  • Yeah - thanks for the video. Helped no end. That and a hair dryer to heat up the glue on the double sided tape.

I used a thin plastic strip (part of a plastic card) to work under the battery in two places. I then used a flat head screwdriver on the plastic strip to lever up and get the battery out without scuffing the circuit board.

Finally I reused two small pieces of the double sided tape, such that if I need to do it again it'll be much easier. Such a stupid design.

  • Not helpful, you didn't show how to do the process. What was the point of this video?

  • Thank you sooooooooooooo much, you are a hero.

    U saved my day.

  • Thanks for taking the time to do this. Helped me no end.

  • You just solved my problem. Thanx. :) And the battery was really stuck with double side adhesive tape, but your credit card trick solved the problem - with the help of a little force.

  • Thank you. I managed to change the battery without any mishaps, after viewing your instructions.

  • @daidouji: I found my replacement on eBay by searching the Tom Tom model. However, changing the battery did not stop the unit losing its charge over time. I think it is either a design flaw, a fault with individual units or the unit switches itself on in the glove box.

  • @underseaimages Alright, I'll try to replace the battery and see if it helps.

  • @underseaimages I first purchased mine refurbished and the screen calibration got messed up after repeated falls from the dashboard (until I crazy glued the car mount). TomTom Sent me another unit for free, also refurbished and the battery condition was worse than the original. >.>

  • My battery doesn't hold its charge. I'll have to replace it soon. What type of battery does it use?

  • @daidouji Please search on ebay. I bought mine for $12 including postage.

  • @daidouji Just search for "battery for tomtom 730"

  • well done - answers my query precisely

  • @technoquest: sorry no experience of screen replacement. Thanks for the positive comment.

  • keep up the good work ...can i ask you a question..would you be able to let me know the difference between the lcd screen and touch screen replacement.

    thanks

  • Worked great replacing battery in my 530. Used residue of the sticky stuff to secure baqttery so didn't need any extra glue. Battery £8 off EBay. Thanks very much.

  • Video great, followed instructions and have battery on order.

Question how do you know the battery is gone ? In that my display

all of a sudden is dark, hard to read ? hoping it is weak battery.

    Any ideas anyone ?

  • Great video followed instructions and all so far ok, ordered new battery and

waiting for it to show. Question however, Not sure battery is bad, just

hoping it is. My display all of a sudden is dark, hard to see other than

that unit working fine. any ideas ? Changing display options does not

help as it is in daylight operation now not nighttime.

    Thanks any hints.

  • Nice one, clear instructions. Thankyou.

  • Brilliant!! Just changed yhe battery in my 530 in about 5 minutes thanks to this vid!! And you're right about the adhesive that sticks the battery in.... MAN that stuff is tuff!!

  • nice and easy to understand, very helpful indeed, thank you for posting.

  • You not showing how the battery take out and replace with new one to install.

  • @hornerm5: Er, actually that is the only purpose of the video. Sorry if you did not find it useful ;/
