Well if Pluto is a planet then hundreds of others rocky planetoids, asteroids and others deserve to be called planets too.

Pluto is just one of many of those dwarf planets in the Kuiper Belt. If you include Pluto you must include all those others too, some of which actually are larger than Pluto.

Pluto is basically a repeat of what happened to Ceres back in the 19th century. An object discovered between the orbits of Jupiter and Mars was once considered a planet until other objects were also found orbiting similar paths. Granted, Ceres was promoted from an asteroid to a dwarf planet recently, but I can still see the connections with Pluto and the Kuiper Belt Objects.

@lester5192 Luckly N.A.S.A did manage (i don't know how) to photograph what appears to be Pluto its a planet but hazy but enough to be comfirmed by those involved in NASA to be Pluto.( i have a picture of it..but its on facebook lol) its black (probably land mass of some sort) with yellow (i think its methene frozen) on it. pretty funky to say the least. but I LOVE MY PLUTO! :-)

they did not demote it just because of its size and its orbit, they demoted it because they had found hundreds of other objects just like it in the kuiper belt so they did not want to have to include all of those other objects as planets because we would then have too many, so they came up with rules that an object must follow to have a planetary status which is:

1.Must must be round

2.Cannot be a moon

3.Must have cleared most of the area around its orbit

i believe that is pretty fair

i myself believe pluto to still be a planet. because try as the IAU may, pluto just will not just be going away. it still is an interesting world worthy of exploration. and so relax all, new horizons is on its way. by july 2015 we will get our 1st close ups of this little mystery at the very edge of our solar system. and i think we are all in for some big surprises once we get there. god bless the United States of America space programs.
