing it feels like reading a good book, sometime like reading poetry. But this 'game' is none of these things which I mentioned. The best way to describe it, is to say that it may be the most rewarding and beautiful of all works of art you ever touched in your life. This game was created by ARTISTS, and should be called a MASTERPIECE. It's like Bible for me. (Forgive me, if you regard it as a blasphemy.)

  • Who did the soundtrack. Its a dark ambient soundtrack isnt it.

  • Mark Morgan. He also did the soundtrack for Fallout 1&2

  • Yes it is. The name of the artists can be found in the wikipedia article.

    Mark Morgan, there.

  • "Have I? I've seen belief move cities, make men stave off death, and turn an evil hag's heart half circle. This entire Fortress has been constructed from belief. Belief damned a woman, whose heart clung to the hope that another loved her when he did not. Once, it made a man seek immortality and achieved it. And it has made a posturing spirit think it is something more than a part of me."

    Pure awesomeness.

  • This game is not good not even amazing...no...this game is simply the best rpg....Bravo Black Isle Studios. Fuck Bethsoft for fucking up Fallout!

  • i wonder if this game would be a awsome movie :) it sertently have the story.

  • Brilliant game and terrific music. I especially love Deionarra's theme. It's so beautiful

  • That's weird...I noticed at the end, in the beastiary you were scrolling through, that you have the "midwife." I've never gotten that picture and I've played it a couple of times.

  • I have heard that this was the best D&D RPG ever made.

    True?

  • This statement is full truth top to bottum.

  • it's the best story ever told

  • KotoR story was similar in many ways to Planescape Torments's story, but the ammount of dialogues in Torment was way higher and everything was way deeper.

  • Definately. The best story ever told.

  • I would say it has the best story of any RPG but I would not say it is the best D&D RPG though. I prefer BGII for that as it has a good balance of story, combat, and scope.

  • i agree, but planescape's story was only slightly less incredible. it was more purely an rpg, but bg2's pacing was near perfect if except for the dreams and cutscenes you couldn't skip once you knew them.

  • Masterpiece every RPG fan no no EVERY PERSON should play this game truly BRILLIANT

  • i HAVE to get this game!! Is it a hard? and what happens to the NAMELESS ONE in the end?? (A)

  • He banishes himself to the Nine Hells to redeem himself for all the sins he's commited in his past incarnations.

And that's the GOOD ENDING. Truely that was the perfect way to end this beautiful story.

  • Dude, don't spoil it for people ^_^

  • I hope you didn't type all of that. There is a novelization for the game you know, but anyways, I hope this makes people buy the game.

  • If you want to know how to resurrected all your friend ,and make Transcended-one idiot.

See hight resolution in this game ,and some fight with Transcended one .Watch my new-est video .Just click in my video respond to this video.

  • Had that same error with Vhailor happen to me

  • I remade "Ravela part".

    Check it out.

  • hey what's the name of the last song in this video? is it part of the Planescape soundtrack...?

  • Yeah it plays while the credits roll i believe

  • thanks

  • ive gotten my hands on it and am waiting for the right time to get into it big time, cheers!!!!!

  • one of the greatest games of all time, i applaud you, black isle......Thats it, what haunts us all.....great game....
