Being gay is no more a choice than being heterosexual is. No one chooses what gender t they are born to be attracted to. How my marriage to another man will affect heterosexuals marriages (or anyone for that matter) is beyond me. And if it does, then that relationship was nothing to begin with.

@octopibingo its not about feeling bad, its about having the same rights and privileges as everyone else. Currently you can marry the person you love, legally have the right to visit them in the hospital and share legal responsibilities towards each other. Not allowing us the same rights as you dose harm us, its not about feeling bad and you feeling bad about me marring the woman I love is a non factor in determining if I should have the right to do so.

@octopibingo The problem is if there's a different title there's a tendency towards discrimination. I don't care much about the NAME for a gay union as opposed to a straight one, but it's like the seperate but equal plan. A system that discriminates/seperates two groups tends to build inequalities between those two.

The big problem is gays having equal rights in their union, and frankly that matters a lot more than the definition of a word.

So... Any particular heterosexual marriage will not be harmed by same-gender marriage equality. No straight married couple is going to say "Damn, gays can get married now, so our marriage is worthless and meaningless, let's get divorced and give up all the rights, benefits, privileges, responsibilities, obligations, and protections of marriage for ourselves and our children".
