Thanxs for the brightest moments in my life that you gave me with your music in all those years, I am sure that you'll recover, be strengh! Thanxs from Brazil, valeu!!!
Lets all pray for the great Leslie West. Leslie underwent emergency surgery after being admitted to a hospital in Biloxi, Mississippi, on Saturday when his leg started to swell and his foot went septic. The doctors tried for two days to save it to no avail. The decision to amputate was one that was necessary to save his life. Leslie is expected to recover but faces extensive rehabilitation. We are all prayin' for ya Leslie!
Leave it to Leslie West to have the Twin Towers as a backdrop....LOL Big man, big sound...and like the others, it's heartwarming to see the WTC as something other than the site of unspeakable horrors and sadness. Thanks again.
Depper, you are a fine chap! Thank you for pulling this out of your personal archives and sharing it here. The old saying, "A picture is worth a thousand words" just doesn't seem sufficient in this case because THIS image is worth 10 million or more...not just words either, but emotions, memories, and great fun in happier times. I am not a New Yorker, but seeing stuff like this certainly makes me feel like part of the family.
Thank you for sharing your videos from the World Trade Center. As you said, this was a happier time. I worked in Tower 1 and would sneak some extra time during lunch to watch all the acts. This was the last show though, I saw in its entirety. I took the day off to be there and am glad I did. Again, thank you.
@Hildy2E You are VERY welcome. It warms my heart to hear you were there, like I was, and that you enjoy watching. This video is so symbolic. They can bomb us but Rock n Roll will never die, just like the USA! Long live Leslie West & Mountain!
Leslie's the best, guys, but I gotta say this: not diggin' the headless guitar. I just have never liked that look on the instrument. It always looks to me like something is missing that shouldn't be, you know? I guess I'm old-school with that line of thinking, but that's just my opinion.
Thank you for posting this!! Would love to see Leslie come back and jam this again after all those greedy bastard fucks stop thier bullshit and finally get started on re-builbing and get that damn monument up!!!!!!! That would be great!!!!!
They'll gather again when the new buildings are up. You can't keep America down. Thank you for sharing this personal video -- don't worry about the quality --as you said, the timestamp is far too important.
such a great song , please check out my cover if you have the time, i made an extended solo backing track that i could give you if you want. thx in advance.
Great to see this. My memories are of the full lineup playing in Liverpool and Sheffield several times in 1972 ish at mind bogglingly deafening volume and Laing throwing sticks at Wests head when he wouldnt stop showing off. A vastly underrated band.
Yeah, cant do much about the quality, crappy vcr and crappy youtube video compression, but instead of keeping this home video private, I thought this event was too important to never be seen by the public again, it was too good a show and monumental in its historic content and timestamp.
@depper thank you and I had no Idea about leslie and its good to see the trade center man what happened to music it sucks now adays man we need more mountain, ten years after, jonny and edgar, real music that matters
Saw Mountain numerous times at the old Eastown Theater in Detroit back in the day. Always a great show and some monster guitar playing. Must say they were one of the loudest bands I ever saw, right up there with the Who and King Crimson.
Mountain, and all the musical performers need to be thanked for helping entertain these people free of charge. In the unorganized chaos of New York City, these shows were a time people from all walks of life could gather under the city skis. The feeling at these shows were so special. It felt like family... New York style. God Bless the Heroes of 9/11.
I'd like to remind our viewers of the happier times in NYC. People of all ages, religions, nationalities would often gather for these free concerts at the very base of the most popular set of buildings the world ever knew. The real stars of this video are the beautiful people of New York City, who helped make the world a better place.
Corky Laing belts out mad cowbell, tosses missles into the crowd, in 103 degree heat on a steaming day under the towers. Just an incredible jamfest. Noone moved the entire show, maybe 10 thousand jammed packed sitting and standing as far as the eye could see. Crowning moment for Mountain and the crowd was jakked till the last note.
Jeezus - i didn't know that.

@depper Very sad news to hear about Leslie West. Best Wishes Foward and Good Health. Who is playing Bass and Congas?

Never could stand those buildings, but the great stuff that happened around them, like this show by Mr. West: inspiring.
Let's hope that more music and coming together can happen down there again to start supplanting our bad memories with good ones.

They used to have shows every Wednesday in the summer between the towers. Most of them were of similar vintage (Flo and Eddie, Peter Noonan etc)
