All the graphics for mkt look the same to me and at least it gives a combo option in the n64 version(idk if the other versions have this) which makes it easier to pull off combos evn easier than the ps1 pc or sega Saturn version could or at least that's what my friend told me go khameleon for dlc in mk9
The ps1 had freakishly long loading times for almost everything like Shang tsungs morphs atleast the n64 didn't have any loading screens(other than the fights)
Yeah motaro and shao Kahn was playable in the n64 version but not goro or kintaro but who cares at least my favorite character of the entire series khameleon
I'm surprised the N64 version was so shitty, Since it was at the time superior in most ways over the 32 bit saturn and ps1 being 64 bit and no load times.
The PS1 version of MK Trilogy had better control ,but the sound was more clear in the Sega Saturn version.Either versions ere great though and the most complete 2D MK games we're ever likely to see.
When I saw the Nintendo Gamecube's controllers, I was happy to see that X and Y buttons were included, but still no Select button like N64 if I recall [which Nintendo and Super Nintendo controllers had].
The finishers in MK3 [and all its upgraded or extended versions as I like to call them] were good, but [in my opinion] mediocre compared to MK1 and MKII.
The best finishers are in MKII, MK1 [SNES included] has the second best fatalities.
And ohhhh Shao Kahn and Motaro are not selectable as you need to go to the following stages to play motaro the wasteland and the balcony and wen you are in those stages you must hold back and press HK and LK for shao kahn you must be in the pit 3 stage or Khans cave and hold down and press HP and LP before the match starts and goro and kintaro are not in the game
how can you not like the NIN64 ver???? NO LOADING! Shan Sung no loading transformations! The best if you JUST HATE LOADING TIMES!!! Its my fav port. The controller isn't that bad just take getten used to. Just use the digital pad. But I do like all forms of MK! GREAT reviews!!!!
What I think is strange BARAKA FATALITY IN TRILOGY HAS NO BLOOD ... N64 there is blood ... and with a special code you can get more blood in n64 version ... however ps1 version is much much better!
Thanx for uploading the videos, you're really did a great job!!
Concerning MK Trilogy: you forgot the biggest difference: The PSone and Saturn versions had two Sub-Zeroes (masked and unmasked) who had their separate moves, but the N64 version had one, but with the moves of both.
Yeah, it's all personal preference. I played the N64 version a bit more after this video and it's not too bad. Jumping from the bigger buttons to the little buttons was the problem for me. You do get more use to it after a while but I play far better on the other ports with their controllers. It's all what your use to really.
cool videos. maybe you could continue the mortal kombat reviews with the 4th game through Armageddon. currently, the only way to get arcade accurate of Mortal Kombat 2 & 3 & Ultimate MK 3 are either midway arcade treasures 2 OR the next gen consoles live arcade.
I would like to make a correction about this video. One of the Super Nintendo version of MK3 also has the incorrect tracks in the video. We realized this after the video was up for a while. PyscheEclipsePro actually commented on this too. This error is addressed in the DVD version of this video that is soon to be released.
Never played MK3 or Ultimate MK3 Genesis. Only played MK3 on Arcade [PS2's Midway Arcade Treasures 2], PlayStation and Super Nintendo. Ultimate MK3 on Arcade [PS2's MK Armageddon collectors version] and Super Nintendo. Only played MK Trilogy on PlayStation.
One problem with the PS1 Greatest Hits version of Trilogy is that the game would lock up if you beat it. The N64 version had flaws, but it was a faster game with no load times. Plus since they only had one Sub-Zero, they gave him all the powers of both his masked & unmasked version... it was bad-ass imo. Why not do one more of these for MK4?
I played MK 1 and 2 a little bit as a kid along with SF2 and KI. I never really preferred any game back then, I was just happy to play. I got Mk3 once for Christmas and a kid I knew had one too, he hated the game so much for it's combo system that he shattered the cart to pieces. I don't know what happened to mine I remember doing something similar but I never destroyed it, I just can't find it in my SNES storage bin. Anyway great feature on all the games.
Very brilliant retrospective here dude. Tbh ivenever really given the series a chance. I just use to stick with SF2 more or less until killer instinct came along, but I did have MK2 on the SNES which I loved, MK trilogy which obviously sucked and MK deadly alliance on the gamecube which was okay.
I guess its personal taste, same with chrono trigger which ive never really taken interest into looking at. But no matter what you guys always make these features interesting!
When I played this on my ps2 it had issues and was not worth the hassle to play it.

The psx version of mkt is full of bugs so it makes it inferior to the saturn version. And why no game boy or amiga ports? Besides that - good work.

I played MK Trilogy on an N64 Emulator [using an X Box 360 controller].
The controls are just horrible [if I recall, you use the yellow arrow keys for kicks and punches].
I'm just not use to it.
SFX wise and graphic wise, PS is awesome. Despite that if you play MK Trilogy on PS2, the game freezes up upon completion.
Nicksolo85 2 years ago
The N64 controller was just garbage. Nintendo has never gone back to that horrendous format.

Never owned an N64 but I knew someone who did.
I noticed no X and Y buttons.
