its weird if you look at Chinese interpretations of what "lions" are supposed to be like in ancient art they actually look a lot more like Chows to me in the face and body characteristics. the story goes a demon came to an area and every animal fought it and lost except then a lion came and defeated the demon. it makes more sense contextually if it was a Chow hence dogs mans best friend/ protector n all idk just a theory.
