  • Is this also during "Golden Week"

  • soooo much food at that festival!

  • lol YOUR just a bunch of drunken fun >.> xD ( fasts come frm all your pre-veist videos)

  • please, when u type something on a bright background add some outline to your text :)

  • I was starting to wonder where the Cherry Blossom (Sakura, yay,i know Japanese ^~^) were. I love seeing them, which there was more in Las Vegas, where i live.

  • First off, that child is freakin' awesome! Now that I got that out of the way, I am really not a party person but Hanami seems like a great party to go to. It seems relaxed. Great footage.

  • Hello tokyo cooney!!! i've only recently been watching your vids, probably due to the fact i'm going on exchange there soon. I'll probably be heading to tokyo or osaka, but i hope its tokyo. Anyway, any tips on what i should be ready for on arrival? and where should i go during my days off.

PS: great vlogs, probably one of the best on youtube.

    Aryo

  • why does the dancing child at the beginning remind me of tattoo?!

  • So where is the 2010 YouTube Hanami party?

  • are you stell in japan this year will be my first hanami

  • I'll be there this year!! March 26 thru april 6th... im freaking excited as Hell!! What do you think is the best park for hanami?

  • Would anyone happen to know the difference between "odon" and "oden"?

  • o and e lolololol

  • OMG i thought those eye patches only excisted in animes and mangas :P

  • cherry blossoms!!! <333

thank you so much for this, i love this festival...i hope i can participate in one some day T_T

  • 4:13 wtf is up with that guitar? did that guy go "I dont give a shit what it sounds like or if it's for country music I want the biggest god damn guitar you sell!" Also where is the bass guitar? And how come every lyracist sounds like japanese Karaoke Buddy Holly?

    JRock fails.

  • So do you

  • There are too many people... I think it just ruins the atmosphere of hanami.

  • I would prefer to go on a regular day, the place is full. But this is the reality of hanami, I suppose for japanese people this is normal, the real atmosphere of hanami, party all day long (and night).

  • Just WHAT do you expect for festivals?

  • what time of year is this festival? planning on visiting japan and would like to go!

  • 2:38 are you kidding ? :) or is it true ?

  • so sad for the young salaryman

  • I always kind of imagined cherry blossoms as being the pink version of dogwood trees, really.

  • Pretty! I'd love to see all those cherry blossom trees

  • I really want to see the cherry blossoms

  • The part of this video where the young man has to save the parking space... is it true?

  • Sucks for the young employee.

  • Does it snow in Tokyo? How much if so?

  • I think it barely snows in Tokyo.

  • OMGAMAAAAZING! *.* Can't wait for my year aborad in Tokyo next year! ^.^ Thanks for uploading this stuff! <3

  • i love the food there

  • wooow i really loved the foood part

    man u make me hungry

bu how much u think it will cost for 2 weeks ??????

  • Comment removed

  • One Mirrion Dollars!!! *places pinkey near coner of mouth*

  • id say like a couple grand in your pocket plus plain and stay

  • Cooney-san, You just nade ne hungrier than a mutha fucka!

I know I'm definitley going to Japan next year.

  • good job,kevin.

    I like the food part.

  • SENBONZAKURA KAGEYOSHI....

u did say to embrace ur inner nerd ha!

  • Lol, Bleach xD

  • Byakuya sucks!

    Hisagi Shuuhei is WAY cooler!

  • My favorite part about Japan is the festivels. ^_^ The flower trees seem to create a pathway.

  • plz go on with your blogs :D

  • Since I'm in between jobs right now, I can't afford a trip halfway around the world back home to partake in hanami festivities. So, I'm driving 4-hrs down to DC for their Annual Cherry Blossoms Festival this weekend!! The "peak" bloom period for this year is from 4/2 thru 4/5. That's when the blossoms on the Japanese Cherry trees along the Potomac River are open 70% or more.

It's rumored to be the single largest Japanese festival in the US.

    Have a Happy Spring.

    Cheers from the Big Apple!

  • Omg! The food looks good...strange but, good! :D

  • very nice

  • for some reason seeing a chocolate banana on a stick made me laugh. XD

  • Cooney where do u basically live? like what part of tokyo cause in ur videos u go to diffirent places and like do u live close by or do u just travel far away!?

  • Kevin lives in Ikebukuro.

  • poor dude.. waiting there

  • it is deep! in brazil the japanese descendants actually had the trees come from japan just so they could comemorate hanami. it means a lot to them =)

plus they make a mean cherry pie, yum!

  • OMG, that guy's (at 2:54) look was very funny, he looked bored lol.

    Healthy risks? XD

It looks fun, except for beer, XD

  • Well, since Ive been here 8 years what am I? Im not the "fresh faced foreginer" you mentioned in the other videos comment. But in my time here Ive realized what I already knew instinctually, every country has ups and downs. For you it apparently has only downs, which suggests to me that you are an unhappy, depressive person. Japan is no worse, probably better in some ways than other world capitals. Ive lived in NY, LA & London and feel it compares favorably. But Im not a miserable person.

  • OWNED!

  • HeadHunter? You again? Damn, quit stalking the guy. You creepy fuck.

    "OWNED!"

    I second that.

  • a man can look his whole life for a perfect blossom and never find a single one

  • hahaha @ 2:43 r you serious?

  • OMG the guy serving food on a stick with the eyepatch!! LOL!!!!

  • LOL the guy sitting there is totally like...wtf am i doing here.

  • that guy just sitting there at 2:55 really made me laugh.

  • Yeah! i get to go during the hanami season!

  • 2:37!!

HAHAHAHA never laughed so much in my life!!

  • 4:26 mhhh so Doraemon is dating hello kitty

  • aaah aaah... I wish I could live in japan. But i'm totally broke, unemployed and have massive university debt.

And if anyone says something stupid like "Well get a job then!" I'll punch you in the face... and other places too. If it was that easy getting a job I would have had one by now. Morons. Yeh... I'm a bit sensitive on the subject.

What i would give to have my own place in a quiet corner of japan next to the sea.

  • thats what u get for doing a degree in art history

  • It wasnt in art history.

  • I hear ya there man, I've been looking for a better one for a while now. Best of luck on your job hunting.

  • Thanks

  • All that food looks soo good. (Except the cow tongue, that is) I really want one of those chocolate bananas. :[

  • Hey ya, so basically I have finals tomorrow and they are super important 30% of my grade but unfortunately for me I started watching your vids around, oh say 10:40pm and its now 2:10am and usually i wake at five so i can get ready for school and catch the bus at 6. But I became addicted to your vids. They are semi educational, entertaining and have some sort of dry, ironic humor. Much love-Courtney

  • Finals are completely overrated anyways.

  • lmfao the one-eyed guy and ur comment too funny

  • That grilled squid looked great.

  • we had hanami in our backyard this year to avoid my friends' dads' employees who will be drunk by sunset with their yearly neckties tied around their heads sugata and out-of-tune singings which is funny

and we also missed the sakura petals falling all over our bentous and hair

i saved some twigs for my mom and it's now kinda wilting i hope she comes home soon before there will be only leaves left

  • when is Hanami season? I will be in Tokyo on 04/13...will i miss it?

  • Those four hours that guys sat there must of payed of good. Aahhhhh HANAMI! I wish i could go there This year, infact Its like 4 days left. Maybe i can go now insted of July ^^

Keep up the great work kev!

  • Heya, though it has been a while ago, your videos are still great in getting to see snippets of the life of a gaijin in Tokyo. It's also great to know of the 'lil eccentric bits of the culture that people usually don't talk 'bout. (Like the poor young employee.) Kudos! In fact, i'm so addicted to them, I hope they could be longer! Thanks for doing this man.

  • ur comment kinda makes no sense...

  • thanks man

  • That looks so awesome!

  • what season is the cherry blossoms in japan?

  • in the spring ...usually around the end of march through mid april is a good time to see them in tokyo - different in the south and north. the 3 times i've been to tokyo have always been during this period - it sugoi!

  • chocolate covered bananas must be good....and these had freakin sprinkles on them..... SPRINKLES!!!!

  • OMG was that a chocolate covered sausage!?! thats sick!

  • looked like chocolate covered bananas to me.

  • It was chocolate bananas.

  • oh! oh thank god... whew

  • I think Chocolate covered Sausage is a great Idea!

YAY especially if it has sauerkraut and Sprinkles. best of both worlds maybe?

  • ....... eww, maybe chocolate covered salmon

  • Those lucky residents in the Washington DC area should follow this awesome Japanese tradition and set up tons of "yatai(s)" (stalls) along the Potomac and party non-stop until the very last blossom has fallen to the ground... Grew up right in the center of Tokyo and there were countless thousands of sakura trees all around my neighborhood!! Definitely one of THE BEST times to go back to Japan...

  • rrr that poor guy who had to watch the space in the park lol

  • I heard that 花見 is very, very beautiful. I really want to see it. :)

  • damn, envy is making me greener than you turned during your Ice Cream City visit . . .

  • かんは゜い!!

  • Nice. *thumbs up* When I went to Ueno, no one was riding those boats. Thanks to you, I get to see them in action! Yayyy...

  • the dancing baby!lol,at least that's what you made it look like

and wow, that looked fun,but the food,eh,i'd have to get used to it

  • what fun!!!:)

  • there's hello kitty everywhere. EVERYWHERE! every store i walked in had something hello kitty.

  • Is there always Hello Kittie cotton candy at large events in Japan? haha

  • beautiful cherry blossom trees

  • aw i want to go to that. i'm going to the one in brooklyn at the end of april and i can't wait.

  • cool video! didn't you have any friends to drink with?

  • Wow im so excited , travelling to japan tomorrow.

I will absolutely NOT get lost trying to find my hotel.. no no.. why would that happen ? :D

  • awesome video, I'm planning a trip in fall 08 but would love to go in the spring.

Is spring really the best time to visit?

  • hard to say, autumn they have beautiful views as the leaves change color. But no heavy drinking under the trees. There are lots of cool festivals in autumn though.

  • Awesome, I appreciate you replying. I love the videos as you have really made me want to visit Japan. You would make a really excellent tour guide. It would be awesome if you were to create some sort of youtube Japan tour!

  • ...dude..its like beerfest in japan. o-o

  • Oh man I was there last week. That was nice, this clown guy was performing.Ueno park is huge.

  • haha. that looks like fun!

  • that drunk guy is hilarious!

i REALLY wanted to see how it is like during the hanami period..

    thanks for recording this!

  • Kev, it reminded me of Cherry Blossom Time in Washington, DC, except for the food, the duck boats, the partying and all those Japanese! nJoe

  • Poor one-eyed man! Of the 20+ times that I've been to Japan, I've never had the pleasure of going during Hanami season. =( If I had a boyfriend, I would SO make him row. heh heh.

  • Awe, that little boy was so cute. Thanks for the vid ^^

  • I love it. I wonder if the unmerciful climates of chicago could handle a Cherry blosom tree

  • If your not being sarcastic. They're all along the lakefront. Around the yacht club.

  • Love your vid especially the dancing toddler. Spoke to a friend in Tokyo yesterday who was heading out for a hanami party. Said it was sooo cold - around 10 degrees C. Stay warm :)

  • Ahh, looks like fun! The food looks yummy, wish I could visit during the Hanami season >_<

  • What fun! I suddenly want Hello Kitty cotton candy.

  • Amazing video! You have gotten good at this.. The music selection fit the video amazingly, like I said, you are good at this.

  • Looks like fun. Hope you didn't drinnk to much. I want to get lost on one of those duck boats!

  • Okonomiyaki and Yakisoba, my 2 favorite foods when I was over there. and random stuff on a stick, whee!

  • Oh damn, did that already start? I was hopping I would be there before it was over. Oh well. As always, awesome video!

  • Its not over yet.

  • Thanks for this! :D, Hanami looks like so much fun dghsjkdghsjkdg. God forbid America had that, kids would probably say "HOW GIRLY".

  • Good stuff Kevin, Hanami festival looks really cool, must try make it next year. You got some nice video there, captured the atmosphere. Heh, yes Asahi you cant beat that beer! especially with spicy food :) That guy in the suit was dam funny! All in all, looks a very positive and fun event. Wish I could be there

  • wow, that was great. so it seems that japanese people search for any kind of event to celebrate.

aren´t they cold taken of their shoes at that time of the nigth, with that cold? ´cause it looked pretty chillie for being spring ya know, nahh probably all that alcohol keeped them pretty warm

  • Yes it was freaking cold when I took that video. And the alcohol really helps with that.

  • hahaha, i knew it

  • LMAO! I feel so sorry for that kid waiting for the rest of his company arrive..

  • awesome vid, once again, cooney

  • Hanami ... I am reminded of the ancient Persian elixir of "haoma" used to induce the vision of the oracle.

  • Keep it up Cooney! these vlogs are really useful for me!. One thing: it would be awsome if i could see you having a conversation in japanese!!!

  • Will do one of these days.

  • looks like a lot of fun!!

  • very interesting! this one looks like it took an unusual amount of time and effort, good job...

  • Love the vlog, awesome editing! Wish I could be there right now enjoying the festivities, but unfortunately I have to wait until late May... oh well, still excited :)

  • This just made me so hungry hah

  • hah wht a conicdence me too

  • When does hanami season start? I would love to a one point visit during hanami season.

  • Hanami usually starts in the southern parts of Japan in late Feb, early March, and as the springtime moves up the country, the cherry blossoms bloom, If you went to Japan right now, you might be able to catch the tail end of the Hokkaido hanami, since that is the farthest north.

  • good atmosphere and music :)

  • That's one of the best intros ever. Thanks for showing the Hanami festivities in such an entertaining fashion

  • what is okonomiyaki & oden?

on a different subject, has there been any coverage about the japanese guy killing the british translator recently?

  • okonomiyaki is described as a pancake, with various fillings, meat or seafood. I ate one in a restaurant in my Osaka comedy tour video. Oden is any number of different opjects, usually on a stick stewed in a broth made from soysauce and seaweed stock. Usually its a winter dish and you order it per item. I think its disgusting personally, but some people love it.

  • do you know japanese? or are you learning japanese?

  • Ive been studying for 5 years. I think You never totally master a language, its always a process of improvement. Actually many native speakers on YouTube appear to still be learning english.

  • oh ok

  • Okonomiyaki is the Japanese's answer to pizza, except all the toppings are mixed into the dough. There's always chopped cabbage inside as default. Some popular toppings are pork, cheese, corn, and yakisoba (Japanese chow mein).

Oden is a kind of stew which you typically don't eat the soup. The main items inside the stew are various forms of ground fish (fried fish patties, fried fish tubes, fish balls, etc), gelatinous yam-starch product, egg, and taro yam.

  • Aww another brill video. It looks like you have such an ace life over there :)

    xxx

  • it's my dream to visit Japan during cherry blossom season! can't wait to see this in person! oh and the food, I have to taste it all :P

  • and again a nice video!! thx!

  • Sweet video! Was the food at this Hanami Festival better then your average festival food like the ones in your previous video?

  • What time does hanami season start?

  • looks like a blast :D

  • I love these videos. You were my inspiration for starting YouTube and each time I watch these videos it's like a rush of nostalgia. OK, enough with the touchy-feely BS. Can't wait for the next vid!

  • Ahhhh thanks! Glad I started you on the tube-ddiction

  • If I had to hold a spot for four hours, I'd bring a 12pack to keep me company...

  • Ahhhh.. yes, but being just lowly employees they are strictly forbidden from drinking before the boss arrives. If it were me Id bring a flask and some breath mints though.

  • love your vids man - def. keep 'em coming. They are so entertaining! I should be visiting Japan sometime in July - can't wait to go.

  • haha that guy (at the end of the vid) dancing at a tree is hilarious

  • Where do you get all that good music from?:)

  • Just had the tunes kicking around my music collection. I have a pretty bizarre music collection though. Mostly blues, but some other wierd stuff in there too.

  • I cant find those songs anywhere

  • Oh man, another great one. I'll be sure to sve myself a place next year.

  • JAPAN VS THE IRISH.

    round 2.

  • At least the youngest in the office seemed to be having fun. Were all those boxes cases of beer or something? Haha.

Hillarious comment on the thing about the food stick bussiness.

  • Actually the boxes are all used as tables. A little cardboard, duct tape and youve got a whole dinningroom table.

  • Cool. I guess th
