Why is it people focus on Hitler than Stalin? Because history is written by the victors. Hitler was the one who sparked the first takeovers, though. Make no mistake, if Germany invaded England first, then focused on Russia, we would live in a WAY different world today.

It's universally aknowledged that it wasn't the front line Soviet/Russian combat troops that committed the rapes and pillaging but rather the rear-auxillery and "penal" battalions that consisted of various criminals and "anti-social elements".
Not that front line Soviet/Russian troops didn't commit any crimes at all.
I'm not Russian just a person that has done very extensive studies on the war between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union.

and before anyone says it, im not saying either side is right; the germans had all this propaganda, thats why shes terrified. the fact that they WERE raping women left right and centre (as the germans did elsewhere) is retrospective in her case: she wouldnt necessarily have known any of that since she'd been in the bunker so long. all armies rape and torture women, its a part of war thats rarely acknowledged. in berlin it was particularly bad, for two main reasons. firstly, the germans did terrible things whenever they captured a town during the war, including rape, and it got worse as they went further east. so russian soldiers had lots of hatred to vent. secondly, when they arrived in berlin, there werent many men left to try and stop it from happening. thats what happened, thats why shes afraid.

It was supposed to show things from their perspective. Only show what the people that knew him personally knew about him. Many people in Germany that knew Hitler personally believed that the things said about the camps were all lies until after the war.

Soviet officer and other higher ranked units tried to stop it but had no chance within the whole chaos.

Also I've to say that the vast majority of the German crimes were committed by the SS, not the Army, which is not the same.

No the German army participated in their share of attrocities, particulalry on the Eastern Front, despite popular belief to the contrary, this all well documented. So really the Germans reaped what they sewed in the Soviet Union.

Indeed, most individual Russians committed the crimes they did due to three things: Propoganda portraying the Germans as monsters who needed to be slain, copious amounts of alcohol and for many, the sights they had seen in the Ukraine and Poland of exactly what the Nazis had been up to during their time in Russia. All branches of the Armed Forces committed atrocities, including Volkstruum and HJ. The war was really a case of which evil did you want to win, Nazism or Stalinism.
