Even so, why are you so certain it's something that would have to take place slowly? Why assume it would not be possible? Many natural events take place exceptionally fast. For example, look how quickly particles from a CME travel to Earth from the sun, why assume magnetic poles only shift slowly? No one wants it to happen, but it is possible. (Unfortunately).
