Mexican and Peruvian identity is premised on being half Spaniard and half native Mexican/ Peruvian. Though I would never deny de Valera's Gaelic roots, I am also ready to affirm his Spanish/ Latin roots. The name de Valera does not sound like a particularly Gallego name. It resounds very much Castellian (Spanish).

By that logic, that makes him Hispanic, but no less Irish- and a great Irishman at that.
