I just checked Wikipedia and there is Emirau Island (very tiny) shown. You can even make out the airstrips from that high altitude. I wish my Dad could see this. So good to finally get this piece of the puzzle. Again, thank you.
To paulmida: Thank from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to write about Emirau. I had the spelling wrong and confused everybody but you. Since your father was also there, he probably told you how beautiful it was (still is). Could you or your Dad relate any more info about this island? Thank you!
To investorism: I've seen YouTube vids taken at Ofu Island which I think was used by the US Marines during WWll.
They have an airstrip their still. My dad's memories were vivid and I even saw a detailed scrapbook that his friend Volant made of those war years. There was no combat ever fought on that island. All they did was repair the planes used by the Allies in the South Pacific region. Maybe in your travels you could ask around. Thanks.
Sorry to have to be the one to tell you this - but, being a Pacific Islander, I can say I've never heard of it. Sounds like one of those made up places ' James A. Michener ' used to write about, when his stories were placed in the South Pacific during WWII. Check, ' Tales From The South Pacific, ' and ' Return To Paradise. '
the island name is Emirau Island. you will find this on google maps and in wikipedia. My father was based here also with the Royal Australian Air Force. If you would like first hand information details i can put you in contact with him.

I have posted photos I took in 1973 of Nauru, Fiji, Kiribati and Tuvalu. They can be seen on Webshots by doing a search on "coopec100"

Fact: There are more Samoan people in Auckland city (New Zealand) than there is in Samoa.
