I'm stronger in the DB bench when i kind of "crunch up" and then throw my head back when I press up. It creates somewhat of a "spring" for me. (I'm not comfortable doing this with barbell bench for some reason, though.)
And no, lifting your head 2 inches off the bench isn't going to place too much strain on your neck...unless you're an 80-year-old women with osteoporosis!!
