Just finished reading 'Out of the Dark'. Very excellent book almost all the way through...until the last several pages. After all the build-up of the story, fucking vampires! Are you kidding me! What a stupid, cheesy, half-assed ending to a good book. I couldn't believe it, I still feel duped. I just can't properly express what a sorry ending to a great book this was. It went from classic sci-fi to tween fantasy. I will never read another David Weber book ever again.
Quite interesting to hear of his beginnings and interests, his philosophy of story telling and generally to hear why he's doing what he's doing. Can't get enough of a writer that writes so well and so interestingly in spite of current trends in writing and market wants. Love the stories and it's sure great to hear his side of things. Great series, these interviews.
I'm reading the third of the Safehold Series--A Mighty Fortress, the first 2 were great. There is a strong individualistic--a Heinleinian ethos to these books. I have'nt read the Honor Harrington books yet,but I am anxious to begin.
Yes the HH and PR series are great. Very good writer. First book of HH I was addicted and could not read fast enough to get to the next one hehe. The series is very emotional. I think I have read the complete series over 10 times. In fury born was very good too. Another good series that seems to be going downhill is A Song of Ice & Fire. I'm sad that the writer pretty much killed the series with the latest book. Overall i recommend the books up to the newest one anyways..

I liked the nod to Keith Laumer, one of my all time favorites. Nobody could immerse you in the moment of conflict the way Laumer could.

Cool interview. But why not mike the Interviewer? He didn't say much, true, but it would have been nice to hear the stuff he DID say.
