One thing you should never do is shake your paint jars... non sense! when it comes to floquil paints they are enamel... shaking WILL NOT do anything to them. Its WATER BASED paints , polly S, tamiya , Vallejo etc that you do NOT want to shake.. reason is that is agitates the paint and causes air bubbles.. this results in poor finishes. You can store any and all paints in jars UPSIDE DOWN.. as long as lid is tight they will be good.
NOOOOOOOOO!!!! your using god awful FLOQUIL! I haven't used floquil in 17 years!!! WHY?? WHY??? you have polly S and Tamiya that are water based.. less (LESS) toxic and so much smoother on finish and SO much easier to clean... no bad!! BAD FLOQUIL NO!!
i recentl used enamel with 50% thinners on a model loco but the finish has very little sheen and is kind of rough to the touch. have i thinned my paint too much?
i use 20psi pressure and work about 6 inches from the work piece in nice even passes but not happy. i would expect a great sheen even a gloss with enamels.
i weathered my shay engin by lightly dry brushing a dried mud color. but i feel that something else should be done to it without using an airbrushing and without overdoing it.what else should i do to it?
@brutespiker297 Try using earth color pastel chalk.. (dry ones NOT the oil ones) scrap them with a knife onto a piece of paper and then (after you have put on DULLCOTE spray to model) and dried.. use a soft brush to put chalk to the model. Then seal it on with dullcote spray. Another way is to make a "wash" take the chalk power you just made and put it into a small dixie cup, add rubbing alcohol (not alot) stir it around to mix it and then apply that to the model.. alcohol dries away.
big your the master but i just gotta say that when the little bottle of thinner runs out dont throw it away, instead get a large can of thinner from home depot and just keep refilling it. after all is said and done you will be putting over 100 dollers back into your pocket. same with most often used collers like flat black and so on. ok now ill go back to learnning from you
do it outside ..its not only better ventalation but u can see the cars or locos ur painting a lot better...natural light has a big difference.. inside it looks like u have to much on but outside it looks like theres nothing on it. Outside u can adjust the color to its natural setting...
I don't have a spray booth inside so I have to do it outside when I use solvent based paints. For this series I did my painting in the garage under a 700 watt halogen light.
One thing you should never do is shake your paint jars. Paint then dries on the top and gets into your mix. Put a little saran wrap over the top before you close them up so paint doesn't stick in the threads of the lid or the lid itself and only STIR your paint, never shake.

Floquil are great paint to use, but clean up is terrible when you use Badger 350 airbrush.

Uhh, if you have different levels of paint - your straw method is flawed, isn't it?

I agree it's not 100% accurate. But it works good enough for me.
