What a demo! Just dig right in. Comprehensive review of the capabilities of the pedal. BYOC should give you commission, because this video is making me buy one of these kits.
This is good for Gilmour tones right? I have a Big Muff Pi NYC and I like its aggressive tone but I think it lacks a little bit of smoothness. How does the Large Beaver fair?
The problem with the russian is that it doesn't have an AC adapter. Actually, I found another pedal that I think I will enjoy more. An HBE Treble Booster. Maybe in the future I'll change my fuzz pedal.
Get a 1spot. It has a 9volt battery adaptor to plug straight into the battery slot. That's how i use my russian muff. It's good depending on what guitar you have. Humbuckers? Full hard rock tone. Single Coils? 60's fuzz. Definately one hell of a pedal.
Is that a Roger Mayer fuzz pedal I see back there? I'd love to hear that badboy. You have a solid collection of pedals buddy, I'm gonna have to break out my stash soon.
what guitar are you using with it? Also, have you played the Large Beaver through any other amps? Awesome demo, really shows how great this thing sounds.
Just built one of these myself and I really love it. The new feature, which allows you to bypass the tone stack is my favorite setting....really allows the tone to break through. The sustain will allow you to hold a note all night long. This is a must have pedal. I think its much better than the commercial version sold now. I agree, it will sound better on a tube amp....but what doesn't.
Nice shoes, what kind are they? Madden, Diesel?? Oh nice tones too!! Have you tried any other muff pedals, I've owned quite a few: black russian, NYC, MJM Foxy, GGG BMP but I'm always curious, they're all gone and I need another one!
Excellent post - Thank you! This demo sold me on the BYOC Beaver. Your distortions and the Gilmour tones were stellar.
New Muffs don't have it and Skreddy's are hard to come by or wicked expensive. The new clones even have the midrange adjustment (scooped, flat, bumped, or tone stack bypass). Seems like a no brainer.
BTW did you put this together per the schematics or did you mod something?
Hello, I am just now thinking of ordering one of these Large Beavers, but i have a question: will it sound this well on my 15W Ibazez tranzistor amp? because I don´t want to orded something great and not have the ability to use it properly. So can anyone help?
It won't sound nearly as good as it would on a tube amp, it's not meant for tiny solid state amps. You could still use it, but don't be surprised if it doesn't sound very impressive and comes out really muddy.
I would think it would work fine because it has an amp-in-the-box tone and you generally use it on the clean channel, but I've never tried it with a non-tube amp.
Uhmmm..... I have a few nice amps thank you. I like doing these videos on the HR Dlx because it shows what these pedals sound like on an everyday, mass produced Tube Amp. This amp is actually one of the better sounding amps for the money. Not everyone interested in pedals can afford high-dollar stuff...
NO Man, i wasn't dissin your amp, no way. i ment for the comment to be a reply to a guy below who wanted to use on of these pedals with a 15w ibanez practice amp, sorry man comment wasn't intended for you, i must of forgot to push the reply button. but yeah i almost bought a HRD but decided to get something lower wattage, a Tinny Terror, i also like you demo on that amp aswell
@ardie12 Nobody would have complained if he used a Blues Jr. Because those are industry loved. Everyone uses those. Just because Fucking U2 doesn't use a Hot Rod doesn't make them invalid.
What do you like? Hiwatts because Gilmour uses them?
i have a big muff from a store. for some reason it doesnt work that well when i turn the sustain all the way down its really annoying. Why is that pedal so responsive
Yeah, this clone is supposed to be better than the NYC Big Muff reissues.
I'm going to buy one pretty soon... I like the style of the actual Big Muff pedal, but the clone is nice because it's a lot smaller, and plus building electronics is a lot of fun IMO. I'll probably just paint it some kind of cool scheme.
well love your vids, brought a fulltone clyde thanks to ur vis, awsome wah pedals...amazing!. But bloody swithc broke on it lol, thought it was dodgy when it arrived from the US, so gota buy a new one. And thinking of buying little big muff, think i should for driving sabbath sound?
Its nice to see a demo from someone who knows what they're talking about.

holy crap... when you hit the A chord and rolled up the sustain i couldn't believe it!
have you had any experience with the rams head version? I'm trying to decide which to get

How does this compare to say a Big Muff with a tone wicker?
Rambo29 2 years ago
Definately here some Floyd in there, some Time and some Comfortably Numb. Well not very weird with a pedal like that :)
Foodie88 2 years ago
it can be something like comfortably numb but in dark side era was only a fuzz face

This is the first version. It was based on the Triangle.

Ooooh i think it's because you have single coil pickups and i have humbuckers so you have a much brighter tone. its really good tone too nice job

do you have a video of your whole pedal board?

Gilmour meets the Pumpkins! A must buy. Amazing how a little DIY can get you all you would looking for in rare boutique pedals.

It's a great little pedal - easy build - took all of a couple hours. Worked like a champ the first time I kicked it on...

does not sound like a big muff. It is not fuzzy enough. But it is a good sounding distortion. Is it noisy?
cardude6987 4 years ago
It's pretty damn fuzzy. More so than a distortion. :)
