  • Good thing it has subtitle on it.

  • ele éra apenas a pontinha de um iceberg que hoje ainda está representado de diversas formas de atuação talvez mais passiva como são os casos dos senhores pastores do dinheiro, politicos da roubalheiras ,etc..

  • You guys read so slow

  • Ohjeeah, exactly like it was with our article to JACS! :D

  • I just love this video. It does seem that the third reviewer is always an ass.

  • I sympathize with THIS Hitler (not the real one).

Not in science, but in math: I've published in math successfully. My current paper under review came back with mixed reviews. But, the reviewers don't even criticize the half of my paper that *I* don't like. They criticize the GOOD part. They want me to waste time padding it out with exposition on other mathematicians' paper which are unnecessary for my theorem. Yes, related, but not necessary.

  • Which movie did you use for the video?

  • For us, it was Reviewer #2; #1 and #3 were quite positive.

  • @skyebochter

    Der Untergang (a.k.a Downfall, 2004)

worth seeing, very good performances as you can see

  • the speed is right, you only need to learn to read properly, or if englis is not your primary language just train harder and dont bitch about speed I found it to be perfect though spanish is my primary language.

  • Subtitles FAIL

  • Sabat sholom dear Hitler.

  • Imagine having Hitler as your research advisor... :D

  • this is great. I laugh everytime i see it

it is always reviewer number 3

  • I could read everything in time, slow minded much guys?

  • So these "Downfall" parodies are way too cliched and I usually just skip over them, but this one is definitely imaginative and kudos are well deserved.

  • it's not correctly translated, that's what makes it so funny for people that can understand German. Reading is difficult, a bit to fast. Had to watch it twice with the sound off the last time.

  • This is not an accurate, or even a partly correct translation. It's totally off the mark; it doesn't even come nearly close to what he is saying.

  • @jezmuff

Did you miss that was the point? Its a joke about the scientific review process. Its NOT supposed to be a translation you silly man.

  • Their IMPACT FACTOR SUX! LOL @ 2:46

I wonder what is this scientist publishing..... lol

  • Comment removed

  • brillant satire!!!! fuck reviewers they not done the experiments, is easy speak

  • ..."instead of sending it to some hack who pawned it off on their 1st year postdoc to review"

    MAGNIFICENT!!!!!!!!!!!

  • LOL I was just having this same conversation with my supervisor and the new post doc in our lab yesterday.

  • 63 Creationists watched this

  • I wonder what the original "hitler" says :)

  • @tkalfaoglu He's told Allied forces are winning and Steiner couldn't attack. When he's screaming at the officers, he's ranting about Steiner disobeying an order. He says the military has been deceiving him, sabotaging him, and the generals aren't loyal (cowards, traitors, scum, etc)...he should have eliminated officers like Stalin. He says without military training, he conquered Europe, but they're incompetent. The generals will pay for their betrayal. Then he starts accepting the nazis lost.

  • just make sure you have science friends in at least a european country and 1 other country. and request that they review your masterpiece.

  • This video is considered for publication after some major modifications:

    1) The text should stay longer.

    2) Some additional experiments (i.e. an according audio composition) would be very helpful. In this case the text issue can be disregarded.

    3) The figures should be supported in a higher resolution ;-)

    Kind regards,

    Reviewer #3

  • @heidafitz Upon further consideration, this video is not geared towards a demographic that requires more than a few seconds to read short sentences: Request denied. Requesting party is demoted to 4th grade assisted reading class.

  • Brilliant, so feckin' true!

  • See Nicholas Lewis and Matt Ridley's recent article in The Spectator "breaking the Ice" on new developments in Climategate. Exactly this scenario is played out

  • Or i could write it up for scientific American

    hahaha

  • This is not funny if you understand German.

  • @mahlstadt Yeah, thats understandable. Just play a japanese video over it, same effect.

  • That's why I'm a theorist. More experiments my ass! LOL!

  • The 62 people who thumbed it down are Reviewer #3's.

  • Good one. I have frequently faced with the "3rd" reviewer trauma. :D

I was wondering though what is the name of the original movie over which they have dubbed it?

  • @justfortp2 its "Downfall" ("Der Untergang") from 2004, see youtube video 4bmkUlXp5sk

  • 61 people work for "Scientific American"

  • 980 people like this video, while 61 were reviewers taking a break after requesting additional functional studies.

  • Awesume! I am right in the middle of addressing reviewer #3 and found this!! This is so funny, unless you have published a paper you will not have any idea. It is not about Hitler, it is about the subtitles! What is subtitled is what is so funny!! Great job... hell the portrail could be of anyone, just need someone ranting!

  • Amazing how nothing has changed since the last century! PIs will always be PIs, whatever the field, whatever the times...

  • Reviewer 3 is Fegelein !!!

  • Great piece however the text doesn't stay long enough to read without pausing. I suggest you do a few more experiments to determine the optimal length of time the text stays up. Following that work, resubmit to YouTube.

  • @TRBrownn Is English your second language?

  • @TRBrownn - either that or you should learn how to read faster. i had no problem keeping up at all

  • @nialljamesbuckley You're a really fast reader! I too had to pause to keep up.

  • @TRBrownn SO TRUE! At least for me. I had to pause to keep up.

  • @TRBrownn read faster

  • @TRBrownn I was able to read everything no problem.

  • It's ALWAYS reviewer #3.

  • 60 people work in Reviewer #3's legacy-funded lab.

  • Reviewer #3 cements his status as a hero.

  • hitler was a jew

  • Great idea, but it could be so much better...

  • My name is Mike from LA Although there busizz4me.info

  • Isn't funny if you know how to speak german.

  • @conoba Lol, I was just thinking that. It's difficult to tune it out as "white noise" or whatever once you know the language :P

  • like seeing that total edition with this kind of movie at a!v!a!t!z.net remove !

  • "Or I could write it up for Scientific American."

    Noooooooooooooooo!!!

  • Brilliant!

  • cool

I like how this video can be used for so many different topics ^_^

  • Brilliant! Such a sad ending though....

  • I laughed hysterically. Then I stopped laughing when I realized that what they were probably saying in German caused the deaths of millions of people.

But yes, great satire, no denying that.

  • What is the actual movie this scene if from?

  • @gstullo "Der Untergang"

  • @gstullo Downfall.

  • PERFECT! Thank you.... :)

  • Haha, some first year post-doc.

  • Oh, shit, the NIH bomb. No he did'uhn't!

  • Hitler finds out carbon trading is a scam. In 2020 after signing a partnership with Environmental Defense Fund, Shell and Goldman Sachs to implement forest carbon markets to reduce emissions, the Führer received a report that concluded REDD projects in PNG are a scam: do not reduce emissions, moving pollution somewhere else. As a results forest carbon markets collapsed. Eva Brown was convinced by Ecosecurities to put all savings of Hitler and Germany in forward contracts of carbon credits.

  • Deeply disagreed MrsCherrycream! I am spanish and I cannot even feel sorry for what Franco did (also killing a lot of people though admitedly not as many as Hitler, but who cares of that diff? human lifes are invaluable!) or what Mussolini did or what Hiroito did or what Hitler did, ... I would never regard spanish, italians, japanese or german people being guilty of something that happened 70 years ago.

In the meantime, I hope that we can start laughing at this as much as so many other things

  • what many people didnt know that hitler was also an established actor

    YAX ATTACK!

  • Comment removed

  • I admit it, I laughed heartily.

This scene represents actually doomsday for the third German Reich and this scene is a climax of absurdity and hopelessness.

The words that are spoken are well written in the faces of all of the actors. The subtitles added put the absurdity to extremes, but in essence we cannot deny that we might feel just as angry and shocked when faced with a negative review in the first moment, even though we should be grateful for peer review put aside all its flaws.

  • Finally one advantage in not speak german...all the humor would be lost if the original sound was understood

  • Hey, what do you have against Scientific American? I love that journal! :D

  • @AntiCitizenX -- Among professional scientists, the Scientific American is regarded as a comic book.

  • This is a brilliant satire!

I pity people who can't appreciate this form of humor. Fortunately the combination of the First Amendment, backups and PTP file sharing will prevent people like Tartu100 and other would-be Hitlers from banning/burning ideas they don't like.

Satire protects us from institutions and individuals who take themselves too seriously - They become a danger to themselves and others.

I eagerly look forward to reading your next submission, Tartu100.

    Sincerely

    Reviewer #3

  • cue the sad, gypsy violins for Tartu100,

get a real job, you douche!

  • To Tartu100

This scene have been "mutilated" numerous times, so nobody is taking it down.

The morality of it is quite acceptable to me - if one kills millions of people, he will be driven to insanity and suicide, and people will laugh at his suffering for all eternity.

  • @Tartu100 Simple. Do not listen to the German text at the same time.

  • Oo, i cannot laugh about these );

  • Too Funny!!!! This is happening to me right now!!! LOL!!! I needed such a good laugh!!!!

  • what is N.I.H???

  • national institute of health....

  • National Institutes of Health. they can (among other things) found your research if you write them a grant proposal (don't hold your breath)

  • I've seen a lot of these spoofs... this is the best one ever!

  • Dead on!

  • lol

  • Funny, but who wants to be Hitler...I'd rather get rejected.

  • hylarious, ehehe....LOL

  • ..."or we could write it up for scientific American"...that is the best line!!!

  • This is just too awesome for words. I hate reviewer #3!!!

  • Too funny...fellow academic sent me this link after I received a "Revise and Resubmit" with 2 reviewers recommending "Accept" and a 3rd reviewer recommending substantial revisions....I'm still laughing!!!

  • Awesome--especially the contrast with the German. That makes it brilliant.

  • Yeah, why are some reviewers worse than American Idol judges?

  • Hey, screw #3 - it's the editors that get me all the time agreeing with the worst reviewer... no balls indeed!

  • so true

  • me parto de risa con esto, sobre todo cuando comienza a gritar "fucking reviewer#!!"

  • 1st year postdoc? How about first year grad student who doesn't speak any English, and quits after a month.

  • This is hilarious!! I am laughing alone in my room at 4AM while working on the Reviewer #3 comments !!...

On the serious side...the vid and the comments show how hollow the peer review thing has become. It's time to just abandon it perhaps...it has its origins in the past elitist intellectual culture..now everyone has a website to "publish" his stuff...

Eeven Amazon review system works better than the peer review nowadays mainly since any JUNK can be published SOMEWHERE!

  • which is why ppl add weight to the reputation of the publication when they assess weather it is worth citing as a source

  • LOL

  • es bleiben im rrraum

  • Wow. I didn't know somebody leaked a VIDEO from the East Anglia University Climate Research Unit, as well. This is some pretty damning evidence. :o

  • Ich bin Reviewer #3!!

  • Great! ... Close to reality! He,he

  • ¡Genial!

  • indusieumgresium, please make one specifically for the people who review grants and come up with shit load of comments completely irrelevant to the application. These days, many grant reviewers don't even read them. They just look at the name of the applicant and try to reject/fund based on the name.

  • that...was...sooo....realistic!! hahah.

    awsome! thanks

  • LOL :)

  • You have suffered, just like me .. I know it -- thank you!

  • haha....brilliant.... can't believe how real this is

  • SImply Brilliant

  • I am correcting my manuscript and makes this boring job me bit fun!

  • Absolutely delightful!

  • Absolutely brilliant!!! We ALL know the feeling!

  • It is reflecting a situation in biosci.

  • Nano Letters vs the third Reich!

  • lol.

Don't know I should laugh or cry......

  • This is great!!!! I agree with SuperPsyentist. Someone should make a similar video about IRB.

  • Like the comment "I could allways send it out to an open acces journal". It is however a ripoff of the old bmw joke that came out just after the film.

  • To whom?

  • PRICELESS!!!

  • When DID Scientific American become gullible anyway ?

  • after watching this I went and watched the movie, pretty good actually.

  • This reminds me of our IRB!!!

  • Just GREAT!

  • The person who wrote the plot is a fucking genius he doesn't deserve to work in science.

  • Der Untergang, you idiot

  • Haha. This actually makes me feel a little better.

  • Always the 3rdx Fucking reviewer.... LOL... My humble salutations...

    Jai Gorkhaland

  • gosh, what movie is this from?

  • The Downfall. In German "Der Untergang". Released around 3 years ago.

  • Perfect, been there, rejected

  • 555+ It's almost true!

  • Its always the third bloody reviewer!!!!!

  • lol, i love these hitler videos. DAS this and DAS that.

  • Freakin' awesome. Wow, next time I review a paper, I'll have to remember this. HAHAHAHA

  • I've had luck with:

"I would like to thank reviewer 3 for their novel and courageous comments.

    Yours sincerely ...."

  • Been there done that, both sides of the story. Really funny though.

  • Okay - Hitler learns he has AIDS

Hitler is mad at Tiger Woods

Hitler is hoaxed by balloon boy

    Hitler gets rejected by universities

    Any more?

  • I have been a third reviewer before.. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA sorry guys!

  • Haha...me too...but they deserve it.

  • Comment removed

  • Amusing and all too true. You can really get pissed off with the peer review process.

  • Hey, what's up with the subtitle timing?? I watched this earlier and could read it fine. Now it goes so fast I can't read it, even though I know what text is coming. ??

  • Too much ETOH?

  • that's entirely possible :-)

  • Original Bot? Eyow.

Es una chiste sobre los scientificos que necesita prensar o morir. Siempre hay una revistador que no va. En este caso, el revistador numero 3.

Hitler completa con una frase muy chistosa. Posiblemente podemos sumitir a la revista Scientific American.

  • The whole thing is hilarious, but it's the last line that had me ROFL.

  • Join the

"It's always the *&@*&^ 3rd reviewer" Group on Facebook in honor of this video and post your favorite review quotes

  • que es esta mierda que alguien explique

  • whoever wrote this was DEFINITELY involved in science! it was so on point that it was a bit unnerving. loved the Scientific American comment, too.

  • Comment removed

  • Damn you, third reviewer! My writing is lucid, the topic is important, and the conclusions are valid, but you don't think that my research is "up to the standards of a top tier journal such as this one"??? Bite my academic arse...I feel much better now, thanks for letting me vent.

  • it's only funny 'cos it's true.

  • who made this?

  • I laughed out loud watching this video.

  • brilliant! and unfortunately, so on the money.

  • First thing first, I think if you last name has 2/3 of consonante against 1/3 of vowel, ist´s easier to be accepted even in the British Medical Journal ;-), tha´s the real impact factor for people who use to write and research in this part of the world ( I mean Argentina) ;-) Have a nice day. I love this video.

  • too many consonants is a strike against your too.

  • @forrestun Don't forget the publishers who have to receive said work by said niche of PhD students! Glad I don't work in journals, academic yes, but journal 'nine'!

  • Hilarious, lovin it!

  • I can't believe how true this is of my current situation. Three reviewers, 1 and 2 are manageable, 3 is a few pages of text asking me to rewrite the entire article - thankfully they are not asking for another experiment - the one I'm reporting took six months to perform!

  • oh mein gott ....der professor ist goin crazyen here!!

  • Hail hail to Bruno Ganz in this great movie called The Fall

  • Awesome! Hilarious and oh-so-true... but hey, think of the 2 positive reviews! :-P
