@beccagali93 the videos are all fake. I met some of the Marble Hornets today at a panel at Kamicon, including "Alex", "Jay", and "Tim". They were selling their DVDs and answering questions, as well as advertising for season 3, in which they said a lot of questions will be answered. They even explained that the reason behind "Masky" is to have a visible, imminent physical threat outside of Slenderman.
These videos are terrifying and the concept is very well done but they are, indeed, fake.

Alex dosnt seem to know about the youtube accounts or else he would have sooner realized J was stalking him.

Whatever this is Tim is really deep into it, this probably means that he is in some sort of close relation to slenderman. Wether it be unavoidable encounters or that he is carrying out his will I dont know, its difficult to say what Tims initial motivation for this is. It might be that he is trying to hide from slenderman and instead give J the information he knows so that he can figure it out.

The way the story starts off, it gives the hint that Alex may have gotten himself into something shady even before the Marble Hornets thing started. Maybe Alex was just his most recent victim? Especially after hearing the story of the people strung up in the forest, it hints of slender man's origins. This was probably going on long before he came along.
@PachucoDesigns It almost gave the origins of Slenderman a Freddy Kruger feeling in my opinion. Theres a hole in the "Alex might have gotten into shady things before Marble Hornets" theory, and that's in one of the earlier entries it's his first encounter with Slenderman, he says about how he was with his dog, and slendy was just standing by a light pole and his dog flipped out. If he had known about slenderman, then I would think that he wouldn't have gone back afterwards.

It gives it a sense of mystery, given that we have absolutely no idea by what metric slenderman chooses a victim. It conceals a motive, if there is one. I've only been watching the series for a few days, loving it may I add, and I just wanted to comment on how good of a job you guys have done with it.

0:24 it's clearly the lighthouse from the ring. This whole marble hornets thing is just the prequel to the ring where it shows the events leading up to the creatioon of the video! But they fucked up big time making the ring video, when they were making it they forgot to say "pay us 20 dollars, or you will die in.." before "7 days" so the moneymaking scheme ended up in murders. oh dear.

I think totheark is the person running this whole show - Slendy. And that would also mean the reason he let Tim get his leg smashed is because Tim was lying to Slendy. Which might mean my theory has something more to it.

@TheRelicRetard I absolutely agree. I thought the picture was Jay when I first saw it, but when watching it closer you can tell it's Tim. Whether or not Masky and totheark are the same person is debatable, but Tim is DEFINITELY Masky/one of the Maskies. THEY HAVE THE SAME EPIC SIDE BURNS, COME ON.
Honestly my personal revelation that Tim was Masky made me appreciate both characters more.
One of my friends thinks that Masky is Jay and I just.. don't understand...
