@ekian111 Bioware has said several times that they are making this game as a great starting point in the mass effect series because the start of the war is beginning. They aren't amateurs, so you won't be completely lost if you start from the third. So to answer you question yes you can start here and still have a good time. I would still recommend playing the first two. They are great games and it will give you something to do instead of anxiously waiting (like me) for the next four months.

Also, your character from the first game is transferred to the second, and your character from the second will be transferred to the third. Plus, you can lose friends depending how you play in the 1st and 2nd, and that impacts the 3rd
