  • i cant get the tensioner pully off the bearing busted inside and the bolt is stuck on there still any tricks???

  • Or I could use bar for leverage so I dont smash my knuckles like I am a pro at doing -__-

  • I noticed that your truck has the same "bulb test" wiring flaw as many older GM cars from the 80s. When you crank the starter, instead of testing the overheat idiot light, it pegs the temperature gauge instead. I had no idea vehicles as late as 1994 still had that bug.

On some cars it causes the needle to become inaccurate (because it gets torqued every time it hits the stop) and in some cases it falls off. Yours seems to move slowly though, so maybe it has some dampening to prevent that.

  • Man i just want to say God bless you ive been trying to put the belt of my van for two days now, i almost burn that thing with me inside . but I found you video and eureka . You are my angel thanks for the video.Hope you win the lottery and buy a new car.

  • Thanks for sharing !!!

Saved my ass, could not figure it out.

HEY? ANyone else having a problem finding th right belt for a 1990 GMC ?? Computers & manuals say 947, or 945 (inches long) but these belts frayed to shreads and ripped the PS pump bracket off the block. REALLY MAN! Snapped off two bolts.

Finallly to avoid theprobs. I went to a 950 and everything is nice & quiet now.

THe NAPA & PEP boys computers all gave me belts to short. Using my VIN even.

    I'm so curious what happened

  • i just got a new belt at auto zone for my 99 sierra. either they gave me the wrong belt or it's a new style that bypasses one of the roller pulleys. in other words it's too short. but it works......i'm gonna try to take it back tomorrow though. i just hope they don't give me any shit about not having the reciet.

  • the tensioner was something that threw me thanks for the video. my mechanic wants 400.00 to put a new alternator. 85.00 for altenator 35.00 for a new belt. I,m saving 315.00. thanks again.

  • I think your belt is on wrong.. I have the same truck and yours, the way its routed around the PS pump looks strange.... Its a straight run from the PS pump to the alternator.

  • You're right, I'm wrong. Maybe one day when it isn't so damn cold outside I'll change it. Still works like it should, however.

  • I thought so! Just looken out! I bought the SAME belt for my 305 truck. $40 is crazy I paid about that much. I think it was $36 w/ my discount! The price of belts and hoses went crazy over the last few years.. like everything else

  • good job ya did i had to do this on my truck 3 times its a 93 chevy first time the idler pulley busted put it back together and the belt came off and busted my water pump broke the studs etc new belt was 17 bucks but water pump was 29 bucks mines a 4.3 looks like that one has a 4.3 as well chevys for life

  • Damn, you had a bout of bad luck with that truck! Glad to hear you got it back together.

  • yeah now the gauges are going bad when i stop they are acting like they are on drugs and bouncing all over the place

  • My alternator gauge does that as well!

  • does the sepentine belt effect the brakes i think thats the problem with my 93 chevy suburban thanks

  • No the serpentine belt doesn't affect the brakes on your Surburban. Some things you will want to look at is your master cylinder, see how much brake fliud you have in it. If it's low go buy some DOT 3 Brake fliud. If the master cylinder is full something else is wrong and you should see a professional mechanic.

  • Thank you that really helps

  • I just used this video to replace my belt, thanks!

  • Glad my video was help to you.

  • Ouch....yeah Napa does charge a lot.thats why I'm glad I live in a Large city (St.Louis) because we have Napa,O'Reiley Auto Parts, advanced auto parts, and Auto Zone here.Alot to choose from.

  • Sounds like the fan is hitting the shroud

  • I got the same CB in my truck also.

  • My alternator quit a week or two ago. This is how bad my serpentine belt was: it broke when I went to take it off! I was lucky though, my belt only cost $16. The alternator was $130 though. Ouch.

  • How ironic, the alternator on my '97 Nissan P/U went bad a month ago; after getting that and the battery replaced for about $250, the belt broke off after 3 days. I nearly cooked the engine before realizing it was overheating.

  • This video was uploaded on my birthday haha.

  • Did replacing it make it any quieter?

  • No it did not. What is bad is AC pulley. That is what makes the whining noise my subscribers so often hear from my truck

  • lol

  • I'm gettin ready to change the serpentine belt on my 1990 GMC sierra with the 5.7 motor. I hope its not a pain in the ass!!! LOL

  • Good lord, $40? Wow. I really need to change the one on my Pontiac, it's all cracked and dry....

  • I could of gotten it cheaper if I would of shopped around. But I needed the truck operational in a hour, so I bought it at Napa and paid through the nose.

  • Sometimes that's the price you have to pay. Good luck with it. And those Chevy trucks are tough as nails. I have a friend that has 260,000 on her GMC 1500.

  • Good dependable rock solid Chevrolet.

  • the way the used to make em ah

  • Way to go keykeeper!!!!
