This is the sixth cover of this song I've listened to and I love it! But I also loved all the others. This is just a well-structured, classic song that can be played by many different musicians. I would love to see what a blues band could do with this. Oh well, on to Boxcar Willie's version. Peace.
The most bluesy version of this I know of is by Taj Mahal. Look it up if it wasn't in the six covers you have already heard. Taj is a favorite of mine, and think his talent is overlooked. It may be because he falls in an odd place between blues, folk and Caribbean music. Enjoy. Also does a great live show (or did, it has been several years since I saw him. He is getting up there in age.)
i love this song too. met my hubby in buffalo ny in 1982 when he almost ran me off the road in a "whiteout" tearassing in his orange "Pumpkin" along the Thruway. At the right place at the right time. Just celebrated 26 yrs of wedded bliss.
I dont drive a rig, but by the fuck i love this tune... i know that when i travel the roads that this is an automatic listener (along with all earles tunes) and bigonrs, i can imagine this song realtes 100% to yer experience driving rig... keep on trucking buddy
Not the original version, but still a great tune by good old Steve Earle. Two thumbs up!
