HE'S A GREAT GUY IVE SEEN HIM A FEW TIMES ONE TIME AT BUDDY GUYS LEDGENDS.I SAT RIGHT IN FRONT ABOUT THREE FEET FROM THE STAGE.WHEN HE PLAYS HE IS SO RELAXED,AND DOS'NT HESITATE TALKIN WITH PEOPLE.HE SHOULD BE ALOT MORE WELL KNOWN THEN SO MANY OTHERS THAT ARE GETTIN PAYED BIG BUCKS
I wanted to mention also, when he refers to using the Fender Twins, he is talking about using old vintage. Reissues are not set up the same. Note he does not use them himself these days opting for the Pro Reverb instead. For the record. asked if he would ever consider using an inexpensive guitar with inexpensive amp modeling stated "it would NEVER happen".
@cm0220ster When I saw him at the SF Blues Fest a couple of years ago he used two blackface Twins and a Zendrive and it sounded killer but it's entirely possible he had since changed things up since then because that was about ten years ago.
As of late he has been using a 57 Goldtop that Larry Carlton lent him (reportedly a "long term loan"). ALso from what I understand he often doesn't like to take his expensive Dumble out on the road, opting to use Fender Pro Reverbs with a Hermida Audio Zendrive instead. I believe he still uses and swears by the TC2290. His go to on the delays is 116 ms, as posted elsewhere by one of his guitar techs. He has another longer setting (under 200 ms) for longer delays, and will sometimes use chorus.
I've had my tone pot completely out of the circuit for years. Only use a volume pot on guitar. Infact, I had wished I had a good volume pedal instead of volume pot in guitar and whattaya know - that's what Ford does! He didn't mention what pups he put in - anyone know??
I have an all original 1984 Robin Ford Fender Flame in sunburst. Its one of the smoothest playing guitars I've ever played. Love the pick ups. The guitars are very rare now.
Thanks for posting this.....it's great! I can't believe the interviewer didn't ask him 'why' he disconnected the volume and tone pots???He even left a space inviting him to question it ....... Strange modification......
I never tried it myself, but I heard that knobs tend to loose a bit of the signal, so the guitar sounds a little brighter, fuller and more powerful without them. I think Neil Young did this on his "Old Black" Les Paul too.
It's awesome how he's so sincere and upright in what he says. He admits he can't make adjustments on a guitar and that he bought guitars in his early years because they "looked" ok...
And here we are, the luxury of internet getting all the info we can get, while the big guys just bought what they thought just looked OK...
All Eric Clapton followers who never heard Robben Ford make me laugh. They all think Clapton is the best blues player of all times. Ask them if they ever heard Stevie Ray... and they'll go, Stevie who?
SRV and Eric Clapton were best buddys in the 80's so yes most EC fans would've heard of SRV. But I have to agree with the Robben Ford bit, love Eric Clapton but Im no follower in the proper sense, I heard of Robben Ford through what he did with Miles Davis.
To me SRV is easily the best Blues guitarist, but Robben Ford never ceases to amaze me, However Eric is brilliant.
I mean this is Blues afterall its about the feel not about playing the fastest, you want that go listen to shitty Nu Metal
SRV and Clapton were not actualy good friends, Clapton was more friendly with Jimmy. He only met Stevie 5 or 6 times acording to Clapton's Autobiography...
Well OK maybe they weren't "best buddies" like I put it, but you say it as if they didn't get along at all. On the night of Stevie's death at the Alpine Valley they were talking about doing some shows in London for a Hendrix tribute. They must've at least got along to some extent. But yea EC knew Hendrix way better

LOL he's pratically stating Fender made a wrong guitar, with cheap pickups and pots
(me: maybe because it'is a recycled model? awful o_o)

I'm actualy talking about Jimmie Vaughan, sorry I spelt his name wrong!
But yes Eric and Jimi Hendrix were very close.
All wonderful players.
chooseyourblues 2 years ago
Ah yea, Sorry about that.
My fault, being a Hendrix fan myself I should've realised it was spelt "Jimi" not Jimmy. Still I'm sure they must've got along to some extent.
Anyway all great players like you said.
