  • the movie and this scene in particular scared the crap out of me

  • 8:09 returning the gaze

  • @crookedkid23 lmao

  • A TRUE Masterpiece!! That scene just scares me so much. All this back in the day where you really needed brains, first-class-acting and hard-work to make a movie; not the stupid fake-looking CGI that is today.

  • Amazing, unforgettable scene. Pure Art.

  • I remeber when first watching this scene and seeing room 773 in pristine condition I was basically like "well looks like caul imagined the whole thing, what a bummer." then caul flushed the toilet and I just "nope, definitely real, what the fuck?!" such a great scene.

  • I love the symbolism of the overflowing toilet: Harry thinks that the murder is his fault, thus he has "blood on his hands"... or feet.

  • The part with the toilet... ahh.... *shudders*

  • Murch has made this movie complete! Just sick..

  • The act of hiding in bed is so primordial. Whoever had the idea Gene or Francis or someone else, so good.

  • The sound of that scream, and the ominous piano, and the corrupted scream, and the chatter of the television, and how Gene Hackman struggles with the curtains, and holds his head and hide his face .OH MY GOD. I love this movie so much. That's definitely one of my favorite scenes in all of cinematic history. Top 5 for sure.

  • What a great film !!

bigpunholla ... i never knew Hackman wasn't even nominated for this ?? what a joke !!

There must have been some top perfomances that year for him to not even get a nomination.

  • @rafas24 I agree completely. As an actor, insanity is one of the most difficult emotions to play, and Hackman plays it so disturbingly well that it would be foolish not to acknowledge the effort it must have taken. The final moments of this film are incredibly disturbing.

  • How Hackman wasn't nominated for this is beyond me!

  • Harry Caul (ne Call in the original script) is an industrial surveillance expert hired by a private party.

This a Gem from Francis Ford Coppola that was overshadowed by the success of The Godfather.
