Lets be careful here folks with the generalisations. As a push bike rider, as well as someone who taxes, insures and fuels a few cars, to call VED just " a tax on pollution" is simply not true. Taxes paid by the motorist in VED and fuel duty pay for the roads - and the excess goes towards many other areasy. This does not excuse bad driving however, and the sooner people give each other respect and courtesy the better. There are terrible drivers out there, and as well as terrible cyclists.
@edwowen It'd be nice to think that motorists pay an excess of tax, and that the only cost of motoring is that of road creation and maintenance. Sadly, we all subsidise the cost of motoring quite considerably. That means that non motorists end up paying towards motorists' use of the roads.
Taxi drivers all round the world think they own the roads and think they are exempt from the highway code. I go out ot my way to get a bus instead of go in a taxi, load of pricks who have no respect for other road users.
@SM4SH00 Oh, and there is no road tax since Churchill abolished it in the 1930s so little oiks like you can't claim you own the public highway. Secondly I do pay VED for my car, and I have 3rd party cycle insurance. Share the road, or you'll go on video, and if you drive badly enough you'll be seeing the police and the courts to explain your bad behaviour. Cyclists are tired of scumbags driving as though they own the road, so there are thousands of us with cameras. Shame on you.
@CyclingMikey NO TAX,,YOUR OUT YOUR MIND MATE,,ALL CARS AND MOTOR BIKES NEED TAX AND INSURANCE,,I SEE U HAD NOTHING TO SAY ABOUT NONE STOPPING OF PEDAL BIKES AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS,,MOST CYCLISTS ARE A PAIN IN THE ARSE AND A DANGER TO THEMSELVES AND PROPER ROAD USERS..THE HIGHWAY CODE MEANS NOTHING TO UR KIND SO STICK UR CAMERA UP UR ARSE......
@SM4SH00 Tax - you mean Vehicle Excise Duty - it's a tax on your car's pollution. Oh, and I do stop at red lights, unlike this James Blunt of a taxi driver. Every day I ride to work I see more motorists like yourself jumping red lights than I do cyclists. I bet you break the speed limit every time you go out driving, and casually use the phone also. You're rather a hypocrite.
Lewisham Way heading towards New Cross Road....I'm a car driver....biker ...and a cyclist...we are all as bad as eachother...although cyclists are worse than most at thinking they own the road....worse for not obeying signs..especially the stop signs...they're called traffic lights
@kenboonie I dunno, on my commute I see more car drivers go through red lights than cyclists, and much worse still some bus drivers too. They're all bad, and all should be fined, but if I had to be hit by one of them it wouldn't be the car or bus. ;)
@kenboonie apart from the cyclists are not in charge of 1 tonne death wagons. with great weight / speed / death capacity comes greater responsibility.
@marvelboyliam We do own the roads, like everyone who pays tax, be it income, council, VED, etc. They are public highways for all to use, not just drivers. I have a car, like most cyclists out there, and you're lucky we choose to ride instead of driving, else you'd have gridlock in London. You should wish for more cyclists - that'd mean fewer cars in the queues ahead of you.
Share the road my friend. We share it, but drivers with the poor attitude like yours rarely want to.
@mfcpete Don't be silly. You're wrong to expect a cyclist to ride near the kerb, as that is often both bad and irresponsible cycling, especially across a junction like this one. A driver like this cabbie simply needs to leave more space and overtake safely, nothing else.
I expect you could do with both some cycle training and some driver training.
There were no extra comments so I don't know why this came up in my subscriptions list again...
Anyways, it comes to something I read recently.
It was about "drivers perception of cyclists", and in it it said the people to SAY they would me most cautious were professional drivers in large vehicles, the least cautious... professional+small vehicles.
Bearing in mind this is what they said (admitted to), and you can expect it to be worse than what they admit...
I get very bored with people complaining about cyclists jumping red lights. All road users have a proportion who jump red lights. Why do you clowns ignore all the motor vehicles, especially buses, that go through red lights? Who is more likely to kill you if you have a collision?
There's an RAC study that showed 1 in 5 bus drivers jump the lights, and 1 in 10 car drivers. Now KTHXBAI.
Looking at it again, you are right the camera didn't go off, which means he didn't RLJ. The stop line is a long way back from the lights. That is probably why he brakes and then goes on.
Technically it wasn't a 'bad overtake' - it was a deliberate attempt to intimidate you.
Look at the angle of his taxi as he comes past you. It would actually have been *easier* to overtake correctly, but he has made an effort to close in on you.
Blimey. i thought the first pass was reasonably close (though not the closest I would imagine either of us have ever seen). I wasn't expecting the second one. Now THAT was deliberate - and it's pretty obvious he saw you approaching in the rear view mirror and didn't want the confrontation.
That was deliberate, and dangerous - report him both for the dangerous overtake, and the illegal driving through the red.... might teach him a lesson he badly needs!
He slowed down for amber, why on earth did he just keep going... I can see the stop line is pretty far back, took a few checks to look at the lights but that was a definite jump.

@SM4SH00 You don't pay road tax either you pea brain. You pay vehicle excise duty to keep your car on the road.
Anyone who pays council tax pays for the upkeep of the roads, which are damaged by cars and lorries etc a lot more than bicycles.
Try riding a bike sometime, you might not get so uptight. By the way I do own a car also.

Report it to the council's taxi licensing department.

...TfL found 84% of cyclists wait at red.. and thats in London, which is widely seen as the "wild west" as far as traffic, LOL.
I've done my own studies on cyclists and red lights. Locally its much higher than 84% who wait.

No need to report him for the RLJ. The double flash from the camera shows that has been done for you.

I suspect that's my MaxxD on flash mode, rather than a red light camera.

2 miles further on he ran again, though not through a red light that time.
