  • I'm kind of here from switched at birth. I've always thought sign language is fascinating, and it would be really useful to know :) my friend and I are learning together.

  • Green seemed off but the rest are all how I learned at my ASL class and how deaf people in my town sign them. We have one of the best residential schools in the country so I know what I'm talking about when I say you people need to quit whining about how wrong it is. Didn't anyone ever tell you that there are regional signing accents?

  • I learned this in Spanish :D

  • This is so helpful! I was asked to a Dance by this guy who is def and all I know is the alphabet! and I can say 5 more things! yay! :)

  • I watched switched at birth yes & i thought sign language was very amazing :) i didn't come because of the show -.- like for real the only thing interesting about it is the fact that they sign it looks fun too learn & no im not deaf or have any family member that is but i really wanna learn sign language

  • Is this a joke???? Blue looks like she is signing speaking or presentation! and what the heck is she signing for green? Terrible, the 247 likes must be people who have no idea what ASL is about! Insane!

  • This is not a trustworthy video. Either it is extremely dated, or it is poorly made.

  • are the hand movements suppose to face towards us? does it matter?

  • jinky

  • Screw Switched at Birth...I'm hear to talk to the deaf girl on my swim team...

  • To many of those others who are saying this video is wrong...... or any of the sign language videos...

These videos are recommendations of the usage of the being taught words... That goes for any online website as such...

Also. What I came to find out. There is also local languages.I have deaf family members , they grew up in VA, learned sign language, moved to Maryland and noticed many differences.

Also, in each household there might be words a member makes up, or uses for easier understandings.

  • haha we should make a club! (just kidding) lol switched at birth is awesome! and so is asl

  • Mee too i love swiched at birth we ahould make a club

  • omg I'M here cuz of switched birth too!!!!

  • Lol I'm here because of switched at birth!! Lol

  • green and blue are wrong who taught u this stuff?

  • wat f ur lips rn`t red ? just saying

  • her thumb needs to be clo0ser to her finger that she s shaking for green

  • I am deaf I can read write an read lips but can't speak this woman is signing everything rite!!

  • thumbs up if you LOVE AND ARE HERE because of SWITCHED AT BIRTH!!!

  • You can find ASL dictionary online then, you can verify the words compared to what this woman is signing.

  • Thumbs up if you're not here because of Switched at Birth.

  • U did the red wrong it's with ur index finger and bending it up and down

  • @462kitkat you are right i was just about to say the same thing and red is also wrong bc my sister deaf and she dose red as a R and to her chin and hits her chin with the R

  • Green??? O_o

  • i dont know.... my lips arent even pink....

  • Comment removed

  • Thumbs up if youre hear cause of switched at birth :)

  • @syrupsweetie Holy crap, I thought I was the only one :D

  • AGH! I love you!

  • @462kitkat My apologies. I humble stand corrected. I know the middle finger is not used in the G, nor is she using the middle finger, however her fingers are not properly placed to form the letter G, nor exactly D but it does come closer to the incorrect letter. I retract my previous statement, for I am an amateur at best.

  • ok ive watch videos from that university n their red n orange sign is different from hers on about.com...i wish there wz some consistency...because signing a word in the wrong manner can be an insult to a deaf person..its like calling a jamiacan a hatian, a japanese a chinese....two different things...

  • @thaishamorris

No, not quite. Just like in English there are synonyms and homonyms. One sign may have several different meanings. Likewise one word may be signed several different ways.

  • @Devidedistand Exactly what I was saying.... There is local languages... therefore there might be MANY diffferent signs for one word. People that are not deaf dont seem to understand that. They think and assume everything is wrong

Not necessarily. People also make up signs for easier understandings in their households. I know this as well. My family does. When I learn on the internet, I also have to learn their signs and the local signs as well.

  • @PipsqueakDuhOrg You really cannot be this dense. DUH people make up "home signs" or signs that are used in their families, but this is a video that is claiming that she is teaching you ASL. This is not ASL!. Just because you have deaf family members doesn't make you an expert. And quite frankly I am shocked that a person with family members that are deaf is not enraged by the incorrectness of this video or any of their videos.

  • my bff is deaf so these r helping me!!!

  • i love these videos so much, they are really helping me out!

  • thank you learning A.S.L is fun

  • The letter G uses both the pointer and middle fingers. But the position of her hand is right(not wrong).

  • Comment removed

  • She is using the letter G. The letter D is middle finger tip to thumb tip hold while the first finger is pointing up and away from you at a slight angle. She clearly starts with her hand held horizontally and a tighter hold of her fingers.

  • are you using letter "D" for the color green? OMG!

  • The way she signed Yellow is the same way you sign silly. I kind of thought that you sign yellow with your hand about your waist area pointing your fist straight ahead wiggling a y and the same way for green except you actually use a G

  • those are not the right way to say green and red i know cuz i sign to my parents and brother all day long

  • i like this it help you talk to a deaf person

  • @liyah15x A deaf person would already know how to speak ALS, or they would go to a real teacher because it would be nessisary .... this is for regular hearning people who want to learn. Obviously ..:)

  • Is the sign for orange the same when you're talking about the fruit?

  • wow, shes good, i learnt all the colors so fast and its weird how, she has all the colors written in the orginal color, but orange and yellow are the same...

  • Just shake it lol

  • yellow...yellow....yellow....orange....(again) yellow! she sounds like a broken tape

  • @S123Sweet It's called repetition. She's repeating herself so it will stick in the heads of whoever is trying to learn.

  • Shame on this woman! I am very sorry for people eagerly trying to learn ASL. She is way off and WRONG on numerous signs.

  • it goes at a great pace for me and my friend because we are doing the 40 hour famine and we're going without talking and we're gona do sign language.

  • You can learn the correct green sign at ASLpro.com

  • Comment removed

  • If you tried to sign "green" this way... i can't think of ANY Deaf that would understand it!

It's not just a little off..it;s completely wrong.

  • @kjsand I totally agree. But then, this woman knows nothing about ASL. She's just copying signs from a book (and obviously copying them wrong). But still... people insist on watching her videos and think that she is doing a "wonderful job." Little do they realize that they are not learning ASL from watching her. I REALLY wish that YouTube would pull her videos because every single one has errors in it and is full of misinformation.

  • @BYUFanatic hey dude.. are you certain that this lady is teaching us the wrong thing? cos well, i am learning the sign language from her video.

and i noticed that she made a wrong letter "G" sign.

where can i get video to learn sign language then?

    any recommendation?

  • absolutely amazing! I am glad to be learning!

  • lol same here tht was a D

  • i love knowing sign language

  • she got me confused?:(

  • really squeezing an orange? or sucking a D

  • Some of these signs are totally different from our local signs here in Uganda but its good to learn a different way of signing

  • Do not exaggerate on the movements green is incorrect as well

  • @lavivi123 If you know how to do this.. Why are you watching? Just asking..

  • Comment removed

  • theres alot of complaining is she doing the signs right or not? please help i really need this

  • No, she is not doing it right, see BYUFanatic's channel for a video on colors which shows them correctly.

  • @Banerika My ASL teacher is deaf, and she does them exactly the same.

  • That's interesting. With his or her arm way out from the body like that? That's very unusual.

  • @TheBlackB0X I doubt your ASL teacher signs them exactly the same. To your untrained eye, you simply don't notice a difference. This woman makes several subtle and not-so-subtle errors.

  • @razzberrysocks15 No, she has some subtle and not-so-subtle errors. I don't recommend any of her videos at all. Way too many errors because she does not know ASL, she's just pretending that she does.

  • @BYUFanatic i have ASL videos. check out mine on my channel. hope u like them.

  • @madkittyjoey70 Hi! I checked out your videos. They're more like "a list of signs" videos rather than "ASL videos." The same problem exists - no grammatical lessons and giving the viewer the false impression that ASL is simply "English on the hands." Check out my "greetings and introductions" video for an example of how signs and grammar can be combined together into a single lesson.

  • This is ridiculous. 47 people like this video. All of them must be completely and utterly clueless, without a shred of knowledge of ASL. If they had even one class in ASL, they would likely consider this video crap.

  • Seh's doing this wrong.

  • I love the way she said green.

  • Yeah, she got green WRONG!

  • why oh why is there always some joker whos gotta be a hater

if you dont like whats happening go else where to find your free lessons

other wise be cool and shut up cheers

  • okaayyyy if you guys think she is doing it wrong do your own videoss and see what people think about you and i think she knows what shes doing me and my friend have been up for two hours learning her signing and we have learned 116 words from her so i think she knowss

  • YOU SIGN GREEN WRONG! YOU FAILED!

  • She signed red correctly. I just looked it up in my sign language book. We need to remember there are several different version of signing. Yes she singed green differntly, but i do remember that green has a couple ways of signing. It all depends on who you talk and learn from. The main point is to learn sign language so you are able to pick up words that the other person is signing even if they are signing a little differntly. Some sings are the same; others have differnt signings

  • @BoRnToBeWiLDforGoD, Nope, this is not a regional variation. She is just plain doing it wrong.

  • uhhh isnt green wrong...

  • @kassiakassia ya and red!!

  • people learn in all different ways but yes she was wrong in some of her videos though it differs from person to person everyone does it differently.

  • is she deff?

  • yes she's deaf and you are blind!! what a fag dick

  • Wow... she definately did green wrong.......... she signed a "d" instead of a "g"

  • Yep her thumb was in the wrong position.

  • yeah, she def was, LOL

  • you guys need to stfu!

    people do it diffrent ways.

  • iihtt is not wrong my cusin is sittn right here and tell me its right some people do different ways that all different wayz for signing

  • omfg. really. come on i barely know sign langueage and i already know this is wrong. my 2 year old knows this is wrong. im not een kidding. he told me it was wrong. i was laughing so hard.

he knows sign language he wasnt just guessing. what does that tell you about her?...

  • sign launguage differs in different places just because the books say one thing sometimes deafs do another

  • she did red and green wrong...

this needs to be taken down

  • Well, no way to sign "blonde" if "yellow" made so far from head. "Blue" looks like "hi" with 'B' hand. Huh? Orange: squeeze juice into mouth, not onto chin! "Red" is way too long. Are we indicating the redness of the lips or the neck? If she signed "pink" like that she'd end pointing at her cleavage :O My friends would immediately correct her, as they do me, if she signed that way. Like saying "blark" to hearing. "Green" initialized with 'g', not '1'! ExpertVillage, pls get a real signer!

  • i learned the way she did orange was for fruit and it was different for orange the color.

    DDD: im so confused now.

can someone point me towards videos or someplace i can learn that is correct?

  • Yes, try BYUFanatic, he is Deaf and a qualified ASL teacher.

  • This video is wrong (Like many of her others).

  • Why do I keep commenting on her? I see so many views and I worry that she is misleading thousands of people into mistakes.

  • OH LORD.

    Can I get a witness?

  • haha yeah i was gunna say she doesnt do her G right...because she made a D.

i know because my boyfriend is deaf...lol i was just watching bc i try to learn more...but yeah thats not how u make a G....

  • ok does that mean that her alphabet ones r wrong too? so the "G" she made was actually a "D"

wow that makes this sooo hard to learn lol!

  • Yes, she is all wrong. See BYUFanatic on YouTube for colors, numbers, letters, signs for weather, and a whole bunch of other stuff. He is Deaf, an ASL teacher, and most importantly of all, he is accurate. He slows down his videos to help people who are learning, as well, and is in the process of building an ASL site for people who want to learn ASL online.

  • Yeah, her G was a D in green...

  • this was interesting. I know my alphabet and numbers, but I'm not learning the language, so at least I'll have a little heads up as class progresses.

  • Why don't ya drop ur gear dear!!

  • thought so

    :P

    thanks x

  • is this BSL ?

idont think it is is it?

    :s

  • helpful

i work with children during my course at college n want 2 learn stuff like colours and shapes when communicating

  • Stop making these videos if you cant state your origin of text and improve on your samantics... this is critical. otherwise your teaching people to be stupid in the Deaf World.

  • is this asl or something else

  • sign language is fun!

  • @nycblocparti i agree!

  • You only use ONE finger for the letter G and TWO for the letter H. So, she did do it right.

  • You only use ONE finger for the letter G and TWO for the letter H. So, she was right.

  • thats not how you make a G, she only used 1 finger to make a G u need 2!

  • Yeah her G looked like a D to me.

  • @KASIproductions on the paper or the sign?

  • @KASIproductions agreed. her thumb was in the wrong place. good, lol! i thought i had been doing it wrong. guess it was the other way around :)

  • @KASIproductions I agree. The first time I saw her signing G, I thought, "what on earth is she trying to sign?"

  • thank you i alwayz wanted 2 learn sign language its so interesting

  • PLEASE make more!!! I am finding singing very easy to learn from these specific videos!

  • Is this american, canadian or british signing? I am seein a few differences from what I was taught.

  • Thank you so much. All the clips are amazing.

  • amazing
