Jeff Beck w/ Simon Philips on drums, Fernando Saunders on bass, Tony Hymas on keys, almost 30 years later and this still is mind blowing. The way Beck and Philips feed off each others energy is awesome!!
I can't thank you enough for posting this!!!!!!! I would LOVE to be able to buy a DVD of this performance! Is one available?
I can recall viewing this performance in a friend's basement in 1984, and being utterly astounded at the level of Jeff Beck's musicianship, as well as that of his backing band. I was especially impressed with the complexity and raw power of Simon Phillips drumming, and continue to be. :)
Jeff is the best - tough to pick between Jeff & Jimi. Paul McCartney said it well in '68: Jeff did everything a couple years ago Jimi is doing now. Jimi played with much more drama, however - always an audience pleaser.
I saw jeff in 1980,Starcycle tour.He is truly captavating! Nobody can touch him.Sometimes I dont know whats happenin up there. Is anybody listening? Please hear him,Jeff Beck is God!!!!!!!!!!!
The Man Has No Equal! Hes a god among the greats themselves, Even many of the most famous guitarists of today, found there inspirations in the Music Of The Legendary Jeff Beck;
damn, I remember when I first listened to "there and back," beck totally opened my eyes to what you could do with a guitar - one of the absolute albums any guitar fan should own, a testament to the brilliance of Beck - I played 'star cycle' to friends of mine who never heard of Jeff Beck, and just watched their jaws hit the floor, classic!!
Im open to anything I like. Its just that in music there are certain artists who are so far beyond all others. On electric guitar, thats Jeff Beck for sure.
Why would I want to hear anyone do a cover of a Jeff beck tune? Only person who might interest me in that regard is Jimi Hendrix and he's been dead for 40 years. For me, there's Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, John McLaughlin, Frank Zappa, Bill Frisell and then there's everybody else. No offense to Steve Lukather (he's awesome), but there's a difference between a great "player," and being a great artist. Beck's in a class of his own.
Sorry Sr. it's a suggest only because the Luke cover is also very good to me, I see you like an absolutist and purist while I am open to different kinds an proposals. Happen the same about the Beck tune "Cause we ended as lovers" and the cover of Lee Ritenour-Luke.
But I am in accordance with you, Beck is the Lord.

i taught feckin jeff feckin beck how to play the gee tar. he is my son. I luv him my son. my name is Wrecked Beck. Google me and see what I done told yee.
Jan Hammer. It's like he knows, somehow, if he doesn't step up to the plate then 'Rockit' by Herbie Hancock will go down in history as the most eighties thing ever. And boy, does he rise to the challenge...
I was at the L.A. show at the Forum. Is this from L.A.? were there any other benefits performed? This show was monumental! Beck, Clapton, and Page!!! Wow! Then all of the artists performing" With A Little Help From My Friends" meaning so much more with Ronnie Lane being afflicted with M.S. and the reason the benefit concert was organised. Then a great rendition of Layla. Great memories!!
This song is Dank! The drummer is so nasty, and Beck- cmon brah- Another cool song like this of his is called "space boogie" off of same album, same drummer and band check it. I always give props to the master at work.
Thanks for posting but the 80'album'version were far far far beyond, the work realized on the sound was crucial, the live version is accordingly disappointing.
I saw him live in 1990, with Bozzio and Hymas, sort of a mess.
Hmmmm @ the MSG shows in NY Jan Hammer was on keyboards not Tony Hymas.

Now the goddamn camera changes are every .1310370 second.

If you have info to that effect you should go and fix his Wikipedia page so it doesn't continue misleading the poor dumb likes of myself... :)
Did I mention I love the shit out of this, BTW?

Correct. It's Tony Hymas.

Simon Phillips on the drums. At 9:52 how does he do a one handed drum roll?
pismo10 4 years ago
If you look closely Phillips does that roll with his genitalia. This requires care and please don't copy this at home.
stargate669 4 years ago
he's using two hands silly, it's just the video can't keep up with the speed of his hands
lrizzo2001 4 years ago
That little scale he plays between songs to see if he is in tune is cool.
