hey

idk if you can help me with my dance pad? the dance pads dont react in stepmania, but they do if i test them on a joystick tester.

it worked fine on my old windows computer. but they dont seems to work on my new mac computer..

if it is anything you know about. PLEASE help me.. please

@mrCLICKman Fail options are found in the game's options, so you don't need to do any behind-the-scenes tinkering. The choices for it are On, End of Song, and Off.

hmm, i couldn't find it. i guess i'll keep digging for it. it's just kind of annoying seeing it fail right when the bar goes out.

@mrCLICKman I'm sorry that I can't be of more help. I have recently had my laptop rendered useless by my charger not working so I can't directly take a look at the options myself.

i found it. i just had to edit the metrics.ini file in the theme that i'm using. thanks anyway!

how do you set "hallway" as default modifier? it's stuck on overhead. i'm using SM 3.9.

@mrCLICKman I haven't been able to put that on default I'm afraid, I just always select it and then it keeps that chosen through memory. There may be an option to keep song settings in the game settings, but I'm not sure. You'll have to experiment :)

Hello I use SM 3.9 on my Mac and I would like to know one thing.

How do I quit Stepmania if it crashes? When I launched it, I wanted to close it but the "esc" button doesn't work. I know I have to go in the menu and select "quit" but what if I can't get acces to that "quit" option?

Also, is there a way to have SM work in a smaller window and not the full screen? I don't like full-screen application I feel trapped if they crash :(

@SanatioDani There are a few things you can do. Firstly with the fullscreen option, there's both an option inside the game options that allows you to have it windowed, and you can edit it in the same way I've editted things on here. At the bottom of the text file will be the "Windowed" option. If it says =1 at the end, it will open windowed, if it says =0 at the end, it will open full screen. This is what you should do if you can access the menu.

@SanatioDani As for crashes, that's a bit more difficult in fullscreen, but Apple+Alt+Esc may help - this shortcut is the Force Quit shortcut that works system-wide for all applications, and it may force Stepmania out of fullscreen. A tip is to click the desktop or any other full-functioning application and THEN do the Force Quit shortcut (Force Quit also found in the top left Apple's dropdown menu). This will make Force Quit appear faster, letting you quit the application.

Hi! I've just installed Stepmania in my Mac but I have so much trouble with it!

I don't know how to add a song, I kinda clicked around a little and now my stepmania doesn't allow me to go to the menu and it's says Free play.

What to do? Please help!

@Mixipixi91 Hey Mixipixi, if you're using Stepmania 4 then please tell me because adding songs for it is a bit different.

I've written how to add songs from 1:30 onwards in the video. To clarify, the folder order should be STEPMANIA > SONGS > GROUP FOLDER (called Miscellaneous in the video) > SONG FOLDER (what I dragged into that folder, it was called Utitled Gabber Song) > and this is where the song data FOR ONLY THAT SONG should be. You need a seperate song folder for each song

@Mixipixi91 As for being unable to go to the menu, this should be fixable by going to the STEPMANIA folder, going to DATA, and *deleting* the STEPMANIA.ini file, along with the GAMEPREFS.ini file. This will clear settings and put them at default (although won't affect scores and songs). When you start up Stepmania again, it will create these files again. That should help :)

I dont get any of this at all.

i click songs on stepmania website. When I download the song pack and i try ti click on it it says safari cannot open the fire because there is no available application to open it with. So im suck on step one i guess. Please help

Mac OSX doesn't innately have anything to open RAR files, nor smzip, which are the two types of files I'm assuming you're having a problem with; with both are two solutions :)

If it's an smzip file, use +i on the Smzip file to bring up the Get Info box, then under "Name & Extension", making sure Hide Extension is unchecked, change smzip to zip and press Enter; when the message comes up, choose the "use .zip" option; then you can open it as normal and use the folder like you normally would :)

For RAR, download the application named UnRarX (should be free), when you've downloaded it you should be able to extract the RAR file into a folder by opening it with UnRarX.

I did everything up to extracting. And then the RAR thing says, "/Applications/StepMania/Songs­/Songs_StepMix1_KreeTsukiisa_C­astlesinTheSky.zip is not a RAR archive

You need to create a Group Folder inside Songs, then a Song Folder (with all the song data) into the Group Folder. Stepmania won't recognise songs above or below that exact level.

In that case it won't work. The data required is the mp3/wav/ogg, .sm file and background/banner/animations(o­ptional)

I used stuffit expander to do the zip file thingy-ma-bob and i got all the files etc. I put them into the songs folder like you did and its not working D:

my folder goes as so - Songs > "Test Songs" > Lucky Star OP > Songs_SampleSongs_Jubo_LuckySt­arOpening.smzip > Songs > Sample Songs > Lucky Star OP (which has all the files downloaded) .

It came like this.. so I dont know. I did add one folder to see if it would work , but even before i added the folder it didn't work. Please help D:

Smzip files are like that so it's completely fine :)You can just move all the songs in the "Test Songs" folder, because that's where all songs are supposed to be :)It goes as such:

Songs Folder

-->Song pack Folder

----> Individual Song Folders; this is where the folders should be

-------> Each song's files

Under this, nothing else will be recognised, & if you put song folders on the same line of the song pack folders, they won't be recognised either.

If you put it in this order, it'll work :)

ok i did that.. heres what happened.

I go into stepmania, it still says i have no songs. I go into the options menu and click "reload songs" . As its loading it says I've got the Lucky star folder and the song, but when i go back to the start menu it still says in the corner "0 songs" etc. I tried playing it but i had no songs at all so all that was there was "roulette". Sorry to bother you about this by the way :(

In the case of Mac OSX at least, nothing. The software has someone to open them automatically :)

I'm not too sure anymore about Windows but I think they've got an archive expander...if not WinZIP works just fine and you can get a free demo of it.

i downloaded a song... an individual song.. the format is smzip. , what do i have to do with it then? do i have to make another folder? i tried to insert it to the song folder and it doesn't work...

Select the smzip extension, then just take out the sm (leaving the extension as zip); when prompted choose the "use .zip" option, and just unzip it and your done :)

so if i just drag in ddr songs into the song folder are they automatically installed? the songs are already in the game then?

Yup :) But you have to make sure songs are inside a group folder, like this:

Songs -> Group Folder -> Song Folder -> necessary files

If you already had Stepmania running when you put the files in then go to Options and "Reload songs/courses" and they'll be there :)

Do you know how to get different themes to work on Stepmania 3.9 for MAC OS X?

Same method as putting songs into Mac OSX.

Just place the folder containing the theme's data into the Themes folder.

You have to be sure to check what version the theme is; 3.9 themes for Stepmania 3.9, 4 themes for Stepmania 4, etc.

When you restart Stepmania the new theme should appear under the options. You can also manually choose your themes (when Stepmania is CLOSED) by opening GamePrefs.ini in the Data folder. Just write the folder name of the theme in the correct location and tada :)

I tried it all, and made sure the themes were for 3.9, but even if I select the correct them, the basic SMAX 3.9 theme still shows up. How do I force it into another theme that is not SMMAX?

Going into the Data folder and opening GamePrefs.ini (with TextEdit) and changing the theme that you see there with the name of the folder containing the theme (e.g. if the folder is called "ITGtwo" then that's what you should type). This will force Stepmania to try and use that theme.

If that doesn't work, then the theme either works but the actual theme is in a different version, or something is wrong.
