20k for the swap?! Holy shit what a waste of money, if I had 20k to put into an exige engine i could do a lot better than 280hp. Sure the stock transmission gets wary at 250ft-lbs (which is still enough to break 300hp and has been done) but you can swap to the e153 for under 5500, thats a huge savings and a swap to a notoriously stout gearbox from Toyota. There are supercharged 2zzs putting out over 300 easily, and turbo 2zzs like Monkey Wrench Racing's putting out over 500 why put a GM box in?
All these silly tweaks makes me wonder why the hell they wanted to bother with perfection. Many Lotus owners wish it had more HP once they get used to its insane handling but the Lotus is a low price, low weight sportscar. Not a supercar. Once you start adding shit to it, it becomes too expensive for what it is.
Hello! Lotus design this motor for GM to use in this chasis and put an Opel badge on it. Then for the Elise it was cheaper to put the Yamaha (Toyota) motor than manufacturer their own motor. Those tire sizes aren't too wide the wheels are just too tall.
THEY PUT GM PARTS IN IT ????? And expected it to be an improvement ? Madness.
Americans always "tune" european sportscars. Factories spend years of professional testing to get it just right and some tuneshop comes along thinking they can do better. Granted the Elise / Exige can do with a bit more power but usually its better left alone. The concept of the Elise as a performance vehicle doesnt work in USA. its lightweight 1,8 litre engine. It wasnt made for burnouts or straight lines.
@Janusha Wait really? GM parts in a Lotus? But didn't Lotus design the Ecotec wait they did so I guess the Lotus is finally complete with 100% British engineering with this conversion.
Lotus motorsport division are the best people to do this work... just contact the factory... wheels rub on the fenders (wings British English) mmm oh dear!
I bet Lotus would love this video. Proof that even with massive investment, you can only do slightly better than their in-house tuning. Nice to know they put all the parts on the car to make it nearly as good as it can be straight from the factory.
the lotus original tires, from yocohama are made specially for the elise.. they would never touch the car.. these ones were added to the car by this company Secant that changed some parts of the car from the original ones..
My 06 lotus exige gets about 33 miles per gallon with a 10 gallon tank, yeah, pretty freaking good seeing it how it's 0-60 almost as fast as a 500 hp Viper.
the Roadster is not even a Lotus.. they don't even sell it in Europe.. And also lots of cars are designed and engineered by Lotus.. Which doesn't make them a lotus..
Lotus has one of the best design and aerodynamics engineering teams in the world, so they are quite requested..
And they ARE going to make an electric elise.. they said it on a press release, and they said we shouldn't expect anything less than the best electric car in the world =D.. we can only wait =D
I agree with you, but the Tesla is coming to Europe and no it's not a Lotus but it is made by them and shares the famous aliminium extruded tub. If you take a tour of the factory you will see the Tesla production line. Lotus engineering, you are right, are world renown and they do suspension work for Aston Martin, and countless others, they are well placed to do a great electric car when the Tesla company develop the power train I woud imagine.

Xsenor, "cannot" is two words, unless you put it this way-->"can't". Also, "noooo" has only one "o", not four. Now, who is the "dumb fuck"? One other thing, the subject matter here is the Exige having a very lame american engine. It's clearly evident Secant knows nothing about improving upon a perfect car, but they sure know how to ruin a perfect car. I would have to wager, you don't even own a Lotus. I, however, do own a 2006 Exige. I can only guess that you probably own a reliant K wagon. Yes?

you are dumb fuck. you still can not grasp the idea of using abbreviations on the internet. i knew you were unintelligent by your profile, but the fact you still cannot grasp the idea of the futility of proper grammar on the internet, simply astounds me, you must be very very narrow minded and have noooo common sense whatsoever

First of all, the $91K includes the price of a new 2008 Exige S240. The SECANT Type 1 is based on a 2006 Exige with a N/A motor that retailed for around $55K. The conversion makes sense for Elises and older Exiges. Buy a used one, install the Type 1 package and you have a giant slayer. Regarding the wheel rub, the car they tested is a prototype - remenber? So the production cars will be dialed in properly.
91K even in dollars thats far too much. Sorry Yanks - leave the tweaks to your own muscle cars and the true mechanicals to us brits. You have made this car worse not better lol lol lol
u dont know shit. do u know how much this car weighs? 300 hp is what a 3000 lb vehicle needs to move quickly. a lotus needs much less hp b/c it weights much less. most noobs like u think "o think car has low hp, im not impressed"
just a moment, the title of the video is misleading. It should be "lotus modification underwhelms". Why take a perfectly well-balanced car, and then ruin it?
Looks and sounds amazing! The whine of the supercharger is awesome! 93 is fine for us here on the east coast. But why put such large wheels on it? 90k as a price tag is quite steep too.

first off, this was a retarded idea... you couldve used a more powerful engine to put in there, not one that is nearly the same as the original
wounsel 2 years ago
the Ecotec has way more tuning potential than the 2zzge. This car wasn't properly sorted before the test.
The biggest limiter when you start making a lot more horsepower is the transmission, it breaks :( especially with sticky tires.
