Just saw this play done live at our local theater. It was a small, intimate setting w/ only about 64 seats. The play was magnificent and very touching. there was a lot of laughter as well as tears. Blew me away. Hope I can see this movie sometime to compare the two.
That struck me as funny (but ironic in a sad way at the same time) when the Dr asked her if she was in pain, and she said "I can't believe this." to the camera. LOL It was the wit she was known for but at the same time, sad and ironic knowing that medical personnel ask stupid, obvious questions like that to patients all the time. GRRRR!
I guess they become that way, having to see people die and suffer, day in day out. For some people I guess there is a time where you just can't care any more. And then they ask stupid questions, as a sort of reflex. They should remember that everyone deserves some compassion and understanding when they are dieing, or in pain.
Well, I lived with my Brother and girlfriend and she was studdying to be a nurse. She was very cold and told me that I was useless (I'm disabled) and I told her that she left her heart and mind at the door.. she would have to take care of all kinds of people.. Even someone like me. If she has that attitude then she is in the wrong job.. I hate people like that.
I can follow you on that one... I am a nurse student too... And some of my classmates are like you brother gf... And I m thinking then: Why on earth do you want to become a nurse then if you're not able to care for sick people...
I mean it's not only enough to do the medical stuff and all... But you also as Vivian says to Susie when they eat the ice... You have to read between the lines...
I can't wait to become a full nurse and help people who needs help :-)
Tomark, ease up .. the sad truth is that too many doctors never had one .. and those who do end up needing to thoroughly anesthetize their hearts and minds when facing untold amounts of human misery such as you and I will never see. They end up coming off as tough and heartless as you might think them to be .. some ultimately really are cold, but not all.
@tomarkenfan83 ...When my Father was told he had 2 months to live. I was in the room in agony. The doctor said it like he was reading a grocery list. I know it is a part of life and therefore inevitable, however, they, most of them, lack compassion. Four years later the pain is still unending.
@tomarkenfan83 but you have to understand, that Vivian is a very professional person. the point of Jason (the doctor) being so freaking uncaring is that by the end of the play (it was originally a play, then it was made into a tv movie) Vivian realizes that she has been treating people like Jason does, and that it's no way to treat people.
Please tell me there's no such thing as a doctor who could be so cold in real life :(
