hey bro i think you have some pretty good ideas and i was just wondering where i can get my hands on some nice music so i can Dj with nice simple beats. thank you :)
Hes Teaching How To Get Creative And Make The People On The Dance Floor Stay Interested. When People Here Transitions Like That They Appreciate It And It Makes The Music Almost Sound Like You're Telling A Story, Maybe With 2 Better Songs Tho Lol.
I been djing for a long long time. This is so stupid. Are you going to play songs with that sample all night long. Learn how to beat match put away all the Dj toys. Seratos and all the rest of that stuff and learn how to beat match there is an amazing amount of satisfaction that comes with it.
@jshpro3: No, they are set at the same BPM not pitch. The pitch faders would need to be set exactly the same % to have the same pitch, and unless they were produced at the same BPM the timing would be off. Think of the pitch fader as speed control & this may help you with your confusion of terminology. Take a look back at the video & you should see the pitch faders are not set at the same "pitch". They differ to compensate for different BPM of the two songs, so they're "beatmatched".
Those tracks ARE beat matched, WTF? Give you credit for being more creative than simply letting them play together, but you can't do what you did without prior beat matching.
@jekw1re Not really, he's just playing the other track from the start of the sample so the cutting sounds seamless. They are however set to the same pitch.
dude, this is a really weak example to teach up coming dj's to mix into another track without beat matching. people would catch that in a second in a club. it's completely different and off. just my opinion.
I don't get the people who are bashing this vid. The mix itself is obviously of a fairly rough quality, yes, but that's not the point. The point is that he's putting on display a creative little tidbit that he found, encouraging others to look for similar transitions.
@HeadkickDJ I think first off the problem is those two tunes were already beat matched. Secondly if you aren't gonna beat mix, dont call it a mix.. its a "cut" not a mix. Thirdly using auto-cue like that, there's no real differrence than just pressing a sample button. Fourth, he's using two tracks that are essentially the same (at least on that bit).
In fact it wasn't creative at all. If he had named the video "Learn how to use auto-cue" he'd get better responces.
Hello, wanted to thank you for helping people out. Not sure if this question has been asked before over the years, but I'm getting the Technics1210 turntables and have been wondering if the vinyl option of DJing is lessening. I see you use CDJs/digital. When you have the time, could you please give me your professional opinion/advice on the +/- aspects of each & what would be more beneficial in the long run. Should I look into investing in CDJs in the future when I'm better? Thank you!
Hello, wanted to thank you for helping people out. Not sure if this question has be asked before over the years, butI'm getting the Technics 1210 turntables and have been wondering if the vinyl option of DJing is lessening. I see you use CDJs, digital. Could you give me you professional opinion/advice on the positive/negative, & what the more beneficial option would be as far as using what kind of turntable? Should I look into investing in CDJs in the future when I'm better? Thank you!
the beats have to be close... otherwise youll have to cut the vocal you're bringing in too quickly or too late to switch it over right on the next beat of the original track
i cant see how it would be, obviously it would sound better if the beats were close to the same bpm but it wouldnt be essential because they are not playing over one another.
am i making sense or is it me thats got the wrong end of the stick?
They have to be close more than 2-3% difference and it sounds confusing and offbeat. Try it with your gear and you'll see what I think.
Otherwise, can't see why not beatmatch the tunes before doing this as to find a very close beatmatch shouldn't take longer than 10 seconds. CDJs even better because you can actually see the tempo so no need to use headphones, bla-bla.
mix em together without matchin' funny I do it sometimes myself, it sends a message, mos def when the lyrics are alike.. actually i do it alot!! Nice lil' lesson.
I'm glad you found it useful. If you ever have any other questions or would like to see a video on something, please do not hesitate to ask. Thank you for the sub.
Best advice I can give is to go to a local shop and try some gear out for yourself. There is so much good equipment out there, but it depends what you really want to do with it.
If I try to do this with any two songs that have similar vocals I'd still have to get them the same tempo (aka beatmatched) in order to mix the vocals together.
Obviously you have adjusted the tempo on the janet jackson track (or...in otherwords, altered it in order to BEATMATCH it to the other track).
Therefore, the title of this video is incorrect. It's creative mixing (or in other words...VOCAL mixing) but it still needs to be beatmatched!
I agree with you that the 2 songs should still be fairly close in bpms when mixing/blending. I was trying to show that by using a short sample, there isn't enough time to hear that the beats will eventually drift. Every time you re-cue you bring the beats back together avoiding a trainwreck.
I would probably just re-cue by spinning the record back and playing the same sample. Nevertheless, you're correct you do have to have them in very similar or exact same tempos to do that.
Why? I have a Stanton RM-22 mixer (not digital, or even close) and a dual stanton CD player (very basic) that I would have no problem at all doing this on. What digital features are needed here? All that is really required is to be able to set a cue point, which can be done on a $150 dual CD player rack mount unit, and a crossfader.
We can always tell the comments that come from users that aren't that bright. For some of us, we like a little variety. DJ Omega can certainly beatmatch, but he is showing other mixing possibilities as well.
nice video, good clear info... I use this same style of mixxing a lot more often then most of the people I dj with. It maybe similar lyrics, or a question and response type thing or even complementing sound effects. It's good to expand and have many tools to use.
The feature is called "crossfader start". It will start and stop a cd player that has that option by moving the crossfader off of the rail. The mixer is the Tascam X9, but a lot of mixers have this feature. Any other questions, just ask.

1) Hold your breath.
2) Copy all of these steps.
3) Go to two other videos.
4) Paste it in the comments.
If you can do all of this without breathing you're a good pot smoker :

You may be beatmatching the vocals, but it's still correcting tempo differences.
