I slightly disagree with you because I do think that in some ways reality TV shows such as X Factor or Britain's Got Talent are good because they provide an easily accessible platform for people who may not get such an opportunity anywhere else. However, as a person who has once auditioned for such TV shows (I know, I have paid my dues) I think that it's a very controlling environment to perform in (ie. you don't pick the song you sing etc) and you may not get the result that you want.
@TheHannahV Precisely! Because they are produced for entertainment the entire show and their contestants are controlled and manipulated to appease a formula that entertains the public. Whilst yes, some performers are always going to do better than others because of these platforms, I think, ultimately, producers care more about the money and publicity the show makes rather than the quality of the show and it's acts instead.
Another thing about academics not being important...most of the actors here at the school I'm at say part of the reason they want to act is so they don't have to do real 'work' and such. I feel like actors HAVE to be smart and do a lot of research if they really want to understand a play, or even just their role.
@LordJackal Oh completely! Acting is a job and to be successful at it you have to work hard, even harder than someone in a 'regular' job perhaps. No one should enter the profession lightly, and they'll find out how much work it is very quickly.
Yeah I think a lot of young people today are becoming fame hungry without actually knowing what talent they want to show off. I do think that the people who entered the first series of Big Brother didn't know they were going to become famous, so they were more natural. Now it's become a quick shoot to temporary fame. Great video!
I never thought about Big Brother but that does make sense - you can instantly see how different the 'type' of people are that originally went on the show against the participants nowadays. Thanks so much for the comment Laura!
i think its fair to say that when you really enjoy singing and acting you take whatever opportunity you can for a chance. Not everyone can afford to attend the drama colleges that most soapstars are found in, or the musical theatre academy's that give you the leg up into the business. Interesting opinion though x
Very fair point. However with talent shows like these you'll notice that most finalists (but not all of course!) are those who have indeed been trained at drama school. With letting everyone get a chance to audition, these shows are positive in that sense :)
im auditioning for Over The Rainbow next month, i'm only 16 and haven't had professional singing lessons in over a year, ohh dear. But i'm not doing it to become famous, I don't really have any aspiration to join showbiz, i'll leave it for the professionals, like you said! i'm just doing it for the fun, i was told that I could sing so hey lets see what it can do for me. Love this video, you have really great debating skills and can put them across in a really intellectual manner :) x
Thank you Grace! I hope you enjoy going up for it and I wish you the best! Why not indeed? It's always good fun to see how television shows such as these are made and managed from behind the scenes :)
Yeesssssss!!! I saw my name at 3:51 and that cheered me up. I subscribed to you because you are very talented. I am impressed as to how well you speak to us in front of the camera and you talk with no interruption. I can see you have this natural talent towards becoming an actress. I think you should have more subscribers because you are so good at providing the information and speaking it directly towards us in a way that keeps our attention.
Aw thank you so much for such a lovely comment! Although I don't want to be an actress I do want to be invovled in that industry :) And thank you again for subscribing!
hahaha i guess maybe if u were a singer like me ud probly like the talent ones and want to enter them like i do... like im auditioning forthe dorothy one soon..but i wouldnt want to be on the hills or anything like that... :) thanks for commenting on my video :) xx
I completely agree Olivia! I get really annoyed too when I hear people talking about how they think they'll be on a reality TV show like The Hills and become mega famous. They need a reality check instead haha
I also hate when people say that an actor, singer, etc. has become successful overnight. Take one look at their IMDB, resume, or anything and it'll tell you otherwise.
I'm definitely gonna make a video response to this because I feel quite strongly about it to, but just wanted to write and say I LOVED the bloopers =P
