  • because shes not reading from an autoque

  • that was a tough year, because 3 of those 5 nominees just happened to give incredible performances. Joaquin and Heath were also both equally deserving.

  • Philip seymour hoffman and daniel day lewis are the best actors working today

  • he kissed Meryl Streep at 1:45 ??

  • Heath Ledger, so alive!

  • omggg seeing heath ledger made me sad :( miss him <3

  • congrats phillip your performance in capote was great, but I really wish Heath Ledger had won <3.

  • amazing all this performance , it had to be hard to decide the winner

  • HEATH LEDGER!!!

    HEATH LEDGER!!!

    HEATH LEDGER!!!

  • Had the honor of meeting him once, really cool guy.

  • SO DESERVED !!

  • R.I.P Heath Ledger. Your performance in brokeback mountain is one of my favourites of all time.

  • @TheCanucks12345

    agreed.

  • Thumbs up if you thought Heath should have won

  • JOAQUINNNN was amazing in walk the line

  • i think hoffman would be perfect for playing elton john in a biographical movie

    if they ever made one.

  • i think hoffman would be perfect for playing elton john in a biographical movie

    if they ever made one.

  • @andyslashedrose221 elton john has always wanted robert downey jr. to play him if there ever was a biopic. but yeah he wud be good too. :)

  • @andyslashedrose221 yeah i also think of that yesterday when i see the ides of march

  • Heath deserved this award more.

  • @bonnertom032 Nope.

  • @oasisforever00 Eh, I love Hoffman, but Ledger gave the better performance.

  • Yeah Dusty!!

  • that was one good year for leading actors nominees. they were all good!

  • ''I just sharted''

  • It is amazing that she won 2 Oscar !

  • Hoffman is such an amazing actor! He can go from playing a funny character (Along Came Polly) to a serious character (Capote) with such grace and ease. In a land full of talentless celebrities, he's one of the true actors! Amazing.

  • Heath Ledger... He would just win later...

  • really happy he won but Joaquin Phoenix should have definitly won! <3

  • I'd try to kiss Meryl Streep as well. haha

  • Phillip Seymour Hoffman is such a great actor, totally deserved this award, and I totally want to bang David Straithairn.

  • I don't care what people say, Hillary would get it!!

  • I like Philip Hoffman, but I thought that Joaquin Phoenix did a better performance.

  • Apparently Phillip Seymour Hoffman kisses everyone on the lips.

  • Heath's face is suicidal...

  • Look at Heath Ledger. Handsome as always. What an amazing human being.

  • Joaquin Phoenix should have won for being Johnny Cash

  • I don't recall a time wherein i saw a movie with Philip Seymour Hoffman and didn't like it.

  • and uhh...

  • R.I.P. Heath Ledger

  • R.I.P. Heath Ledger!!!

  • lol, Heath Ledger gave the joker esque clap at that reveal of best actor.. sorta.

  • it must have been tight between hoffman and phoenix, i still think Ralph Fiennes should have been nominated instead of Terrence Howard.

  • @whitley4ever I think it was between Hoffman and Ledger. although Pheonix was amazing too. What was Ralph Fiennes in?

  • @ilovekelly75 The Constant Gardener

  • Win the oscar and kiss three women...like a boss?

  • the best man is in the house

  • Why do they make presenters give such corny speeches? Some of them are good, but some are really lame!

  • Joaquin Phoenix should of won!!! Amazing, amazing actor. Incredible in 'Walk the Line'

  • @vineywiney Umm... have you SEEN Capote??

  • PSH is one of the 3 or 4 best film actors alive today withour a doubt. I think as far as pure charachter portrayal, the only one is his league may be Daniel Day lewis.

  • @marKism69 Totally! It's freaky how versatile this guy is!

  • @marKism69 haha... without a "Doubt".... get it?? ;) Also, I totally agree with you.

  • @marKism69

I would add Tom Hanks and Sean Penn on that list, considering Jack Nicholson and Dustin Hoffman are old now.

  • @Zulzon80 So because they're older you won't include them? Nicholson and Dustin Hoffman will go down in history as two of the finest actors this country ever produced. Age does not matter when compared to talent.

  • @vinceeverett2010 don't forget De Niro and Washington

  • @marKism69 I put Sean Penn in there as well. Sean Penn, Daniel Day-Lewis and Philip Seymour Hoffman are the three single greatest male actors alive today. If those three were in a film together my life would be complete.

  • Why is Jennifer Lopez in all of the Academy Awards cermonies???? It's not like she has worth perfomances..

  • My favourite part was when he kissed the Goddess. <3

  • Any excuse to kiss Meryl Streep.

  • "I dont wait for old people, I dont wait for old people!" xD... Ever since I saw Hoffman in Hard Eight I've been a fan of his... Such a great actor

  • If we could go back in time, which I know we can't, but if we could: to have given Heath Ledger the oscar that year, while he was here to enjoy the honor of it, and Philip Seymour Hoffman in 2008, when he was already nominated. I'm still so glad Hoffman won for "Capote", it was undoubtedly the best performance that year; a true stand-out. It just kills me to see Heath in the audience having just lost with no knowledge he would win only two years later but too late ;( There are no words.

  • @sraphael knowledge in heaven if you believe there is one like I do :(

  • My God this was such a STRONG year for best actor. In another year, any of these guys would have won the prize. Wow! The compettion was so STRONG! moreover, all the actors were 40 or younger exepct for Stratham. That is rare as well.

I think that Phillip Seymour Hoffman was the correct choice, but once again, any of them were worthy of the oscar. An excellent group of nominees!

    In remainng order:

    2. Joaquin Phoenix

    3. Heath Ledger

    4 Terrance Howard

    5. David Straham

  • Definatly should have been Joaquin Phoenix

  • they were alll SOOO GOOD. tough choice.

  • Heath Ledger or Joaquin Phoenix deserved this.

  • 1. Hoffman

    2. Ledger

    3. Phoenix

    Not seen Howard or Strathairn

  • Tough Pick. If only u could give pair oscars to philip and joaquin.

  • Heath ledger was great, but I people should not say that he deserved to win this year. This was Brokeback Mountain he acted in and not The Dark Knight. It was really between Hoffman and Phoenix. While Capote was well portrayed, Phoenix's Johnny Cash was unreal. He should have won.

  • @walterreallyy Have you watched Brokeback Mountain? Watch it again. Certainly TDK is the popular choice, but many consider Brokeback not just to be Heath's greatest performance, but one of the greatest of the decade. Regardless, the inspired debate just shows it was a very strong category that year, and that is a good thing. Judging great acting is like trying to determine which diamond is shinier, either way, you're comparing gems.

  • ow...joaquin's eyes... :) that melts me...

  • Looking up to see him in The ides of march

  • In all fairness he didn't have much competition besides David Strathairn...... and he's pretty unknown..... He was amazing in Capote

  • @bobjangle11 All fairness.....are you kidding? Everyone of those actors except maybe Terrance deserved a nomination and gave GREAT STRONG performances. To say he didn't have much competition is quite the ridiculous statement. I loved Philip in Capote and he very well deserved this Oscar, but Joaquin and Heath would have also been VERY deserving of it as well.

  • man why wont they shoe the clip it's more entertaining

  • love the van morrison shoutout!

  • Heath and Phillip were both deserving. I like heaths performance more

  • I'm sorry but Joaquin Phoenix deserved win

  • I had the pleasure of meeting Philip Seymour Hoffman while I was on vacation in

Denver in the bar of the Brown Palace Hotel in March 2008 and although I told him

an interesting story about taking a tour of the REAL Truman Capote's house many

years before and complimenting him on his great performance, I still told him I think

Heath Ledger deserved to win more for BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN. He laughed

out loud. Very talented actor though. That was a tough year for Best Actor.

  • Thankyou,

But Heath Ledger should win the oscar

  • The second woman he kissed is Catherine Keener, his costar in the film. Meryl Streep was indeed the third.

  • One of the best actors out there.

  • @crazyguy43 Indeed!

  • I love I love I love PSH! And Van Morrison. Soooo Good!

  • Such an actooooor!!!!!!!!!!

  • A well deserved win. Hoffman dived into his character liked he dived in the swimming pool in Synecdoche.

  • Philip Seymour Hoffman is such a great actor.

  • Hilary Swank always looks better the year she presents awards than the years she won. She is really hot here!!!

  • @jaltruff agreed

  • could someone confirm that the second woman Phillip kissed was Meryl Streep?

  • @tennis89insomniac yes, It was her. They are friends

  • @tennis89insomniac,

    No, he kissed Meryl third.

  • thank you Oscars for posting this vid :))
