  • 20k for the swap?! Holy shit what a waste of money, if I had 20k to put into an exige engine i could do a lot better than 280hp. Sure the stock transmission gets wary at 250ft-lbs (which is still enough to break 300hp and has been done) but you can swap to the e153 for under 5500, thats a huge savings and a swap to a notoriously stout gearbox from Toyota. There are supercharged 2zzs putting out over 300 easily, and turbo 2zzs like Monkey Wrench Racing's putting out over 500 why put a GM box in?

  • All these silly tweaks makes me wonder why the hell they wanted to bother with perfection. Many Lotus owners wish it had more HP once they get used to its insane handling but the Lotus is a low price, low weight sportscar. Not a supercar. Once you start adding shit to it, it becomes too expensive for what it is.

  • Y didn't they just put a 3sgte in it ......

  • Hello! Lotus design this motor for GM to use in this chasis and put an Opel badge on it. Then for the Elise it was cheaper to put the Yamaha (Toyota) motor than manufacturer their own motor. Those tire sizes aren't too wide the wheels are just too tall.

  • This car looks Great in my garage but the Tires are unrealistic huge. @_@

  • cool !

  • i think any concidering a lotus would be a fool not to look at the Ultima GTR

  • pretty freakin' lame to pay that much for a car, and then find that your tires rub on the fenders.... what a joke!

  • THEY PUT GM PARTS IN IT ????? And expected it to be an improvement ? Madness.

Americans always "tune" european sportscars. Factories spend years of professional testing to get it just right and some tuneshop comes along thinking they can do better. Granted the Elise / Exige can do with a bit more power but usually its better left alone. The concept of the Elise as a performance vehicle doesnt work in USA. its lightweight 1,8 litre engine. It wasnt made for burnouts or straight lines.

  • @Janusha Wait really? GM parts in a Lotus? But didn't Lotus design the Ecotec wait they did so I guess the Lotus is finally complete with 100% British engineering with this conversion.

  • first off, this was a retarded idea... you couldve used a more powerful engine to put in there, not one that is nearly the same as the original

  • the Ecotec has way more tuning potential than the 2zzge. This car wasn't properly sorted before the test.

The biggest limiter when you start making a lot more horsepower is the transmission, it breaks :( especially with sticky tires.

  • Lotus motorsport division are the best people to do this work... just contact the factory... wheels rub on the fenders (wings British English) mmm oh dear!

  • I bet Lotus would love this video. Proof that even with massive investment, you can only do slightly better than their in-house tuning. Nice to know they put all the parts on the car to make it nearly as good as it can be straight from the factory.

  • how/why would Lotus manufacture the car if the tires are rubbing up on the fenders!??

  • Lotus did not make it like that. Some bell-end by the name of Secunt dicked with it, fuck it up, and there you have it!

  • This video is not about the stock Exige.... Hello? Can you read the title...and listen to the narrator..

  • the lotus original tires, from yocohama are made specially for the elise.. they would never touch the car.. these ones were added to the car by this company Secant that changed some parts of the car from the original ones..

  • how much these mother fuckers cost

these mother fucker gonna fuck all my money

  • My 06 lotus exige gets about 33 miles per gallon with a 10 gallon tank, yeah, pretty freaking good seeing it how it's 0-60 almost as fast as a 500 hp Viper.

  • thats why we love Lotus =D

i kinda wish they made a electric elise.. it would be awesome.. no pollution, no fuel costs and even more spectacular acceleration!

  • they do it is called the Tesla, it's made by and designed by Lotus (except the powerplant)

  • the Roadster is not even a Lotus.. they don't even sell it in Europe.. And also lots of cars are designed and engineered by Lotus.. Which doesn't make them a lotus..

Lotus has one of the best design and aerodynamics engineering teams in the world, so they are quite requested..

And they ARE going to make an electric elise.. they said it on a press release, and they said we shouldn't expect anything less than the best electric car in the world =D.. we can only wait =D

  • I agree with you, but the Tesla is coming to Europe and no it's not a Lotus but it is made by them and shares the famous aliminium extruded tub. If you take a tour of the factory you will see the Tesla production line. Lotus engineering, you are right, are world renown and they do suspension work for Aston Martin, and countless others, they are well placed to do a great electric car when the Tesla company develop the power train I woud imagine.

  • I am going to buy one soon.

  • looks like a tampon

  • shut up you yank twat! Go fuck your sister and brother you gay cunt!

  • i know that car is awesome, you know that car is awesome

i know it takes a lot of gas, you found out it takes a lot of gas

you're regretting the gas prices, i laugh

  • its a 2 liter how much gas could it burn lol....theres snowmobiles with more power lmfao

  • gas is gas is money is a lot of money

  • its a friggin 2 liter lol has to be excelent on gas

  • sieriously!!!!!!

  • I would rather buy a Vete Z06 for less money.

  • yank twat! Go fuck yourself and your mother!

  • Pretty easy swap considering this platform was already produced using this engine, Opel Speedster.

  • omg it sounds soo cool and smooth

  • it has a japanese engine, not an american. much like an toyota mr-s, nonetheless, awesome!

  • beacaues xsenor has driven a shelby be4 right? pff get scraped kid

  • xsensor shut the fuck up

  • id rather get a regular exige/elise

  • "cannot" does not show as an error by mac spellcheck.

  • What's Wrong with the K car??

  • Cool video.

    I love Lotus.

  • xsenor, you are delusional. You also do not have a grasp of the English language. You are truly american.

  • pfff haha. go with a shelby. unless ur dad buys it for u

  • a shelby will get smoked by anything else that costs as much as it does.

  • Xsenor, I don't understand the word you use ---> "prolly". I don't assume anything, my feelings about american cars come from facts. Please explain the ghetto-term "prolly", I was raised in an educated English speaking family, so I don't understand that ghetto word.

  • prolly is an abreviation for "proabably"

everyone uses it. im sorry if ur not smart enough to figure that out.

im from a proper speaking fmaily too and i hate people who speak in constant slang.

but the internet and youtube is totally different. if you can not see the futility is usign correct grammar on the internet you are a serious dumbass. u are prolly a liberal too, judging by ur narrow mindedness

  • For the American market they need to put a lightweight V6 in that one. It needs more speed on the straights and the chassis can handle it. There is a company in Germany that puts v6 in them and sell them as their own brand. Originally the Elise had only 118 bhp.

  • american muscle? More like limp and infantile american penis!

  • u prolly assume all american cars are shit? u have to honest be fucking retarted is u beleive that. sure some are bad, but there are many that are working and popular from the 1950s and earlier. and american cars today ar still superior than other foreign brands in many areas.

but ur prolly an ignorant fuck who just generalizes everytihng

  • jksndwh heduh jheu jehd7ue heiuhdu jeuu uusjhwqpmn iqlaòè jshsham!!!!

  • No thanks, I will stick with my Toyota powered Exige. No american junk engine for me!

  • mad cuz nothing can beat american muscle?

  • everything can beat american muscle lol.

  • thats why the zr1 is setting the same times as a gtr and is destroying other cars like bmw

  • and thats why a zr1 is 100k compared to a 70k skyline and other cars like bmw

  • 91k? holy. I rather get a GT-R with that.

  • u save gas for the long run throu

  • First of all, the $91K includes the price of a new 2008 Exige S240. The SECANT Type 1 is based on a 2006 Exige with a N/A motor that retailed for around $55K. The conversion makes sense for Elises and older Exiges. Buy a used one, install the Type 1 package and you have a giant slayer. Regarding the wheel rub, the car they tested is a prototype - remenber? So the production cars will be dialed in properly.

  • 91k includes the price of a 2006 exige... they put an extra 10k worth of crap on that car which is what pushed it to 91k

  • woah nearly £45K for a lotus exige? sheeeeeesh

  • 91K even in dollars thats far too much. Sorry Yanks - leave the tweaks to your own muscle cars and the true mechanicals to us brits. You have made this car worse not better lol lol lol

  • No price is gay for this car, major!!

  • fast car saw one on pinks it beat a mclarin on 1/4mile good car not all that good styling

  • hmmm nissan gtr or secant exige... choices choices haha

  • i know what you mean!

  • for the money no way, nice car but there are better fish in the sea.

  • It needs more HP.... not even 300

  • u dont know shit. do u know how much this car weighs? 300 hp is what a 3000 lb vehicle needs to move quickly. a lotus needs much less hp b/c it weights much less. most noobs like u think "o think car has low hp, im not impressed"

  • and you forgot to mention to those noobs. this cars is made for turns.

  • That's because they all played Forza. Seriously? 873hp in an Opal Speesdter? 736hp in a Porsche 550 Spider??? That car is 1244lbs!

  • All I'm saying is that you could easily put more HP in the engine. BTW yes I know a lot about cars and the lightweight Lotuses.

  • dont worry, i didnt expect mexican to be intelligent anyway

  • seriously I don't want to discuss with you; BTW I'm not mexican; I'm Puertorrican, which technically is part of the US

  • Secant must suck if it can't even get tire clearance right.

  • dam i'd rather get a nissan skyline r34

  • NO thanks. with that price ill get a new GTR

  • UR SO RIGHT

  • Sounds nice, but I would stick with the stock Elise S.

  • Me too.

  • woah the price isnt worth it.

    i like the sound

  • it looks kool but i woudnt buy it 4 that price over here in england u can buy 15 rolls-royce's on ebay 4 that kind ov cash

  • the tires scrub the fenders? umm you'd think someone would have noticed that before

  • just a moment, the title of the video is misleading. It should be "lotus modification underwhelms". Why take a perfectly well-balanced car, and then ruin it?

  • sweet engine sound <3

  • Looks and sounds amazing! The whine of the supercharger is awesome! 93 is fine for us here on the east coast. But why put such large wheels on it? 90k as a price tag is quite steep too.

  • THATS A SICK CAR!!!!!!

  • FREAKING BEAUTIFUL
