another thought: maybe it all came from saying that someone is '1 bad dude!' it means of course, very very good! BTW, ramman916: Ustad Zakir Hussain and Ustad Tari Khan are both Punjab gharana.  Perhaps there would be some stylistic similarities between these artists between their disciples.
