Misconception: big male manes are dead give-aways. That's a HUMAN assumption. ALL males, from the time they're kicked out by their fathers, mothers, aunts, & grandmas, 2 - 4, already with decent mane, they HUNT for themselves. This documentary is the worst i've seen, it doesen't tell like it is. The male lion of the pride is there primarily for protection of the tribe, he sets a territory for them and protects it from rival prides, hyenas etc. And it isn't true about him saying they only rule the pride for 3 years, thats bogus, they can rule as long as 10+ years depending on when another lion beats him in a duel and takes over. Young males usually fail in defeating the older much stronger pride masters.

Another thing DavidTheCatholic,compare a 7 yr old adult male lion to a 13 or 14 yr old adult male lion,the younger lion would win because he is faster than the old  male.The old male will gradually become and that's when pride takeovers begin. besides that lions aren't even supposed to hunt, their main job in a pride is to be a guard. however they do help out in hunting large prey like buffalo, elephants, giraffes and hippos.

You are correct, but male lions will occasionally venture from the pride and hunt (mainly at night), and Asiatic pride males hunt for them selves most of the time. That sums it up for you.

Unfortunately for you most male lions die or get seriously injured protecting their pride from other males. Plus you'd have to do a lot of walking, pissing and shitting to establish your territory. Its kinda like being a pimp except you have less leisure time. Plus almost all lions sleep for 18 hours a day because they rarely hunt when the hot sun is out.
