It depends how much filtration you have in the tank. The only thing I would say is that the single tail guy shouldn't be in with the fancies. Too quick at getting food and can stress them out.
Your set up is quite simple, what kind of filtration do you have? Is it just a single external?
Anyway, I hope to get bigger tanks in the future, but with overfiltration and tons of partial water changes, would it be possible to fit ONE fancy type goldfish (no commons or comets) in a 15 gallon or 20 gallon? I want to keep goldfish again, but I'm definitely not going back to keeping 3 carnival goldfish in a 2.5 tank (I was like ten back then, I'm smarter now LOL). How have your fish been doing?
Hello again, I haven't been around in awhile, but I'm tearing down my fishroom. My danios, tetras, etc. have died for unknown reasons. My bettas arent doing very well because I followed some stupid advice of keeping bettas in quart containers (Don't worry, I learned from my stupidity :P). Once its torn down, I want to keep goldfish again (I've been obsessively researching them for awhile now).
lol two 350s on a 55? I know they're goldfish but you could easily get away with using 1. If you're paranoid about ammonia, you could just get some ammo-chips in the single filter. They work wonders.
Lovely Goldies. Do you find that those penguins keep the water crystal clear. I was thinking of a similar setup but bouncing around between canister and bio wheel. Is that your usually water condition because it looks pretty darn clean.
@llnnssccify I like bio-wheels but any product has pros and cons. water clarity comes only partially from filtration. Most people run into clarity problems when the chemical parameters of the water are out of balance , causing bacterial/algal blooms. Or they use an unclean substrate that suspends fine particles in the water column.
why do you think it is overstocked? It looks like you only have about 5, 6 fish in there. The rule is every inch of fish you have is how many gallons you need in order for your fish to live a happy life. It doesn't look like you have 55 inches of fish in there. I looks like you only have about 20 inches.
That rule does not apply to any fish that reach an adult size of more than 3 inches. I have a 10yr old 10inch long common goldfish are you implying he would be happy in a 10gallon tank? Young goldfish need at least 10gallons per fish adults need 30-50depending on the breed. Different species of fish have different needs so please don't take on a "one rule fits all" mentality to fish keeping.
I'm currently housing 35 different species of fish and invertebrates . Running 9 aquariums ranging in size from 10gallons to 200gallons and a 600gallon pond. I guess you could say I kinda like the hobby lol
I Know, at the miniute i own a tank of malawi chiclids they are lovley & bright , i dont know if youve heard of them before but type it up in google, i do own 4 gold fish too though. :)
nice tanks youre orandas are good how long have you had them and what sort of size are they i also like youre black moore im thinking of getting one to put in with my orandas
The big ones in this vid were about 7yrs old when this was taken. All of these are now ranging in size from 9 to 5 inches long. They only spend winter in doors. The rest of the year they live out side in my little 600gallon pond.
I LOVE your planted tank. Its wonderful. I've never heard of a mosquito fish.
How did you keep every thing alive when you moved? I bet that sucker was a bitch to get around. I say worth it though. I can't wait to have a tank that big. I have a bowl with a betta and a mirror for him to fight with, but I'm upgrading soon. Good luck!
My husband moved to our new address 1week before I did so we shipped the fish over night across country. They all stayed in plastic temporary tanks until the movers delivered all of our stuff. Every one survived the trip.
This was just temporary housing right before I moved. usually they stay in a 200gallon tank or a 300gallon indoor pond for the winter and a 600gallon outdoor pond for spring through early fall. Fish are like dogs there's a different type for every person. Some ppl like pitbulls some like poodles. I like goldfish, doesn't matter to me what anyone else thinks.
Hard to get a good image of all the fish in 1 shot from the front. I don't crowd my fish. This was also temporary housing for them right before I moved. They're split up in a 600 gallon pond and 200 gallon tank now.
ohh are yout interested in selling any sized tanks? even a 10 gallon i would be interested in im 15 so id have to send cash tho its just that i cant afford a tank from the store there lik 125$
Sorry most of my tanks have occupants and the ones that don't I still use as hospital and quarantine tanks. After keeping fish for 22yrs I've learned 10 gallon tanks aren't of much use. Too small for goldfish and you can't keep very many tropicals in them before they're over crowded. I don't even waste money on anything smaller than 20gallons.
actually all my fish come from situations where people either don't want them anymore or I get them because they're really sick and no one want's to treat them. I don't buy fish any more. Every thing seen here was once almost dead when I got it. Every one is good at something I'm just good and saving death-bed-specials lol.
Geez I've lost count lol I have a 600gallon pond in the back yard with 9 fish in it and making plans for another bigger pond. multiple 55-75gallon tropical set ups and a bunch of empty tanks running for when I bring my fancy goldfish in for the winter. It's a run-away hobby I've been doing for the past 22 years.
Wow. I aspire to own lots more goldfish some day. It's a bit expensive but it's definitely a great hobby. Your goldfish are in great health by the way. =)
I started with 1 comet when I was 5 yrs old and havent been with out a pet fish since. I've learned alot since then lol. You collect alot of stuff over time. And thanks for the compliment I spend a great deal of time studying on how to keep them that way ^_^
are those glass beads safe? couldn't they have harmful chemicals? do you do anything to prevent this? i have 2 goldfish with gravel, and haven't had a problem. i heard you saying they could choke on gravel. is this going to b a big problem once they are bigger?
i have gravle that my fish can get in there mouth but they have alwas been able to spit it out and they like it becayse they eat the food that gets left in the crackes, that is one of my goldfishes favorite past times lol i think you will be fine with gravle i have neve heard of a fish die because the choked on gravle i am shure t has happened but i dont think it is vary commen
That is a female betta. While she's not aggressive toward the other fish she does swim much slower than they do. I keep her separately because if I don't the other fish eat all the food before she can get any.
that's alot of stress to put a fish through on a daily basis. I'd have to chase her all over the tank with a net. It's a heavily planted tank so the net would be tearing up the plants. I wouldn't be able to avoid them because that's the first place she would hide. it just makes more since to keep her in the breeder box.
I am gonna go and get a better filter sisterm for my tank,in the meanwile untill i can move my goldys into a bigger tank.reading your comments on 10 gal pur fish i think mine is overstocked and i feel terrble now.I like to think i give my goldys the best care i can,but ive still not qite got it right.
I can see it would be alot easyer to clean having no graval in a tank can I ask how you keep your nitrate levels under contral? coz when i started with the goldys i had no real plants and the levels wassn,t too good i battled to get them down, since i added plants its stable now.
your fish are very beautiful....i think im going to get rid of my rocks in my aquarium for my goldfish because they seem to choke on them alot...you have glass marbles at the bottom right?
i dont like tank one that much tank 2 is ok but tank 3 is awesome i only have 2 twenty gallon tanks one is tropical and other is a ghost shrimp breeding tank but i love fish and love taking care of them and i am gettting another tank tommorow for bettas
ver nice tanks :) may i ask y you have your goldfish tanks almost bare?is that the way u like them or are there other reasons?i just got a goldfish tank setup about a month ago and am still learning about them.
I keep them in bare tanks because it's easier to keep the tank clean and goldfish have a tendency to choke on gravel. My goldfish only stay in tanks during fall and winter. They spend spring and summer outside in a 600gallon pond. I don't keep them out year round because all of mine are rescues and have special health concerns.
well I don't actually have a great deal of time on my hands I just make time for them because I enjoy taking care of them. And as far as money goes, well a job helps lol.
Our PetsMart (a awesome one) put their goldfish in tanks that are invested with snails for a few days. I guess they eat the baby snails. I actually asked them about it. And they said it works miracles. :-)
I like my snails lol they keep all my algae problems non-existent lol plus their fun to watch. I even drop in extra veggies just to make sure they all get enough to eat lol
No the mosquito fish are live-bearers (closely related to guppies) the betta is an egg layer. (the female betta drops the eggs and the male picks them up and puts them in a nest made of bubbles) Yes they do get along ignoring each other for the most part. I keep the betta in a breeding box only because the other fish eat all her food if I don't
I think people get too critical, it useful to look to other peoples videos for answers but all you seem to get is more questions lol. I think your tanks are very nice man keep up the good work. Cheers

what filter are you using in the first tank ?
edwardhandle 1 year ago
@edwardhandle 2 Penguin Bio-Wheel 350s. They make for 700gallons per hour of filtration and a goldfish aquarium needs every bit of that.
